The Social Security monies need to be removed from the ‘General Fund’ so Congress cannot get their greedy hands on it. No more ‘borrowing‘ from it. Also there are way too many people on SS that never paid a dime into it. Lots of fraud, clean up the fraud would go a long way to shoring up SS.
How about cutting some other money sucking social services like welfare where you have generations of families milking the system?
If the swamp would stop stealing the SS money, and throwing it out to illegals, there would be plenty. Not much chance of that though seeing how both parties are deep in the swamp.
All I ask is that I’m treated rightly, and that my payments don’t get reduced considering that both me and the companies that I worked at for many years paid into the system as required with the agreement that I would be getting specific amounts when I started to collect Social Security. Quit giving free money to illegal aliens.
I have said over and over, there had better not be a single person on welfare before they cut anything from SS. Stop giving SS to illegals would be a good start.
The only reform Congress should undertake is to repay the money it has stolen from the American Taxpayers. That should NEVER have happened in the first place.

Stop paying SS to people who haven’t paid into the system
With RINO establishment leaders like Thune, nothing will happen. The solution really isn’t that difficult. The billions that have been spent on fraudulent welfare benefits could and should be re-directed to funding Social Security. Then, place all of Social Security’s assets into a segregated trust that can be used only to pay for benefits. This is what Congress requires of private pensions. But more importantly, invest those funds in vehicles other than treasury bills. Most of a pension funds assets come from investment gain – not from participant contributions.
If Congress would act and claw back all of the money that was stolen by waste, fraud and abuse (which has been exposed in Minnesota, California and Ohio, and that is just the tip of the iceberg) that would go a long way to shore up funding for SS and other programs without having to raise more taxes.
However, don’t hold your breath, politicians never “lear”
Congress needs to stop STEALING our SS money. ILLEGAL Aliens should not get benefits. There’s so much fraud in this country.If it was cleaned up, we would pay zero income taxes.
What a joke…Social Security Trust Fund. There is no such thing since the trust fund was moved into the general fund under the Johnson Administration to pay for the Vietnam war.
The so-called “trust fund” is nothing more than a bookkeeping function. The surplus money is long gone. The debt is now $39+ trillion, with annual deficits of $1.5+ trillion. The Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, have spent this country into oblivian.
Discretionary spending is minimal and cannot be cut back to balance the budget. Medicare, medicaid, social security, and defense is about 80% of annual spending.
Increasing economic activity to generate additional tax revenue is the sound approach. Other options are all painful. I really feel sorry for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for generations to come as they will truly have to pay for the foolishness of the government and also the voters who have not held the government to task.
We need a Convention of the States to fix the Federal government with term limits and a balanced budget.
They should but they won’t.
With a dearth of leadership, this do-nothing Congress will kick the can down the road until after the 2028 election.
Welfare and giving $$$ to illegals and other NGO’s needs to stop. But the left will never put an end to this because they will not have a voter base. If we could eliminate the fraud and stop giving Welfare to healthy adults who can work, maybe we can not only keep SS benefits but increase them.
Mostly, I’d like to see congress do anything positive. It’s been awhile.

Corrupted government has stolen from it for years, but today’s (Obama & Biden’s) commie government has surpassed corruption allowing SS to dead people and illegals, and who knows who else. Fix the corruption Stop any illegal payouts. There never should have been a department for social security in the first place. It was just another avenue for a corrupt party to get our money and misuse it (steal from it): I feel bad for anyone who has paid into it; not see a return on it.

With all the fraud money being found, there is no reason SS should be in dire straits. We need a clean-up on aisle DC. State officials need to be held accountable and prosecuted if need be.
I am coming to the age where I should be able to start receiving the “benefits” of all my social security contributions. Unfortunately, there are too many lazy people and illegals who are getting my money.Social Security should have been privatized long ago so each person would have total control of their retirement investments and not the government. It goes the same with Medicare. I paid into the broken corrupt system for years and now I have to pay again for what I have already paid for because illegals are getting my benefits at no cost to them. How about taking care of American citizens! It would be nice if we could choose to opt out of having our hard earned benefits being given to those who have not earned a cent to it.
How about kicking congress away from the hog trough? Do away with their golden benefits and make them pay into SS. Make them buy insurance, pay into a 401K plan and pay them in cash. In other words treat them as every other citizen, other than government employees at this time.
When we hear, daily, about the billions of dollars lost to fraud in our country, any discussion of taking money away from seniors who WORKED FOR THEM is disgusting. Reform in leadership of our congress is needed first.
It’s congress and their theft that has caused the problems. They dole out our funds to those that never paid in a dime. Money to illegals that they bribe to keep the scam going.
Congress should be on the same retirement program as “We the People”
Clean up the fraud in Social Security. Put Congress, Senate and all of Washington on Social Security and off their retirement programs and watch how fast things will change

Am I the only one tired of having the Social Security guillotine above my head? Congress takes care of themselves, so does the Senate and then turns around and ignores government waste and allowing fraud to take place. In addition, handouts to countries all around the world. Including welfare programs with generational benefits.
I didn’t make the rules for this program. I only abided by them. Now it’s the government’s turn.
Take the money from the politicians retirement and their slush funds
Congress will wait until the last minute while burying cuts. Then they will claim how they are heroes.
Politicians seem to forget that SS in MY money – I worked and paid into it. My employer paid into it. It is NOT welfare or and entitlement. It is MY money and I want it back.
DOGE could fix the problem if they were allowed to. The more money the government gets, the more they steal. Stop that and you fix everything.
Let’s face it. Congress is not trustworthy. They do not answer to “we the people” and they are the ones who have stolen our money, used it for their own gain, and now they want to call it a “benefit”?
I started working at age 16 an I will be 79 years old in a couple of months. I am STILL working because the thieves in Congress are not working on OUR behalf! Just look at John Thune!
We need to REPEAL the 17th Amendment, restore the original intent of having the Senators answer to the State and it’s citizenry.
If DC would clean up it’s act and get back to restoring fiscal responsibility, creating a balanced budget, eliminating deficits and investing our Social Security and Medicare monies for US, then we wouldn’t have this problem.
Congress if a den of thieves who have used the money we pay in to pad their own bank accounts, and buy votes to stay in power.
This may not help much but let’s start by tanking all the money that was gained by the crooked politicians ( bribes and insider trading ) and put that into the social security fund. I understand that that money won’t go far but it would be fun to watch them squirm.
No pensions for congress. They need to live on Social Security too.
I’m a conservative who ran two businesses for 51 years before retiring. The Congress needs to run the govt like a business. Balance the budget, reduce out of control spending and give the President line item veto power.
We elect, then re-elect our representatives for 10, 20, 30 years and they can never look ahead and fix things before there’s a crisis. What about the people that have paid in for years? Now they’re going to short-change them?? Remember, Social Security is not voluntary.
most important – remove ALL illegals , all deceased, & anyone else not truly eligible – publicly prosecute every fraud case – in the past year we have been told of people – some in government positions, collecting their long deceased family members social security. What we never hear, is how they were held accountable for defrauding social security.
Absolutely yes! The left needs to stop stealing! All of the illegals need to be purged from Social Security as well and sent back to whatever 3rd world cesspool they came from! And it needs to happen YESTETRDAY!
With all the FRAUD going on this should be a NO BRAINER. Anyone who is a NATURAL BORN American Citizen and has been working and paying into this system for years and years should be given a boost and over compensated for their hard work in this country. And I am NOT just talking about people who have an income of 70K of 75K or less. I MEAN EVERYONE regardless of their income. Stop giving OUR money to foreigners, illegals and lazy people on the take. But any change, a large percentage of the hard working population will be dissed. SINGLE PEOPLE. Is everyone aware that this so called “tax credit” for buying an American made car has a set limit on income? If you make one penny over $100K you get screwed. WHY? Why don’t these benefits apply to ALL Americans regardless of income. If someone doesn’t want to use it fine but what about the rest of us working hard for a decent and moderately comfortable life? Let’s talk Medicare. WTH with THAT system and process? If this then that? bull. Stop giving benefits to every loser that signs up. Complete coverage for ALL NATURAL BORN American citizens without making it a puzzle game. “Take care of our Seniors” Yeah, right…………………
Social Security is a promise from our Government; our Government has allowed the funds intended for the program to be raided for their wasteful spending habits; they need to change their spending abuse and return the funds to the Trust. Secondly, our Government has allowed people who have never worked a day or pay a penny into the program to get benefits from the program, senior immigrants who gain entry to our country by following their illegal children into the country can apply and receive benefits, this is not fair.
If S.S. wasn’t misappropriated in the first place we wouldn’t be having this conversation!
Pass a law that states that before a dime is cut from SS, all congress, and even the Executive branch, will see their pensions cut in order to protect the taxpayers who fund everything. I’m sure they’ll find the solution to fix this problem overnight.
Ponsey scheme from the start. The entire system sucks as does Medicare you have to buy all kinds of additional plans to be covered for anything. Work 50+ years for what? They should allow people to invest their own money. The system is broken.
Congress should reduce their personal benefits and expenditures.
First, make sure people are eligible, the right age, paid into the system. As for the SS Disability, ensure that those are truly disabled and can’t work. No system is perfect, but it can be better.
It’s a joke. The Dems started it. The Dems put the fund into the General Fund, something you or I would have went to prison for. The Dems lied and made it payable to people who never contributed.
We’re from the government and we’re here to help. Yeah, congress will fix it.
How about taking all the money recovered from fraud and adding it to the fund.
They should expel anyone in prison and ALL illegals whether they paid in or not! Who knows how much money is going out of the country from illegals sending it “home.” They could also raise the number where they stop withdrawing; if you are used to FICA being taken out, this shouldn’t be a big worry.
