Is Democrats’ Electoral Count Act “Reform” Just a Backdoor for Their Radical Voting Agenda?

The American left has spent much of the last year bending over backward to push its so-called “voting rights” agenda that would ban Voter ID, greenlight ballot harvesting, and effectively federalize every election in the United States. But while most Americans are by now familiar with Democrats’ attempts to implement these changes via new legislation, Joe Biden and his allies in Congress now appear to be switching tactics, and may instead be trying to pass many of the same measures under the guise of “reforming” the 135-year-old Electoral Count Act that establishes the procedures for counting electoral votes. Most alarmingly of all, some Republicans appear willing to join them.

When it comes to voting laws, the events of the last 12 months make Democrats’ true motivations clear. Following the hotly contested 2020 presidential election, a growing slate of red states introduced and passed legislation aimed at keeping elections secure through commonsense measures like Voter ID. These efforts policies have predictably triggered a wave of outrage from Democrats, members of the media, and even corporations like Coca-Cola and Major League Baseball, the latter of which moved its 2021 All Star game out of Atlanta in protest against Georgia’s election integrity law.

In response to laws like Georgia’s, Democrats have relentlessly tried to pass sweeping legislation like the “For the People Act” and the so-called “Voting Rights Act.” If enacted, these bills would have drastically undermined the integrity of U.S. elections by eliminating almost every commonsense measure in place to prevent fraud. But as these attempts have floundered, Democrats now hope they can trick enough naïve Republicans into buying into their ECA reform plan, even though the ECA has nothing to do with the issues Democrats are intent on promoting.

Two groups of senators—one led by Senators Angus King (I-ME), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and the other led by Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Susan Collins (R-ME)—have released legislative proposals to “modernize” the ECA and reexamine a handful of other key components of federal election laws and procedures. After the much-discussed controversy surrounding Vice President Mike Pence’s role in the election certification process in 2020, the senators say they are hopeful that an ECA “modernization” would “clarify” the role of the Vice President, among other minor tweaks that are expected to elicit bipartisan support.

But Manchin’s group, which includes 16 senators from both parties, has reportedly been divided into at least five subgroups that according to The Hill, are focusing not only on “reforming the 1887 Electoral Count Act” but also on “protecting election workers; voting practices and rights; the election assistance commission; and presidential transitions.”

These subgroups should make the larger intent of this initiative abundantly clear. The existence of a congressional working group focused on something as loosely defined as “voting practices and rights” should sound the alarm for conservatives. Although Democrats have cloaked their proposed transformations of federal elections in vague language like “voting rights” for months, the actual content of their previous legislation tells a starkly different story.

If passed, Democrat-sponsored bills like the “For the People Act” would ban state voter ID laws, allow states to tally mail-in votes that arrive as late as 10 days after Election Day, require states to allow ballot harvesting, and enable the federal government to alter disclosure laws in ways that would threaten Americans’ rights to political speech. Moreover, ratification of Democrats’ so-called “voting rights” legislation would mandate fifteen days of early voting and authorize automatic voter registration. After Democrats insisted that not passing these measures would lead to the death of American democracy, it seems like a safe bet that any “ECA reforms” they sign onto could contain some version of those same policies.

Notably, in the words of the Associated Press, Democrats’ new ECA-focused strategy largely relies on “forcing Republicans to relent”—and so far, Democrats have been successful. In addition to Collins, Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Roger Wicker (R-MS) have been engaged in talks with Manchin’s group. Are these senators—and others who may join them—knowingly or unknowingly making themselves accessories to the left’s election overhaul efforts?

Although many figures on the left continue to slander opponents of their far-reaching voting legislation as advocates of “Jim Crow 2.0,” it is of course such legislation itself—as well as all efforts to nationalize our elections—that pose the greatest threat to the Constitution, to American self-government, and to the right of all Americans to ensure their voices are freely and fairly heard at the ballot box.

To be sure, there may be room for a bipartisan bill that takes another look at the ECA, but Democrats have given Republicans no reason to believe that they are content with stopping there. As such, Republicans would be wise to look skeptically upon Democrats’ rhetorical calls for “bipartisanship” when their ultimate objective is clear.

The GOP has been down this road before. In July 2021, former President Donald Trump warned Republicans against voting in favor of Democrats’ massive infrastructure bill, much of which was allocated to far-left social spending priorities rather than legitimate infrastructure needs. “You are just being played by the Radical Left Democrats—they will give you nothing!” he shared in a statement.

For the sake of safe and secure elections and the sanctity of the ballot box, let’s hope elected Republicans don’t make the same mistake again.

Democrats NEVER give up. Something we sadly can’t say the same about most Republican politicians, who quickly fold at the first sign of resistance or unfavorable coverage from the MSM. If Democrats fail to get their way using one approach, they simply re-group and come at the issue from another angle.

One way of another the Democrats are committed to neutralizing the power of the vote that the American public currently has. The idea that common people should have the power to select or remove those that represent them has always been a despised idea by most Democrat politicians. They don’t consider you their peers and as such, why should they have to waste time campaigning for your votes. They prefer instead the governing style used in most authoritarian socialist countries. Why do you think Democrats have always spoken favorably about Russia, China and every other socialist or communist country? The Party in power selects a candidate. A sham election is run and the Party declares that their candidate received 90 or 100 percent of the vote. No matter how the people actually voted. Any street protests are met with overwhelming force and those protesting are either imprisoned or disappeared (killed).

Democrats found a way in 2020 and 2021 to guarantee themselves a win in two key elections, back to back, using the methodology they now what to permanent in nature. One being the Presidency in 2020 that gave us Biden and the other in 2021 by using the same means to flip two Senate seats in Georgia to hand Congress completely over to the Democrats using the exact same means. So is it really surprising that the Democrats want to standardize this process across the country to ensure a favorable outcome to all future elections?

When you look at these issues thru the eyes of rinos things clarify nicely. From their points of view, they’re looking to gather wealth as well as esteem from elites. Their personal goals are most easily reached from a minority stance. In the majority they face the ire of the left and must answer to the folks back home. Therefore they do just enough to protect their status at home and count on their base coming thru for them because the dem running against them is less palatable. After they’re elected they run into the arms of the dems to ‘get things done’ and avoid gridlock. Theyre blind to the excesses of the left but hypersensitive to the faults, real or imagined, of their colleagues. If its true that high school is forever, these were the unpopular nerds with an insatiable thirst for acceptance from those that despise them. Unfortunately we’re stuck with this situation; the dems who are deadly serious and 100% commited faced by phony warriors eager to accommodate.

Thank you for this article. I had no idea that Senators were proposing legislation to modernize the Electoral Count Act. Another example of how Democrats will continually make moves to manipulate our voting systems to their advantage because they fear they can’t win legitimate with the laws we have now that actually secure the integrity of our votes.

I certainly hope Republicans will not be duped by Democrats once again!

I AM NOT AS INFORMED AS THOSE COMMENTING BEFORE ME SUCH AS PAULE but the foundation has been laid. The political demons will not stop. As I have discussed with many folks there is only the complete annihilation of the left that will curb election garbage! Very few stand in opposition to the many election issues and try to fix them- one example is Judicial Watch.

This is not just the Democrats. Have you noticed the courts, the state legislators, the county and city and officials elected or not, democrat or republican, conservative or liberal, they are all the same “GLOBALIST”. People need to watch documentaries, read, and do as much research as they can. Have discussions with other people. Find out where they get their information from and then read it themselves. Personally, I have been watching politics since I was 13 years old during the Vietnam War. I would read the Orange County Register from front to back every day. I heard people say that “it never made any difference what party was in charge, nothing ever changes”, I was naive, and thought that the republicans just never had been elected for a long enough time. I kept hoping the one day things would change. Then one day I saw on Fox News, Glenn Beck. He was a teacher. I would tune him in every day to learn from him. He used his chalkboards, and everyday did some review and then added more. I along with many americans were learning from him. Then one day He got the boot from Fox News. he was replaced by Judge Andrew Napolitano. He too was a great teacher. He would take current events, and discus the constitutionality of what was being proposed in congress, or the Supreme Court. It was another learning time. Then one day Fox News gave him the boot. The old saying “you can’t see the forest for the trees” is so true. The world is full of “TREES” Everyone has a couple of trees that the watch very closely. It may be the tree of Abortion Rights, or the tree of Civil Rights, or the tree of Social Justice. Which ever tree you are watching, you are watching it to closely, and you can’t see the rest of the forest. and that is the forest that is on fire, and destroying everything in its way to get to a NEW WORLD ORDER. The Ideas of HItler, Mussolini, Lenin, Stain, and many other world leaders in history, did not die with them. They are dead but their Ideas of a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT has never died.
So yes all of those individual trees are important, but don’t let it distract you from the forest fire that is going on behind it.

The swamp dwellers are trying to subvert the electoral process but as far as the college is concerned they probably need another amendment to make more changes and these silly states who want to give up their power by eliminating the college seem not to realize that DOES require an amendment ratified by 38 states. I do not believe that would ever be successful. I read H.R. 1 and think its authors should be shot as anti-American. It took more than half a ream of paper and more than one ink cartridge to print it. When those online who attempt to argue with me are told they are not permitted to if they haven’t read it and that all they are articulating is leftist propaganda.

If the cheating goes on this year to the extent that it did for the 2020 election, and again, nothing is done about it by the courts, then I think there needs to be a discussion of how to split the States into separate countries, one based on conservative values, and one based on socialist/communist/Marxist values, as they prefer. How that can be done, I don’t know.

I know that some will not like this comment, but it has to be said. I want this country to be one country, but right now, I don’t see how that is going to happen. The game is rigged, and has been rigged for decades. Nothing less than crushing the Dems will be good enough to stop this.

You can only Delegate Authority to a Subordinate, and can only Delegate authority that you already possess.

  1. The Government is not Superior to us, they are Subordinate to us that’s why we Delegate Powers to the Government
  2. We can only Delegate to them Powers we already posses. like a Police force, we have the right to protect our properties, so we create a police force and Delegate that power to them, because we have to work, and do other activities
  3. We do not possess the authority to take money from one neighbor and give it to another neighbor, no matter how much we think it is unfair. It is called stealing. So we cannot Delegate that authority to congress, and nowhere in those above listed powers was that Delegated to Congress.

If just this much was taught in school about our Constitution our country would change.

Why did the Founding Fathers create the Electoral College regarding Presidential elections? The number of Electoral College delegates form the various states depends upon the state’s population and the number of Senators that it has.
Since every state has two Senators the less populated states have more delegates than the larger populated states, per capita.

The Founders understood that the smaller states would be dominated by the big states unless some mechanism was devised to keep the big states from running rough shod over the smaller states.

We are now a nation of over 330-million citizens. If you divide that population number by the number of states, you can determine which states are “large” and which states are “small”. 330-million people divided by 50 states equals approximately 6,600,000. If your state has less than this number you should love the concept of the Electoral College because you have more say in who becomes the President of the United States. Conversely, if you live in a “big” state you cannot lord it over the citizens in the smaller states during the General elections.

The Founders were extremely prescient in creating the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Nevertheless, it’s a shame that they did not officially set term limits to keep politicians from making lifelong careers out of feeding at the public money trough. The Founders also should have required the government to balance the budget each year with one exception, i.e. when our society might be violently attacked by an aggressor nation.

All we seem to hear is the need to protect our “democracy.” Yet the words “democrat” or “democracy” NEVER appear in our Constitution. And it is interesting to read what our founding fathers had to say about democracy. They totally rejected the idea of “democracy” along with Monarchy and Parliamentary for governing the United States. As Mister Franklin remarked it is our duty to keep the “Republic” if we can! The “fathers” went to extremes to create a government where individuals, especially those in the political minority were protected from the abuses of a less than ethical majority. The Electoral College is only one of those means. Unfortunately the “democrat” party will keep chipping a those protections until our esteemed republic is lost.

Returning full responsibility for elections to the legislature of each state is what the federal government must do. Electors the legislatures have certified are the ones to count with the specification that each legislature must only certify one set.
Furthermore, each legislature should be the only authority to investigate voter fraud. If our congress is unsure that any state is not handling elections responsibly, they should limit their interference to backing more responsible legislators in their own states.
If the January 6 committee could really learn what triggered the massive turnout to their own building on the day the electors were counted, I believe they would discover the creative activities of congress leaves citizens very unsure that these power-hungry people will stay in their lane. It makes us feel we have to go there and insist.

Very few stand in opposition to the many election issues and try to fix them- one example is Judicial Watch.

This is not just the Democrats. Have you noticed the courts, the state legislators, the county and city and officials elected or not, democrat or republican, conservative or liberal, they are all the same “GLOBALIST”. People need to watch documentaries, read, and do as much research as they can. Have discussions with other people. Find out where they get their information from and then read it themselves. Personally, I have been watching politics since I was 13 years old during the Vietnam War. I would read the Orange County Register from front to back every day. I heard people say that “it never made any difference what party was in charge, nothing ever changes”, I was naive, and thought that the republicans just never had been elected for a long enough time. I kept hoping the one day things would change. Then one day I saw on Fox News, Glenn Beck. He was a teacher. I would tune him in every day to learn from him. He used his chalkboards, and everyday did some review and then added more. I along with many americans were learning from him. Then one day He got the boot from Fox News. he was replaced by Judge Andrew Napolitano. He too was a great teacher. He would take current events, and discus the constitutionality of what was being proposed in congress, or the Supreme Court. It was another learning time. Then one day Fox News gave him the boot. The old saying “you can’t see the forest for the trees” is so true. The world is full of “TREES” Everyone has a couple of trees that the watch very closely. It may be the tree of Abortion Rights, or the tree of Civil Rights, or the tree of Social Justice. Which ever tree you are watching, you are watching it to closely, and you can’t see the rest of the forest. and that is the forest that is on fire, and destroying everything in its way to get to a NEW WORLD ORDER. The Ideas of HItler, Mussolini, Lenin, Stain, and many other world leaders in history, did not die with them. They are dead but their Ideas of a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT has never died.
So yes all of those individual trees are important, but don’t let it distract you from the forest fire that is going on behind it.

The swamp dwellers are trying to subvert the electoral process but as far as the college is concerned they probably need another amendment to make more changes and these silly states who want to give up their power by eliminating the college seem not to realize that DOES require an amendment ratified by 38 states. I do not believe that would ever be successful. I read H.R. 1 and think its authors should be shot as anti-American. It took more than half a ream of paper and more than one ink cartridge to print it. When those online who attempt to argue with me are told they are not permitted to if they haven’t read it and that all they are articulating is leftist propaganda.

If the cheating goes on this year to the extent that it did for the 2020 election, and again, nothing is done about it by the courts, then I think there needs to be a discussion of how to split the States into separate countries, one based on conservative values, and one based on socialist/communist/Marxist values, as they prefer. How that can be done, I don’t know.

I know that some will not like this comment, but it has to be said. I want this country to be one country, but right now, I don’t see how that is going to happen. The game is rigged, and has been rigged for decades. Nothing less than crushing the Dems will be good enough to stop this.

The Democrat Party, never any friend to this nation or its citizens, long ago morphed into The New Communist Party of the USA. Their goal is very simple: Power and control, at any price, at any cost. Since public knowledge of their true agenda would quickly lose them virtually all of their supporters, all they ever do is lie, misinform, and deceive. Knowing full well they cannot win any national election if it is conducted fairly, they cheat, in any and every way they can. And they have been doing that for decades, to an ever-increasing degree. No one with a functioning brain can possibly believe the election of 2020 was a fair one. And unless something serious and severe is done very soon to ensure some sort of election integrity, this nation is doomed because the Communists – er, I mean the Democrats – are simply going to continue stealing elections, from now until the end of time.

Any time the left wants to lay hands on any aspect of our election process, they need to be watched like a hawk. Why, when a RINO like Susan Collins is working with her fellow democrats on this election stealing project, do they say that the project has GOP support?

HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY READ THE CONSTITUTION?
Read the ninth and 10th amendments.

Ninth AmendmentThe enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

10th AmendmentThe powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Section 8: Powers of Congress

  1. The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
  2. To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;
  3. To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;
  4. To establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;
  5. To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;
  6. To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;
  7. To establish Post Offices and post Roads;
  8. To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;
  9. To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court;

  18. To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

You can only Delegate Authority to a Subordinate, and can only Delegate authority that you already possess.

  1. The Government is not Superior to us, they are Subordinate to us that’s why we Delegate Powers to the Government
  2. We can only Delegate to them Powers we already posses. like a Police force, we have the right to protect our properties, so we create a police force and Delegate that power to them, because we have to work, and do other activities
  3. We do not possess the authority to take money from one neighbor and give it to another neighbor, no matter how much we think it is unfair. It is called stealing. So we cannot Delegate that authority to congress, and nowhere in those above listed powers was that Delegated to Congress.

If just this much was taught in school about our Constitution our country would change.
Pass this on to everyone you know, it is not that difficult to understand.

Unfortunately I do not believe we will ever have a fair election. With NY allowing illegals to vote where does this go? Communism is taking over our government and soon we will be totally indebted to the people stealing f rom us.
