WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) delivered the following remarks today on the Senate floor regarding yesterday’s S.1 markup:
“A one-party takeover of our political system.
“That’s what Senate Democrats brought to the Rules Committee yesterday. Their side’s top priority for multiple years now.
“The supposed rationales for this bill change constantly.
“A few years ago, when majorities of Democrats were mistakenly convinced that foreigners had hacked voting machines and tampered with tallies in 2016, this was marketed as an election security bill.
“But it keeps morphing to suit new headlines. Lately it’s been called a racial justice bill. Some Senators say it’s really a response to some recent state-level legislation… even though their bill predates those bills by multiple years.
“A partisan power-grab in search of a justification.
“Voter turnout last November was the highest in decades. African-American turnout was twice as high in Mississippi as it was in Massachusetts. Democrats’ hysterical attacks against the new election law in the state of Georgia have been dismantled, even by typically left-leaning “fact-checkers.”
“There’s no crisis. Our Democratic friends just want the power to re-wire our democracy on a partisan basis.
“S. 1 would take the Federal Election Commission, the bipartisan panel that regulates elections and private citizens’ speech, and make it a partisan body run by Democrats.
“It would let Washington Democrats act like a nationwide Board of Elections on steroids, neutering popular things like Voter I.D. and forcing legalized ballot harvesting onto all 50 states.
“This bill would let bureaucrats snoop around more in free speech… attack citizens’ privacy so dramatically that even the liberal ACLU is unhappy… and even send public funds directly to politicians!
“Republicans put forward amendments to fix these things. If Democrats had wanted real bipartisan solutions, Republicans were there, at the table, and ready. But Democrats voted us down.
“They wouldn’t even let us redirect that public money to the opioid crisis! They wanted that cash for their own campaigns.
“This partisan power grab failed to advance out of committee for the same reason it must never become law as written:
“It will shatter public confidence in our democracy if the Democratic Party decides it can rig the rules.”
Again, we are a republic, NOT a democracy. That the RINO wing of the Republican party doesn’t seem to understand the difference between the two, or just doesn’t want it to be the case, just screams why they all need to be replaced with constitutional conservatives that both respect and understand the Constitution of the United States of America and the form of government our Founding Fathers gave us.
Totally agree with Paul and he basically stated everything the way I think … we need to keep our Republic in place; neither side is going to do that for us … We The People need to see a majority of these Rhinos and Lefty Dems move on and out … PERIOD!!!
I wish everyone would remember America is a “Constitutional Republic”, not a “Democracy”!
If this is true and S.1 is indeed dead in committee, I am exuberant. I’ve been so worried that this bill could not be stopped.
What happened is that the democrats failed again to advance a takeover they have pushed FOR YEARS. it won’t happen right now but the party intends to continue to push for power over all the voters.
This bill will not advance to passage RIGHT NOW. It is helpful to know that it has been tried for years (and obviously will be again). We need vigilant senators and representatives or there will be something that functions like communism and we don’t need any name right now besides DEMOCRAT.
Don’t turn your back on the vicious DIMMs. They will try any maneuvers–legal or extralegal to get their way!

Yes, it failed in committee,THIS TIME but that will NOT stop them from trying. Their ultimate goal is the complete and utter destruction of our democracy!
Of course they’re going to try again, they’re going to keep trying until they get what they want and that’s to completely destroy our democracy that’s their goal. I wish they’d get cought for all they’re criminal acts they’ve done and finally justice be served now I don’t know how the rest of you feel but I’d like to see every democrat get the death penalty especially Biden, Harris, and Pelosi but they all deserve death. I believe I’ve been more fed-up with democrats than I’ve been in a long time especially with covid and having our borders wide open for any kind of gutter trash to just come walking on in here spreading covid cause I heard immigrants had tested positive for covid and no telling how many more cause they keep us in the dark about a lot of the democrats’ criminal acts which pisses me off cause we have a right to know what’s going on in our own damn country but of course the damn media doesn’t think so, I’d like to see the damn media get cought and get put to death along with them, they want to cover up for them so damn bad, so let them die with them. Damn trash! Until someone gets the common sense to do something about them there ain’t nothing ever going to change for the better, it’s just going to keep getting worse and worse until someone does do something but by then it might be too late and that’s what I’m fearing will happen I want to be wrong I wish someone cared enough to do something cause our country is at stake, everything we hold dear is at stake.
