Did you know that every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke? According to the CDC, that was just in 2022 alone. Fortunately, 80% of cardiovascular disease and stroke is preventable, according to the American Heart Association. If you are age 40 or older, you should consider getting screened for stroke and cardiovascular disease risks.
Life Line Screening has been offering peace of mind or early detection for stroke and cardiovascular disease risk since 1993, with over 10 million people screened. Not only is it easy to get screened, it’s affordable, non-invasive and convenient with over 14,000 community-based locations throughout the U.S.
Life Line Screening offers preventive health screenings such as Carotid Artery Disease Screening, Atrial Fibrillation Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, and Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening. All screenings use state-of-the-art ultrasound technology and are performed by highly trained staff. Vascular screening sonographers undergo rigorous education and training to ensure the highest clinical standards are met. Life Line Screening’s laboratories are Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) accredited.
Most screening results are reviewed by a board-certified physician and are shared with you within 10 days after the screening via an online, secure portal, My Life Line. Through My Life Line, you will have access to your screening results, as well as pre-registration. Through My Life Line, you will be able to download test results to share with your physician and see if you qualify for clinical trials. If a critical finding is identified, you’ll be notified on the day of the screening, so you can fast-track a treatment plan with your doctor.
In 2022 alone, Life Line Screening provided screenings to over 600,000 customers, held events at over 14,000 locations nationwide, identified 9,000 critical results, and discovered about 36,000 abnormal results.
Life Line Screening encourages their customers to bring their results to their primary care physician so they may take action or be proactive with their health. These are the same screenings your doctor could order for you, but generally, health insurance doesn’t cover them until symptoms are present.
Life Line Screening is offering AMAC members a special discount for all 4 preventive stroke and cardiovascular disease risk screenings for only $135.
This special screening package includes:
Carotid Artery Disease Screening: an ultrasound is performed to screen the carotid arteries (a pair of blood vessels in the neck that deliver blood to your brain) for buildup of fatty plaque. This buildup, called atherosclerosis, is one of the leading causes of stroke.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Screening: an Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) test is performed using blood pressure cuffs on the arms and legs. It is important to screen for PAD because it increases the risk of coronary artery disease, heart attack or stroke [1].
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening: an ultrasound is performed to screen the abdominal aorta for the presence of an enlargement or aneurysm. AAA can lead to a ruptured aortic artery, which is a life-threatening medical emergency.
Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Screening: a 6-lead electrocardiogram (EKG) is performed by placing sensors on the arms and legs to screen for Atrial Fibrillation. AFib can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.
