AMAC Backs Critical Legislation to Protect Medicare Amid Unprecedented Threat from Democrat Spending Bill

As Democrats’ so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” threatens to send Medicare premiums skyrocketing, AMAC Action this week announced its support for S. 424, the Protect our Seniors Act, introduced by Senator Rick Scott of Florida. This important legislation will help keep Medicare premiums low in addition to redirecting funding to protect seniors’ Social Security benefits.

As a result of policies in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the average monthly premium for Medicare Part D plans increased 21 percent in 2024. To make matters worse, earlier this summer, the Biden Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services revealed that Medicare Part D bid rates are set to balloon 180 percent in 2025 as a result of policies in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.

For the more than 50 million seniors enrolled in Part D programs, this increase will inevitably be passed on to them in the form of premium rate hikes.

But in order to hide these cost increases until after the election, the Biden-Harris administration introduced a temporary, taxpayer-funded bailout program into the IRA. Democrats believe that they can pull a fast one on the American people through this unsustainable solution that ultimately burdens taxpayers and will be a disaster for seniors.

Senator Scott’s legislation helps address this problem through three important changes to government spending policy.

First, it rescinds funding for the Biden-Harris administration’s 87,000 new IRS agents and redirects those funds to Social Security and Medicare.

Second, it establishes a new requirement mandating that any savings to Medicare as a result of changes to the program must be re-invested in the Medicare program itself. Democrats’ climate change priorities in the IRA were in part funded by supposed “savings” to Medicare, in effect passing those higher costs on to beneficiaries.

Third, the bill creates a new rule requiring a two-thirds vote of Congress to approve any cuts to Medicare or Social Security.

This important bill is a vital first step to reverse the harmful damage done to Social Security and Medicare by the IRA and stave off the looming insolvency crisis. AMAC Action is proud to back efforts like this on behalf of our 2.1 million members.

Legislation and Policy Support

AMAC Supports H.R. 779 – No Social Security for Illegal Aliens Act of 2023

Illegal aliens have no claim on Social Security funds that rightfully belong to senior Americans who worked hard and contributed to the program. The intent of Social Security has always been to provide benefits to those who have worked, contributed to the system, and are lawfully residing in the United States. This commonsense legislation ensures that Social Security benefits will remain exclusive to eligible American citizens and lawful residents. Click here to read our letter of support.

Meetings

August 28 Candidate Forum: VA-07 Delegate Rex Jamieson hosted a candidate forum to provide AMAC members the opportunity to meet the congressional candidates for District 7 of Virginia. All of whom have been invited.

August 29 Chapter Meeting: PA-11 Delegate and Chapter Leader Valerie Spelman hosted the meeting and Amber Martin, Lancaster County Treasurer and small business owner, led a discussion on Lancaster politics and happenings.

Volunteer as a Poll Worker

Poll workers are a crucial part of the democratic process and play a vital role in helping citizens cast their ballots. Amid continuing concerns about election integrity, poll workers are set to have an especially large impact this fall. Election law requires both Republicans and Democrats to work the polls in order to ensure an unbiased and bipartisan process and many jurisdictions continue to face shortfalls of poll workers.

Serving as a poll worker is an easy way to get involved in the community and help keep the wheels of democracy turning. Any eligible voter who is interested can sign up using the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s user-friendly Poll Worker Recruitment Lookup Tool to find their local precinct and sign up!

“Bootcamp for Boomers” to Long Island on September 14, 2024

This crucial election-year gathering will empower Long Island patriots to help turn New York red. It will also mobilize AMAC members to help win critical Congressional seats on Long Island, which will be pivotal in deciding control of the U.S. House this fall.

Featured speakers will include former New York Representative and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, Just the News CEO John Solomon, AMAC CEO Rebecca Weber, former Trump trade policy advisor Peter Navarro, television commentator and columnist Tammy Bruce, Former Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Mark Morgan, and other conservative leaders.

“AMAC’s Bootcamp for Boomers is a crucial opportunity to engage voters and equip them with the knowledge they need to have an impact in their communities,” said Tammy Bruce. “I look forward to being a part of this important event taking place in the heart of a battleground district and raising awareness about the most pressing issues facing our country.”

“When government – in pursuit of good intentions – tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the cost come in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.”

This news is another reminder of the unscrupulous left stealing the funds that that seniors earned and contributed over their entire working lives.
The left says it’s “A-OK” to swindle seniors out of their money… with which the left would buy political opportunities. This is money that the left were never owed, and never earned… but they say it’s OK to steal it from seniors who need it in their old age and retirement.

It has always been my understanding that, by law, ANYONE in this country illegally is entitled to but one taxpayer-paid benefit: emergency health care – and that is it. So why is there a need to discuss such matters as this?

How about the only people who receive social security benefits are those who actually pay into it?

Congress must act now if they truly want protected trust fund like Social Security. Congress needs to raise the payroll taxes on both & raising premiums on people already on Medicare is not the correct way. Also, article says that bill will allocate Biden funds for additional IRS people go to Social Security instead. I do not think any bill should send funds to SS fund as I doubt if this is legal. The government has borrowed from SS Trust fund & is paying huge interest on these dollars at the current time. Congress needs to quit kicking Social Security funding down the road & pass bills that will sustain this for future generations.

From their corrupt exploitative policies, there are a lot of politicians wanting to “Bankrupt Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, The Military” will all sorts of foolish rules and laws only to deconstruct these programs. Illegals are not to benefits from any of these programs, not does it make sense to violate our laws, commit crimes, and then given benefits by hard working Americans. Why is it so hard for some in Congress to be ethical?

Does AMAC know about the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection of 2022? President Biden made this secret agreement with 22 Latin American countries to accept their refugees across our open border. Dated June 10, 2022.

Not so sure that is the truth that funding is for 87,000 new agents. The media I have watched says this funding was needed to replace retired agents & also for some IRS business costs. If this money exists, why not save it and put it back in General fund and why pass a bill that will just spend it anyway. I do not support this bill as written.
