Mavericks, Manchin, and the Media Mob

Remember how giddy the liberal media mob was when Arizona Senator John McCain gave his famous “thumbs down” to kill Obamacare.  News networks sang McCain’s praises for weeks because he kept a big government program in place.  McCain was famous for standing up to his fellow Republicans on occasion, and he proudly embraced the “maverick” moniker along with never taking a single pork-barrel program for his state while serving in Congress.  Maverick aside, McCain’s long voting record was staunchly conservative.

The media mob was equally giddy when GOP Reps. Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney criticized Donald Trump, their own favorite target of scorn.

But when Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia stood up to fellow Democrats, declaring to be a “no” on Biden’s behemoth Build Back Better plan, the media mob sang a different tune.  There was an audible on-air “gasp” from several CNN commentators when the news broke live.  Theirs and other network personalities’ personal preference for socialist policies was exposed, their own sighs emblematic of the “loss” they felt in that instant.

Next up was a parade of angry progressives calling in to book time on the major networks to blast Manchin.  The media lapped it up, with some commentators seeming to join in the castigation of him.  Some of the criticism became personal.  Yet there wasn’t so much as even a cursory analysis as to why Manchin was a “no.”

It would not have been difficult for the media mob to even fake some fairness or give a semblance of equal time to studying Manchin’s “no” vote.  Inflation is at a 40-year high.  There are record deficits and debt.

Perhaps the media could have noted some of the truly perverse special interest parts in Build Back Better, like expanding SALT (state and local tax) deductions, ironically the most anti-progressive provision in the bill.  That provision is a boon for rich homeowners in high tax blue states like Nancy Pelosi’s and Chuck Schumer’s.  It was clearly written with big Democrat donors in mind.

Then there are the subsidies for hiring journalists.  How about the big tax credits for buying an electric car, something only the wealthy can do?  And don’t forget the bonus if the car was made in a union plant, another goodie for a key, though dwindling, Democrat constituency.  There are food benefits for the summer months when kids are out of school.  Taxpayers would be right to ask, how have children eaten all these years without summer food benefits?  There’s $1 billion for salmon conservation.  The list goes on.

No, there hasn’t been serious mainstream media coverage of this massive bill for most of 2021.  Coverage has been focused on vague “save the planet” ideas and direct childcare payments to families, with little mention that the funds go to wealthy families too.  It was this fact that Joe Manchin often homed in on, stating how wasteful that was and how the payments created perverse incentives because of a lack of work requirements.  It makes you wonder, how did families ever manage before these payments?  And if the payments continue to drive prices up, how is anyone then better off?

Fellow Democrats and their media mob allies would be wise to try to understand Manchin’s concerns.  They are legitimate.  He has consistently cited the national debt and the precarious positions of Social Security and Medicare in interviews for over a decade.

If Democrats continue badgering, and badgering is the very word Manchin used to describe leftist tactics against him, Manchin might very well do what GOP Senator Jim Jeffords of Vermont did on May 24, 2001.  Jeffords left the GOP to become an Independent to caucus with the Democrats, throwing the 50-50 Senate control the other way.  In an instant, then-Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) became minority leader.

Will Manchin be a maverick and switch parties?  Maybe.  His home state went for Donald Trump at nearly 70% in 2020.  And don’t forget that fellow West Virginian and GOP Governor Jim Justice was once a Democrat too.  If he became an Independent or joined the GOP, Manchin’s best explanation to his former colleagues might very well be, “I didn’t leave the Democrat party.  The party left me.”

People like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Schumer are the reason I no longer vote the DemoRat ticket. Crooked liars and thieves who wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them upside the head.My hats off to Manchin. At least one Democrat has America’s best interest at heart. It saddens my heart to watch. January 20th is one year since Biden and his party stole the election. It’s going to be a long 3 years. All we can do is pray and watch the circus continue.Puppets all, controlled by greed.

Good reporting and analysis of the upside-down culture that has invaded DC. I wonder how many of WV AMAC Chapters helped to influence Sen Manchin. We need more Chapters doing similar work across the country if we expect our states to be the solution that restores America to its greatness.

In my lifetime, demonRat Communists have never been about helping America. That party has always striven for more taxes, more fines, more fees, and more taxes so they can build ever more government spending. Because along with that increased ability to tax and spend OUR money, comes more power for them to control us through those taxes, fines, and fees.
This evil, perverse ‘bill’ is the culmination of 6 decades to finish their act of raiding our pockets. If it passes, no American will be allowed to keep what they EARN.
STOP ELECTING DEMOCRAT COMMUNISTS!

Every day something absurd is hatched with this administration. Build Back Better . I want to vomit when I hear that cliche. Thank you Senator Manchin for being a real democrat . Tulsi Gabbard , another true Democrat. People who have common sense. There is no more real Democratic Party. Keep up the absurdity dems . . . and see what happens in November of 2022 . We have THREE years of this cluster _ _ _ _ left. God help us.

Don’t overestimate ONE decision. Will Manchin vote for the crooked Voting Act? Will he approve tax increases? Will he vote to fund abortions with tax dollars and remove the Hyde Amendment? Keep your eyes and ears OPEN!

While I do applaud Manchin on this one account of denying BBB this time…..he is still a political animal and has a history of compromise, swaffeling and weakness along the way. If he stands his ground now, will he do so come the first of the year when Congress gathers again to propose the BBB bill in all its “glory?” While Manchin is given accolades from one side and condemnation from the other, you can bet he will make decisions based on his own political status while faking conservative or moderate attitudes, as long as it meets with his personal agenda……that has been his history, and I don’t see this leopard changing his spots…..but if he does, he will have to go all the way……complete separation from any democrat platform of any shape or form…..only then will I trust his moves…..and still will look on him with eyes and ears looking and listening to see if he fits the old adage…..don’t believe anything said, and only half of what you see……from any and all politicians. Period….end of message.

Thank you to Joe Manchin for standing his ground and not wanting to see our grandchildren and great grandchildren burdened with this massive debt. God bless you and God bless America.

Build Back “Worse” is just more of the same swamp crap….payoffs to Democratic supporters, buying votes, and the selling of programs designed to increase the wealth of the Senator and House members that are ruining the country…..same old commie greed garbage….

If the Dems held a real majority in the Senate he’d do the country more good to stay Democrat but in this case, he should switch just to teach the Squab a lesson.

In order to survive the game played in Washington rules must be observed else those around you and the media will peck you to death I do not expect any heroism there might be a maverick but very few would dare to show an open support

Mr. McCain give deleterious dyspeptics a bad name. He spent ~25 of his 34 years in Congress trying to make up for his 5th from the bottom class ranking at the Naval Academy. This does not make him much different than the significant majority of colleagues. We should honor and respect him for his courage, endurance and strength of character during his POW years. However, his is, and should be, quite separate from his public life.

Many good comments below. I can only add that wva is an unusual state. In my lifetime its gone from blue to red, mostly because of commie anti coal activity. Jim Justice was a coal executive and dem before becoming governor as an R. Of course manchin is maneuvering tactically. It would be great if he switched parties but its highly doubtful given the severe social consequences.

Though the Right would be happy to have him, I think we need Manchin to stay right where he IS. Having a Moderate on the other side, is a very GOOD thing, as this vote just proved.

I couldn’t care less what the media says about Sen. Manchin. I’m proud of him for standing up for our country. The BBB is not good for us. Way too much money being thrown around in DC ever since Biden was elected. Sen. Manchin had no intent to OK the bill early on due to the amnesty that was included. Had the Demon Craps removed it from the bill there’s a slight chance it may have passed. IMO, the Demons are imploding and may soon be gone!

Just goes to show how the media loves traitors and lock-steppers. Its pretty bad when a senator from West Virginia also votes in the best interests of Nevada… which is more credit then I give my two from here!
