There were no “Americans” in the late 1300’s. “America” firs appeared when Waldseemüller named the new lands “America” on his 1507 map in recognition of Amerigo Vespucci’s understanding that a new continent had been uncovered by Christopher Columbus and subsequent voyages in the late 15th century.
