Cuomo Might Be Leaving Office, But His Failed Blue State Model Remains

Following a sexual harassment scandal that captured the attention of the nation over the past several months, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that he will resign as governor, effective two weeks from yesterday. But while New Yorkers may finally be rid of their creepy, handsy governor, the legacy of Cuomo’s disastrous policies will unfortunately continue its negative impact on the Empire State and weigh down attempts at economic recovery and growth.

Ironically, if Cuomo had prioritized working with small businesses, eliminating bureaucratic red tape, and removing onerous taxes, he could have had more small businesses and lower costs. But he instead chose to move in the opposite direction and, as is usually the case, more government involvement in private industry created a nightmare for companies and consumers.

One law in particular from earlier this year is a perfect case study, not only in Cuomo’s dreadful governing record, but in the bullying, Big Government, Blue State model that he so vividly represented. On April 16, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed legislation to impose price controls on high-speed internet. Under this bill, providers were only allowed to charge $15 a month to low-income residents, regardless of the cost of providing service. Governor Cuomo celebrated the law, stating, “This program – the first of its kind in the nation – will ensure that no New Yorker will have to forego having reliable home internet service and no child’s education will have to suffer due to their economic situation.”

Almost immediately, the law was challenged by representatives of the telecommunications industry. They asserted that it was grossly illegal and that the state has no legal basis that would permit them to set or regulate the price of internet access.

Cuomo’s office was defiant. They immediately declared, “If these companies want to pick this fight, impede the ability of millions of New Yorkers to access this essential service, and prevent them from participating in our economic recovery, I say bring it on.” The infamously pugilistic Governor made it clear he wasn’t backing down – a trait that would again haunt him during his trial by media over sexual assault allegations a few months later.

In June, a federal court found merit in the industry’s challenge and temporarily banned the measure from being instituted. In the proceedings, it was revealed that the ban and its justification were almost ludicrously ill prepared and planned. When the state was challenged as to how it could legally set the price of a private industry service, they insisted that they weren’t actually setting the price at $15 because providers were free to charge less than $15. Additionally, the $15 price point wasn’t based on any research or knowledge. Even a cursory understanding of the telecom industry would reveal that many providers pay more than $15 per person in taxes and fees alone.

Needless to say, the judge wasn’t buying Cuomo’s argument. Within a matter of months of signing the bill, the state of New York abandoned it and chose to discontinue the case. The decision surprised few insiders. Some analysts theorized the Cuomo plan was mere “political theater.” They alleged that it was an attempt by the Governor to appear tough on corporations while accomplishing very little.

While Cuomo attempted to portray himself as standing up against “big business,” the truth is far more complicated. Many of the fiber optic cables laid across the country are not placed by large corporations. There are a number of small providers who specifically service areas that large providers ignore due to perceived inefficiency and cost. Currently, hundreds of thousands of homes are serviced by these small providers.

These companies had to spend millions of dollars and countless hours fighting Cuomo for their very survival. Additionally, although they technically won the battle, the legacy of the law could lead to a major chilling effect in which providers will be hesitant to provide low-cost fiber optic cables, out of fear they will be financially ruined should a future court rule in favor of a more cunning and well-prepared administration. In effect, Cuomo’s attempt to make internet access more ubiquitous and affordable would have made it more restricted and expensive.

Mercifully, with the three-term governor on his way out, New Yorkers will have a chance to pursue a different direction under hopefully more capable leadership. Unfortunately, however, the failed progressive model that tale exemplifies remains stubbornly in place in Blue State capitals across the country.

Getting rid of Andrew Cuomo was like scraping dog s**t off the bottom of a sneaker…Now that the ” Italian Stallion ” is stepping down, I say GOOD RIDDANCE! Cuomo was the epitome of self serving arrogance, in your face bullying, my way or the highway, etc., etc., etc…
The Democrats have rid themselves of one of their own. The logical question will be, who do they replace him with? If history is a judge where NY is concerned, his replacement will be every bit as bad, perhaps worse… The next question should be, WHO’S NEXT? #1 on my list & should come as no surprise to anyone, Bill DeBlasio, #2 should be AOC…? Consider this for a moment where AOC is concerned, she actually may be that White Hat the Republicans need with her in office because she for the most part dislikes her fellow Democrat peers & she politely puts up with the socialist Bernie Sanders…As for her other ( 3 ) anti – American Islamic Congresswomen peers, that is an entirely different story, Omar, Tlaib & Pressley have got to go & the sooner the better…
This is my rant for the morning & my congratulations to the individual New Yorkers that have finally rid themselves of this tyrant, Andrew Cuomo aka ” The Italian Stallion “… LOL!

Italian Stallion ???? How about Paisano Pony??? Cuomo won’t go far away. Will he spend much of his future in court? The future is not written yet. To come: Murder,Fraud,Theft of Tax payer Funds,Misuse of government employees or even carelessness with the truth. THE SOAP OPERA WILL STAY IN THE FRONT LINES AS LONG AS CUOMO IS MENTIONED. THE PLAYERS ARE AUDITIONING. THIS MAY BE QUITE A LONG RUNNING OFF BROADWAY PLAY.

Gee! Here in the Peoples Republic of ☭alifornia, we had to do a recall petition in order to have any chance of getting rid of our Governor Gruesome.

It is so refreshing to find that New York’s Governor Cuomo managed to “recall” himself through his own efforts (actually misdeeds). His resignation will be the unchallenged highpoint of his “career” and will probably be noted in the history books as his sole positive accomplishment while in(festing the) office!

You would think most Marxist Democrats would probably learn a lesson from this public display of criminal activity and abuse by an elected official….but I would venture to say that most leftists will behave the same way for years to come. These are the absurd behaviors that we should hold up each and every day as examples why voting these idiots into office just because the have a “D” beside their name is both dangerous and futile. The people like Cuomo are all about absolute power and ego. Their sole purpose is to get in power….not to help people. You wonder how many friends, donors, family members and political pals received significant financial benefits during his time as governor. As a whole, I would venture to say that New Yorkers are worst off because of his ineptitudes as a governor.

This democrat piece of scum must be prosecuted for his actions.
Merely resigning to save his own behind is NOT enough!
Cuomo is a liar, sexual predator, responsible for unknown numbers of deaths in nursing homes, corrupt and a self serving, immoral failed politician.
Equal justice under the law, and then his prison sentence.
NO MORE free passes for law breaking garbage like him.

Now THERE is a worthless turd that I would be glad to knock out cold.
When the civil courts get through with him he will be a pauper and
deservedly so. A painful death would be justice as well.

Ousting Cuomo is just the ‘demons’ using him as a ‘fall guy’ to keep the rest of us distracted. They know every bit of what they’re doing to this country and as long as they can keep us distracted by every side line issue they create, it will slow any prospects of a mounting ‘Civil War’,(at least in the fearful minds of the traitor administration; because I really wonder if able bodied American Patriots ‘fighting will’ for justice and the American way of life exists anymore). The few American Patriots like Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Green, Josh Hawley, and Louie Gohmert, does not an army of distinction make to rally a righteous battle and defeat these demons conquest of power and determination to destroy what the United States Of America has stood for around the world. And once again I resort to the Word of our Holy God in the Christian Bible which states: ‘A nation which forgets their God will fall.’ We have only ourselves to blame in that we’ve become complacent in our worship and acting as Christians rather than being ‘real.’ Christ gave us plenty of warnings about allowing ourselves to be deceived. Is it too late for our country at this point? I pray not, but for the faithful in Christ, we still have hope. For our nation, I believe only God will reveal that answer. We must pray for our families who are still lost without Christ. May God help us all!

Control of who gets to do what goes back historically in NYS to the beginning settlement days, all the way back to the original Dutch settlers, where ruling with an iron hand on controlling everything became the rule versus allowance of enterprise, all under the umbrella of “religious freedom”.As the years go forth, the state gets divided by where the major population centers around industry factories and agricultural and transportation centers. Naturally, NYC has the biggest population growth, and where the unions and Tammany Hall control who gets jobs and what companies get to profit. This bleeds into the political representatives who gain their positions and power by what they can do for their backers. In the more “liberal” areas the Democrats are in control, especially NYC, and upstate is more influenced by Republicans. With redistricting, changes can occur, maybe. NYS has to re-district out a congressional district before the 2022 elections because of the census results which only counted 56% of the total actual population. That uncounted 44% uses a bulk of the state-covered benefits. The main problem lies with the massive political machine, mainly hidden from public scrutiny, control of candidates allowed to run for office, select who is an elector, etc. There are vast sections of the upstate area, including those cities located there which offer opportunities for private enterprises to develop but dealing with the states’ regulations discourages most. Amazon didn’t develop the office complex, with the high-income jobs, it wanted to make in the Queens (NYC) area thanks to AOC, but it has developed numerous warehouse centers with just above minimum wage pay, depending on location. (They only pay $15/hour at the NYC locations, but over $20/hour in upstate NYS) I guess that is acceptable to AOC–more minimum wage jobs. Thanks to property values in certain overpriced areas, housing costs are extremely high and unaffordable, thanks to a massive exit from NYC of the ultra-rich liberals towards house ownership in small suburban towns. SALT taxes are extremely high, caused by the need to provide funds for certain requested services, which makes the defund police attitude laughably when crime comes right to their door. Unfortunately, we have State DA James who is more interested in her political career to realize the mess she is creating with her lawsuits and probes, without offering preventive methods to stop and eliminate crime of any kind. Only a few cities, without any help, (Yonkers, Greenburg, Mount Vernon are developing programs to help lower the crime on the street by working with the neighborhood directly, despite all the diversity of their populations. Slowly but surely the progressives are being told by the people who actually live in NYS, that change doesn’t involve just words and handouts, but involves actual actions and non-acceptance of criminal behavior.
At this point in NYS, we got one liberal out, we have quite a few more to remove starting with AOC and Schumer, plus we need to keep out of the power flux those progressives who are not for the people of NYS but for their own power play.

What we fellow NYers need to do is watch DA James’s political ambitions as she is using her position merely as a jumping place for another position, rather than achieve actually needed changes to how criminal prosecution is maintained.

Cuomo is New York State’s problem. As an outsider following news reports, it puzzles me why he has not already been ousted by the good citizens of that State. At some point I assume NY citizenry will see the folly of libtard Democrats being in charge of the State and vote accordingly. It is their choice as to how far they want to suffer political, economic, and social degradation.
