Washington, DC — Last Thursday, the Biden administration released a “framework” for a massive tax hike and spending bill with the goal of passing it this week. Those plans quickly fell apart when Democrats in both Houses began to question who had actually agreed to this framework. Speaker Pelosi has been forced to delay plans for floor action multiple times, and with no quick end in sight, negotiations may drag well into December.
AMAC Action President Bob Carlstrom said: “This week’s failed attempt to pass a 1700 page tax and spend bill with a liberal wish list of new programs included shows that Congress is hearing from their constituents back home including AMAC members, who are saying that the reckless spending and the proposed tax hikes are the wrong policies for America at the wrong time. As the economy remains on shaky footing, now is certainly not the time to handicap seniors and small businesses with more tax hikes and debt.”
As negotiations continue, AMAC Action is taking our members’ voices to the hill on issues from drug pricing to tax increases. Our action center has already helped members send hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress during this fall’s tax and spend negotiations. Given the President’s problematic poll numbers on jobs and the economy, along with data showing the economy continues to underperform, Democratic leaders may be in for a tougher winter legislatively than they had hoped for.
