Dear Representatives Neal and Brady,
On behalf of the more than 2.3 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens
(AMAC) across the country, I write to urge members to vote for the Securing a Strong
Retirement Act (HR 2954), commonly referred to as SECURE 2.0. The Securing a Strong
Retirement Act is a valuable example of bipartisan legislation that benefits seniors during
retirement.
The complexity of the American retirement system has made it difficult for mature adults to
reap the full benefits of retirement savings. This legislation takes significant steps to guarantee
secure savings with a few commonsense changes.
According to the House Committee on Ways and Means Republicans, the bill:
• Helps employees save for retirement earlier by automatically being enrolled in their
company’s 401(k) plan, while still having the option to opt-out.
• Allows greater flexibility for seniors to keep more of their savings for longer by raising
the required minimum distribution age to 75.
• Provides late-career workers the ability to contribute larger amounts to their retirement
savings from $5,000 a year to $10,000.
Ensuring our members have a smooth transition into retirement is a top priority for AMAC. This
legislation is dedicated to expanding opportunities for senior citizens to increase their
retirement savings with a less complicated system. We appreciate the bipartisan efforts in
working towards a solution to help preserve retirement savings for seniors.
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President
