S. 4185 provides patients with a responsive, fair and protective process by which surprise ambulance charges may be satisfactorily resolved.
August 26, 2020
The Honorable Roger Wicker
Senator from Mississippi
555 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Wicker:
On behalf of the 2.2 million members of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 22,000 residing in Mississippi — I write to offer our support for S. 4185, the “End Surprise Medical Bills for Air Ambulances Act of 2020.” AMAC and its members have been passionately involved in the effort to make healthcare in America as transparent as possible.
In requiring establishment of an independent dispute resolution arbitration process (“IDR process) for resolving balances of bills between a health plan or a health insurance issuer offering health insurance coverage and an out-of-network air ambulance provider, your bill provides patients with a responsive, fair, and protective process by which surprise and excessive ambulance charges can be satisfactorily resolved.
Thank you, Senator, for introducing this legislation to protect patients from surprise and excessive medical transport bills. AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for S 4185, the “End Surprise Medical Bills for Air Ambulances Act of 2020.”
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President,
AMAC Action
Medical procedures seem to be the only thing where you call to ask the price and often get told they don’t know. It will be on the bill.
