AMAC has long valued the contributions and sacrifices made by America’s men and women in uniform and is grateful to support this legislation that levels the playing field for veteran-owned small businesses.

The Honorable Bill Cassidy, M.D
US Senator, Louisiana
520 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Cassidy,
On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including the nearly 30,000 residing in Louisiana, I write to offer our support for S. 3282, the Protecting Business Opportunities for Veterans Act.
As an age 50+ organization comprised of many veterans, AMAC has long advocated for the well-being, be it physical or financial, of America’s men and women who have served our great nation. In fact, AMAC’s late founder, Dan Weber, served honorably in the Air Force for four years and also owned small businesses throughout his career.
AMAC is encouraged to see legislation like S. 3282 that supports veterans who own small businesses and also strives to reduce fraud within the Veterans Administration (VA). S. 3282 insists that veteran owned small businesses (VOSB), including those owned by veterans with service-related disabilities, certify compliance with rules to ensure that subcontracting constituting 50% or more of a VA-awarded contract must be with a VOSB classified as similarly situated, therefore limiting “pass-throughs” to larger subcontractors.
The certification favors small veteran-owned businesses, discourages any questionable “pass-throughs” and clarifies the subcontracting process. A similar bill, H.R. 561, passed in the House and we look forward to the Senate passing your legislation.
AMAC values the contributions and sacrifices made by America’s veterans and we thank you, Senator Cassidy, for working to level the playing field for them and preserving opportunities for them to earn a living. We are pleased to offer our organization’s full support for S. 3282, the Protecting Business Opportunities for Veterans Act.
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President
