This legislation acknowledges the challenge veterans face when leaving military life and improves outreach and assistance to veterans and their families. It also ensures that this outreach effort is followed-up with care to improve the lives of our brave volunteers who have completed their honorable service to our nation.

The Honorable Mike Levin
49th Congressional District of California
2352 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative Levin,
On behalf of the more than 2.1 million members of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens, including more than 4,300 residing in CA-49, we offer our continuing support for H.R. 984, the “Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act” as re-introduced on February 10th, 2023.
The struggle of transition from military to civilian culture is well documented. A common thread for servicemembers when leaving the military is the experience of disconnecting with the structure and stability that military culture provides. Often a profound sense of loneliness, of disenfranchisement, of uncertainty about the future, and bewilderment about managing all these transition challenges can be overwhelming. Many feel abandoned and, although our veterans are not helpless, they may not know how or where to turn for help.
Your bill acknowledges this challenge head on, and provides real, actionable solutions to connect with veterans who feel otherwise lost in the cold, especially ones in underserved communities. Not only will this bill, when it becomes law, “improve outreach and assistance” to veterans and their families, it will ensure that the outreach effort is followed-up with care to improve the lives of our brave volunteers who have completed their honorable service to our nation. It is notable that these bills include a measure of accountability assigned to the administrators charged with reaching out to our veterans, and that the authorized expenses are specific, such that the American taxpayer investment really does go where it is intended.
AMAC thanks you, Representative Levin, for your vision and strong leadership in advancing the Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act to provide for our national heroes.
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President

Transitioning our former troops back into civilian life is a must do.
For those Congressional Reps and American Citizens who want a war:sign up for boot camp, learn 24/7strict discipline, how to operateweapons, wade through jungle swamps, swallow desert sand, confront an enemy whose objective is to kill you.Your survival equipment might work or might not. Before going to Iraq War, soldiers were given standard issuebulletproof gear, which didn’t always achieve its intended purpose. A higher standard of bulletproof vests were made available ONLY IF THE SOLDIER PAID FOR IT (out of their low pay). So, a motorcycle rally fundraiser isheld to raise money for effective bulletproof gear. WHY ARE THE WAR-BOUND SOLDIERS PAYING FOR THEIR OWN GEAR THAT CAN SAVE THEIR LIVES?If you want a war, send YOUR family members. Then if you need help upon arriving home, you MIGHT get help, you might not! When you finally get an appointment at the VA, the attending employee is happy to have a paycheck but is lacking an attitude of service.Priorities? Congress fails to vote in necessary funding for our war veterans, but they allow $$$ millions in benefits for millions of ILLEGAL immigrants who didn’t earn it. If leaders of warring nations want awar, locate a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean, drop those leaders onto that island along with sufficient supplies, and let THEM DUKE IT OUT!May the best man (or woman) win!
everything else this guy stands for disqualifies my support. support of abortion is a very bad idea he agrees with. i’ll support vets through their great charities.
