A stack of papers with the label social security tax.

Eliminating taxes on Social Security is one of AMAC Action’s top priorities, as seniors should never have to pay taxes twice on the benefits they spent a lifetime earning.  This bill allows seniors to keep more of their hard-earned retirement income.

The Honorable Tommy Tuberville
United States Senator for Alabama
455 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Tuberville,

On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens, and our more than 2 million members, I write to express strong support for the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act, which will put an end to the unjust double taxation of Social Security benefits. Eliminating taxes on Social Security is one of AMAC Action’s top priorities, as seniors should never have to pay taxes twice on the benefits they spent a lifetime earning.

Social Security was designed to provide financial security for retirees, yet the federal government continues to penalize seniors by taxing their benefits a second time. With rising costs of living and record inflation, now is the time to eliminate this unfair tax and allow seniors to keep more of their hard-earned retirement income.

Before 1984, Social Security benefits were completely exempt from taxation, but Congress later imposed an income-based tax that disproportionately affects middle-class retirees. The Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act will restore fairness by ensuring that Social Security benefits are not counted as taxable income – a move that will immediately reduce tax burdens and increase retirement security for millions of older Americans.

We commend you for standing up for seniors and fighting for this long-overdue reform. AMAC Action is proud to support this legislation and urges Congress to swiftly pass the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act to ensure retirees can enjoy the full benefits they worked for without unnecessary government penalties.

Sincerely,
Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
Senior Vice President

What about taxing those proceeds that exceed provisional income at long term capital income tax rates? Nobody thought about that, did they?
