AMACThe Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) hinders Social Security benefits for many Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service. AMAC supports Congressman Kevin Brady’s (R TX-08) bill to eliminate them.

The Honorable Kevin Brady
Texas 8th Congressional District
1011 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Congressman Brady,

On behalf of the over 2.1 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), I write in support of the Equal Treatment of Public Servants Act of 2019, H.R. 3934. The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) hinders Social Security benefits for many Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service.

The WEP reduces Social Security benefits for a worker who receives a public pension. This is problematic for public service employees that work another job on the side, or for individuals who want to transition into a public service profession such as teaching. Both would receive reduced benefits even though they have already contributed money into the system. Educators, police officers, and firefighters should not be in the position for weaker benefits after they have already contributed to the Social Security fund for many years.

AMAC is pleased to offer our full support of this bipartisan legislation and stands behind you as you work to eliminate this unfair penalty for America’s public service employees.

Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President,
AMAC Action

Are you guys poorly informed or what? The bill is HR 82 and completely repeals the windfall provisions, unlike the bill you wrote to support that only covers 4 years. HR 82 has the support of 272 Congressmen and has the greatest chance of coming to a vote. Why does your organization not support HR82. This effects millions of seniors and you are on the wrong side, supporting the wrong bill. Read the two bills and then support the right one. Millions are watching, cancelling AARP memberships and looking for a like minded organization to join.

HR 82 Current year 2023 for full repeal of GPO and WEP. The old Brady Bill was a watered down nothing with zero support. In 2023, thus far, 301 House of Reps members cosigned on to this bill. Please sign on..and almost 50 Senators Co signed a companion bill in 2023.. We are fighting for full repeal for the hard working teachers, police and firefighters and other public workers who gave their all for not much.. Easy to back it…Fairness for paying into the system and FAIR spousal benefits that are equal to every other person even those that DID Nothing.
