Pressure to Pass the SAVE America Act Intensifies

After the Senate failed to advance legislation backed by President Donald Trump, congressional Republicans are moving to attach voter ID provisions to must-pass bills such as the National Defense Authorization Act and a reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

The SAVE America Act, authored by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, would require voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote and to show ID when casting ballots. The bill has passed the House twice this year but has stalled in the Senate.

“No more delays,” Roy wrote on X on Thursday. “No more excuses. No more math problems. Pass Rep. Roy’s SAVE America Act!”

Despite calls from Trump and support from many Republicans, and overwhelming public support for voter ID, the Senate has not taken up the measure. Lawmakers have also declined to eliminate the 60-vote threshold—known as the filibuster—which would allow the bill to pass with a simple majority.

During a Thursday press conference, Vice President JD Vance told Daily Signal White House Correspondent Elizabeth Mitchell that Senate leadership has been reluctant to pursue changes such as abolishing the filibuster, urging lawmakers instead to allow a vote.

“How many American senators know that the American people love the Save America Act because they believe in voter ID, but how many of those same senators don’t want to vote for it because they know that the radical elements within their own party would punish them for it?” Vance told the Daily Signal.

“One of the things that sometimes frustrates me about the legislative process is that people will go into it saying, ‘This isn’t possible, therefore we’re not even going to try.’ Well, let’s actually see. Let’s try it. And if it’s not possible, then let the people put their name on it.”

In response, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., pledged to pursue a strategy of attaching the SAVE America Act to must-pass legislation to force Senate action. That approach has been discussed in Republican circles as a pathway to enact the bill after it stalled as standalone legislation.

“This is why I will be offering an amendment to place it on the NDAA and if that fails, it will have to be on FISA,” Luna wrote on X, responding to a report that Republican senators were divided over advancing Trump’s agenda.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s office has disputed claims that Republicans are deliberately blocking the legislation.

In a separate post, Luna criticized the Senate’s handling of the bill.

“The Senate has openly declared disdain for the American people,” she wrote. “The House must place the SAVE America Act on the NDAA. If this fails, then it must go on FISA.”

Trump has also weighed in, signaling he would oppose moving forward with surveillance legislation absent election reforms.

“For the good of the nation, and for the people of our country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday, he would not support a FISA bill without inclusion of the SAVE America Act. Luna responded, “No Save America. No FISA.”

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., echoed that position, saying he supports tying the legislation to must-pass measures.

“I’m 100% with @POTUS,” Tuberville wrote on social media. “Any FISA extensions MUST include the SAVE America Act.”

He later added that the Senate should halt other legislative action until the measure is passed.

“The Senate shouldn’t be doing ANYTHING until we pass the SAVE America Act,” Tuberville wrote. “Election security is the NUMBER ONE issue leading up to the midterms.”

It’s very obvious that anyone that opposes the save America act actively cheats in elections. I don’t care how they frame it, it means that they cheat, and they know that they can never win if they not allowed to cheat.

Both political parties seem to be composed of people who have complete and total disdain for the American citizen. Time to fire all of them. I’d like it to be literal, but just getting these anti-American liars out of office will have to suffice. I don’t know who the political class works for, but it sure isn’t us.

It is a shame that the Senate can’t get its act together especially the Democrats and RINOs. The Democrats would lose a lot of false votes in an election, provided that the “BLUE” states would properly clean their voter rosters. Vote for those candidates who will represent the people and not the “party”. I am not going to hold my breath for any real action out of the Senate.

They’ve been vegetating for years and years, undisturbed, suddenly we expect action, responsibility and accountability, who are we kidding, they are safe and know it, we are the idiots for not heaping the dead wood on the fire long ago. Those atrophied brains only work for themselves, stripping them of their positions and possessions ,would serve them right, that would wake them up’

The US Senate should pass the SAVE Act. Their bipartisan refusal to even bring it to a vote is disgraceful, but then the US Senate is, and has long been, a disgrace. Its members usually conspire to promote the elitist Progressive agenda rather than reflect their constituents’ interests. So, REPEAL THE XVII AMENDMENT! Let’s go back to the State Senates electing the Senators from their state. Accountability and experience matter. State sovereignty is a protection of liberty the Framers of the Constitution created, that was eliminated in the name of “democracy.” The Framers rightly feared democracy and also feared centralization of power. Separation of powers, checks and balances, are essential to freedom. The Framers wanted the US Senate to represent the states, not just be “the world’s greatest debating society.”

Praise for Anna Paulina Luna – she speaks with courage, strength and wisdom.. Those are now and always will be great qualities to have. The right to the point approach is what is needed with the Save America Act.

Here in Nevada the congress persons and senators get emails everyday with request to pass the save act and they won’t do it no matter what the people of Nevada want. The Nevada republican women are pushing hard to get republicans in this election that will vote for the save act and get rid of the democrat socialist persons, which we have 3 of the 4 congress people. The woman in District 1 in southern Nevada has been there since the civil war, because acts like it.

Was this always planned as a way to force reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act? FISA was always a back door way to spy on Americans, of course in the name of national security! Now they want to attach SAVE to FISA! ????

I think they should pass SAVE as a stand-alone, then fire the senators who refuse to vote “yay.”

The voter corruption for decades in Chicago, and Illinois would turn this state red if the SAVE AMERICA ACT was passed. Pritzker and Johnson would not stand a chance and they know it. 80% of Americans approve of passing this bill. We the People have spoken. This bill has to be passed.

Amazing that so many politicians refuse to acknowledge and promote such basic voting protection. More amazing is the number of Republican politicians that vote against it. This one issue is sufficient to vote them out!

If it isn’t passed, the Rats will surely steal power again, and this time they will make very sure they never lose it. They will be far worse than the CCP, North Korea’s Kim, or the Iranian islamists.

What else is in the SAVE act besides just requiring an ID? The bill contains more than that so let us see a breakdown of this. And Trump has said this week he will not sign this unless FISA bill is also attached. Let the Legislative branch do their job and quit making everything a partisan issue. I THINK THAT MIDTERM ELECTION WILL REMEMBER THINGS LIKE THIS.

I am currently registered as a Republican, but have voted for Democratic candidates on occasions, but will never vote for anyone who opposes the SAVE America Act. Honesty and Integrity are key factors for anyone in or running for a leadership or governing position. Please tell me what is wrong with proving you are a US Citizen in order to Register to Vote and then showing an acceptable ID in order to actually vote.

Our Alaskan republican senator Lisa Murkowski of course was one of the 4 republicans who voted against the SAVE act, as it was one of Trumps top priorities. Lisa has fought Trump at every turn because she is afflicted with TDS. In my humble opinion she is nothing more than a communist, right in line with all the other socialist blowhards in the democrat congress. She is one of Americas most well recognized RINOs. She is a disgusting old hag and has demonstrated an insidious betrayal to her constituency. We simply cannot wait to vote her out in 28, should she have the arrogance to even think about another 6 year term.
