Public Schools – Indoctrination or Education

For many years, I have written on the decline in US education. Not alone, the 2025 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), last year, reported a shocking lack of recovery in scores for young Americans since COVID shutdowns. Less talked about the rise of indoctrination.

School time is a tradeoff. Using time to push ideological ideas produces an “opportunity cost,” a loss of that time to educate. From California to Maine, we are failing our children. Democrat states are normalizing ideological indoctrination, emotionalism, abnormal behaviors, under-performance, no consequences for classroom disruption, no deterrence, and failure as an acceptable outcome.

Unlike much of the world – and unlike former US performance – this trend is fundamentally debilitating for students who miss their one chance to learn life skills in a school setting, getting on track for success. It robs them of lifetime success and starts an intergenerational cycle of failure.

Put differently, a child who cannot understand the world around them, cannot read, and do math will fail in life. The data is overwhelming. They will fail in relationships, securing a job, owning a home, raising a family, and developing fully. They will revert to crime, drugs, depression, and desperation.

In effect, the choices they have are amputated. When those choices are replaced by false, ideological, collectivist, atheist, and activist ideas; when simplification is pushed over critical thinking; when pressure to conform via mechanized non-thought is taught, they invariably fail.

Alexander Sozelitzen – a brilliant “critical thinker” and writer – described it in the Soviet Union. He was first indoctrinated, then realized what independent thought was, began questioning and debating ideas, sought truth through critical thinking, and then shed indoctrination for education.

As he described the Soviet process, now in US public education, he had not been taught how to reason, read widely, do math, write, had lost biology, chemistry, physics, established history, critical thought, and moral character – right from wrong. They were displaced by indoctrination.

That process began early and, as other writers confirm, involves “implanting” these ideas, then pushing “simplification” (not critical thinking), and “mechanization” of the process. From the former Soviet Union to China, this is used to dumb down, enforce conformity, and tame the youth.

Parallel ideas, beyond communist ideology, include reduced expectations for individual accomplishment, under-educating to control, punishing independent thought, denying morality, pushing relativism and activism (hostility toward individuality), favoring group, tribe, or racial division, denying fundamental rights or natural law, expanding the idea to absurdity (thus making rights meaningless), taking rights from parents, and criminalizing traditional individual rights.

The process is insidious and intentional, but can also break into the open and become obvious. As underperformance, irrational and emotional behaviors replace reason and independent thought; as individual rights are subordinated to groupthink, group rights, and group division – the concepts on which communism thrives – people either lose control of their lives, or wake up and retake control.

Solzhenitsyn argued that individuals – all of us, if we love freedom, morality, and what is good for families and a free society – must wake up and think for ourselves. This is also needed now.

Coming back to schools, this means our success as individuals, families, and a self-governing society depends – as Heritage contends – on rediscovering real and “liberal education,” which used to mean morally grounded, disciplined, reasoned, and rigorous education, and how to think.

Only by regaining this understanding that curiosity, questioning, independent thought, and learning are good, that we do it individually and within families to seek the truth, do we survive as free people. Only by aspiring to think harder, work together to find the truth, do we mature into the people we need to be for liberty. Only by looking hard do we understand math, science, history, and God.

That is not where Democrat-run public schools are going. They are going in the opposite direction, denying facts, indulging fictions, dumbing down, and amputating opportunities for young people to think independently, objectively, not rewarding curiosity and hard work but discouraging it.

Heritage recently wrote: “While it is crucial for schools to refrain from pushing propaganda on children, American parents, citizens, and lawmakers concerned about indoctrination must also seek out an education for children that sharpens their intellects through engagement with ‘the best that has been thought and said in the world,’ thus preparing them to think independently, pursue truth honestly, and exercise citizenship responsibly.”

I would like to add something to that, but cannot. That last paragraph says it all. We either understand we are facing ruination by indoctrination, or we save our kids by education. There is no middle way. We either submit to mass indoctrination, or we seek truth, reclaim public education.

Undoing the tremendous destruction upon the children in public schools, by the leftists is a colossal endeavor. Thankfully there are many private schools scattered around the country to educate enough of the population in order to preserve our liberty. “In the beginning, God…”. That’s a good place to start.

While there are still a number of good public schools in the U.S. especially in red states, about the only way to get your child educated properly is to move them to a parochial school, a charter school or home schooling. Parents need to be aware to what is going on in the schools their kids attend and they are the best line of defense to protect their kids from the constant indoctrination from the radical liberals. If you children attend good schools in K thru high school, they can probably withstand the brain-washing in college. What the Democrat/Communists are doing to our kids in public schools is exactly the way ALL Communists states began..with the very young and vulnerable. Parents need to teach their kids what is right for country and get them into church and Sunday school!

Keeping in mind the idea of stability – The education system that has regard for God, mathematics, science , history will be stable . Getting to the root of the subjects that encourage stability one can see,can understand how many things are influenced by certain basic facts that were established centuries ago. There is no need for constant change – unless it enhances established facts. The English language and English rules of grammar should be included in the list of things that are fundamental to good education. The Internet version of the English language can cause poor communication and clear intelligent communication is vital in every endeavor. The history of the English language shows how it developed over several Centuries Stability in education is just as important as stability on a ship or aircraft.. The idea of being on solid ground can be felt and truth is part of that stability, that being on solid ground is all about. Good work RBC this article is appreciated

The taking over of the education system by the Left, (atheists, communists, fascists, etc.) has long been in the works. It started slowly in the 60’s and grew over the decades, since. The teacher unions have been at the heart of it.

Public Schools were controlled by Labor Unions. (Especially in NYC.NY Schools) You can blame the poor grades of Public school kids on their Union Teachers! Also all the Illegal Aliens in Schools not speaking English.

The truth goes beyond education, reflecting broader ideologies. We are interconnected as energy, not separate entities. Control-seeking individuals require systems with checks and balances, clear terms, and accountability for failures. Our children’s well-being is at stake, and each state must take responsibility. We are losing ground. Each state is responsible.

Radical, far left-wing socialists, even communists, have infiltrated, and in many cases taken over America’s public schools from K-12, and colleges and universities across the country. They have gone from TEACHING the important subjects of reading, writhing, math, science, and life skills, and shoved them aside for their well planned INDOCTRINATION for classes in DEI, LBGTQ+ BS (aka Sexual perversion- Female mutilation and Male chemical castration). They brainwash children into to thinking that Capitalism is evil, Socialism and Communism are good. And that we should defund the police, keep our borders wide open with no restrictions, that America is racist, and so many more evil and dangerous lies.

Many Communist leaders of the past have said ‘We will never defeat America militarily. They are too strong. However, we can defeat them if we: 1. Infiltrate, take over and control the press (thy have almost accomplished this). 2. Infiltrate, take over and control America’s education system (They have almost accomplished this too). 3. Disarm the citizens. (And for the past 75-years every America-hating Democrat politician and their socialist-Commie activist followers have been attacking and doing their best to change, limit and abolish the Second Amendment. And their efforts have doubled, tripled, even quadrupled to abolish the “Right to Bear Arms.

Radical left-wing, socialist commies (including the fake News medias) are truly and without question, America’s ENEMIES WITHIN.

Our family is very into Home schooling & has been for many years. Today’s schools, in many areas, cannot be trusted not to attempt to brainwash our children in Socialism. We recognized this when it first started & decided not to participate in their propaganda. We are part of a large group that also plans activities so that the students can socialize & not be robbed of that special part of education. It is very sad that school districts still choose this liberal method of teaching. There are Teachers who have taken a stand & will not teach the liberal agenda. May God bless them! Too many parents are ‘uninvolved in their children’s education. Please be aware & participate at all levels. You cannot assume they are getting a decent education. Check it out, please, for their sake!

By simply asking the question shows just how far the indoctrination has gone.
