Who are America’s public universities really for? A growing backlash argues that domestic students—many with near-perfect test scores—are being edged out in favor of full-pay international enrollments.
Steve Cortes’ new documentary, “The Foreign Student Crisis Destroying American College Admissions,” focuses on the University of Illinois, where more than 6,000 Chinese nationals are enrolled at this publicly funded, land-grant school.
Cortes emphasizes that his concern is not about race, but about citizenship.
Stanley Zhong, an Asian American student, experienced the effects firsthand. “He had near-perfect SAT scores, 1,590 out of 1,600, and a 3.97 GPA at a highly prestigious Palo Alto High School,” Cortes said. He applied to UCLA, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Illinois and was rejected by all three schools. Later, Zhong was hired as a Google engineer.
Cortes poses the question, “What level of untapped talent exists in this country that a combination of DEI and immigration have basically cut out of the loop?”
He is not only concerned about education for American citizens, but also about national security.
He calls the influx of Chinese students “organized infiltration backed by a hostile regime masked as education,” and explained that there have been three students at the University of Michigan caught smuggling agricultural bioweapons and a Chinese engineering student at Illinois Tech convicted of espionage after being recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security.
Marsha McClary is an Illinois native and a mother of five. She explained her frustration both as a taxpayer and as a mother. “A lot of our students cannot get into U of I … and then they have to go out of state and pay higher tuition.”
She continued by saying, “We’re paying a lot of taxes into the university system in the state, and we should be able to take advantage of that as a priority for our students.”
Stephen Kleinschmit, a professor at Northwestern University, explained how many foreign students come to the university with questionable credentials and are unable to speak English.
Many of the applications are careless; applicants sometimes leave the wrong university name on their cover letters or indicate they don’t understand the program they’re applying to.
Kleinschmit also warned of “institutionalized corruption” involving bribing test proctors and even the government itself.
Cortes ended his documentary by giving his solution to the matter: “The total number of foreign students must be capped. One or 2% of total enrollment seems perfectly sensible. The total number of Chinese nationals should be zero, none. Not welcome here. United States schools for United States citizens.”

Seems like all of our liberal organizations in the U.S. treat everyone from outside the country better than the citizens from who they get much of their funding. Why do so many things these liberal traitors are so great? We need to stop their funding whenever their purpose is against the U.S. which is nearly always.
It’s time to STOP educating Chinese & other Foreign Nationals, and focus on American Students. Colleges have become more interested in filling up their Bank accounts than in educating OUR children. It doesn’t seem to matter to them that the students they educate are feeding vital information (this hasn’t happened been proven) back to the Communist Chinese Government. Put it plainly, they are Spies…at our expense! This is outrageous!
Of course. They pay more, and also bribe, defraud, blackmail, threaten, cancel, kidnap, torture, and murder. In other words, they are exactly like their DemocRat Party allies.
imo
Find a way to cut PUBLIC funds from these universities.
The universities primary concern is money. That outweighs all else. Secondarily is pushing a leftist worldview. If they can get both by brining in foreign students with cash in hand from communist-leaning countries, all the better.
China is an enemy nation and known to steal technology and industrial secrets. We need to keep Chinese out of America and its universities. As to foreign students in general a cap of 1% of the total student enrollment seems like a good idea. Students in the top 1/4 of their class should be guaranteed admission to their state universities. Out of state and foreign students should only be allowed as fillers of empty desks and dormitory beds.
Makes no sense to rid immigrants and then allow them into America universities. Ridiculous!
This has been going on for over 25 years. My Son graduated in the top 1% in the nation. Not in the state of Ca. In the nation. High GPA, high SAT n Act. The UC’s in Calif original charters, stated the UC’s were developed for the top 3% of California Students.
California Taxpayers built and paid billions for the UC’s in Calif. What did we get. In 2001 when my Son was applying for these schools. Nearly, 25% of incoming Freshman’s were foreign students. And, no they were not genius from around the world. What they are, is the same thing they are today. Rich kids, from around the world, that pay triple of a Resident Calif student tuition. This has been going on for years. It’s disgusting and should be illegal. Why are Americans paying to “educate,” the world.
It’s bad enough we pay to educate illegals, now our best and brightest don’t even get into the Universities that were built and maintained by American taxpayers.
Colleges are not getting passing grades for their actions, but what can you expect these days of our Institutions Of Higher Indoctrination? Or is that Higher Learing for the Somalia students?
I would like to see someone follow the money on this. How many billions more do these schools gain with foreign students over citizens? Just a question…..
Simple solution, all qualified Americans should get first available slots. Once all qualified American students are registered – registration ends. Universities who do not get any, as in zero, funds from the Federal or State government can enroll who ever they want. But no, as in zero, funds from the Federal or State will be paid to that University for anything, to include grants for anything. America First.
My granddaughter graduated from N. Arizona U. this past December. I couldn’t help to notice that the graduating class was about 90% non-white.
Yes-and it all comes down to greed by the universities.
has been going on for some time
the taxpayer ALLOWS this
Another example what is taught at these colleges–hw to be an influencer and scam others
In many cases these
