On September 12, 1962, President John F. Kennedy delivered one of the most stirring speeches of his presidency — the now‑legendary “We choose to go to the Moon” address — before a crowd of approximately 35,000 to 40,000 people at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas. This address was a defining moment in the Space Race, galvanizing public support for his ambitious goal: landing a man on the Moon before the decade’s end.
Kennedy’s speech was more than a policy proposal — it was a powerful act of visioning. Drawing on Rice’s pioneer spirit and engineering strengths, he asked:
