Mamdani Threat Worse Than Believed

A Florida trade group is using what it calls “the unacceptable risk” of a Zohran Mamdani mayoralty to entice Big Apple CEOs into moving their firms and families to the Sunshine State.

Smart marketing: Business leaders are already doing the Mamdani math — adding up the massive costs of his promised public spending on universal child care, transportation and other freebies.

A Mayor Mamdani will either raise New York’s already high taxes to pay for all these goodies, or his reckless spending will plunge the city into fiscal chaos, leading to draconian austerity measures like cuts to police and garbage collection.

Disastrous either way.

Aren’t there legal guardrails to limit what an irresponsible New York City mayor — even a crazed socialist one — can do?

For half a century, ever since Gotham’s financial debacle in 1975, New Yorkers have taken comfort in knowing that a state-run financial control board is in place to prevent the city from ever again plunging into financial chaos.

But that’s more a myth than a reality: The guardrails have turned into tissue paper under New York’s one-party, increasingly leftist rule.

In 1975, overspending and an economic slump put New York City on the brink of bankruptcy. Banks would no longer underwrite the city’s debt.

The state stepped in, creating the seven-member New York State Financial Control Board — made up of the NYC mayor, the governor, the state and city comptrollers, and three additional members chosen by the governor — to right the ship.

Until 1986, this powerful board controlled the city’s budget, union contracts and borrowing, no matter who occupied City Hall.

Since then, the FCB has been in hibernation but legally poised to reactivate if the city spends more than it takes in, or fails to pay its debts — likely scenarios under a Mayor Mamdani.

Here’s the hitch: Reactivating the FCB requires the consent of the state legislature.

Good luck with that.

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and her powerful No. 2, state Sen. Michael Gianaris, both Democrats, have allied with the hard left for years. Both now endorse Mamdani.

Don’t count on them to defy Mamdani and put the city’s financial management in safer hands. Few Democratic pols in the state are showing the backbone to speak a word against Mamdani even now, before he’s actually been elected.

And don’t expect the City Council, almost entirely dominated by leftist loons, to resist Mamdani’s excessive spending.

Last month the Council pushed current Mayor Eric Adams to accept a record-setting $116 billion budget, bloated with new services for illegal immigrants and a pilot program for universal child care starting at birth.

Is there a firewall against the huge tax hikes required to fund Mamdani’s utopian wish list? Depends on what type of taxes.

Mamdani says he plans to raise the city’s corporate tax rate to 11.5% to bring in $5 billion. He also wants to slap an additional 2% on the income tax rate paid by individuals earning more than $1 million a year, collecting another $4 billion.

Only the state legislature can impose those tax increases, and Gov. Kathy Hochul says she won’t sign any such hikes into law — a vow that’s likely good until the next statewide election, in November 2026.

But after that, New Yorkers could be in big trouble if a solidly blue state government approves new taxes to fund Mamdani’s wild ideas.

Property taxes are another matter and a looming threat. Get ready to pay up big time, whether or not you own your home.

A socialist mayor will go where the money is. Real estate taxes brought in $37 billion last year, nearly half of all city revenues — and the mayor and City Council largely control property tax levies.

New York City is exempt from the property tax cap imposed on most parts of the state. For Gothamites, state law only puts a lid on annual increases in assessed real estate values, limiting them to 6% a year for large properties and 8% for smaller ones.

That’s not enough protection against a cash-hungry spendaholic mayor.

Property tax hikes impact not only building owners but residents of co-ops and condos — and many renters too, when landlords pass the tax increase along.

So much for Zohran’s “affordability” blather.

Here’s the clincher: Mamdani is promising to increase assessments in what he calls “richer and whiter” neighborhoods, claiming property valuations there haven’t kept up with the rising real estate market.

If you live in Manhattan or Brooklyn, get ready to be socked with higher taxes — and possibly see your home’s resale value drop as a result.

In a one-party city and a nearly one-party state, there are few safeguards against the maniacal vision of Mamdani.

We have just one defense: electing someone else.

If the people in NYC are stupid enough to elect this idiot, they deserve what they get. If you still live in NYC and have not gotten smart enough to get the hell out of that whole state, it’s time to go now. If you stay, you’re in the same category. I do not understand why anybody wants to live in that city. Been there twice, and I know I would never live in such a place.

After reading this article it begs to bring back the thoughts of the articles Robert Charles writes about Maine and how one party (Democratic) rule over the years there is destroying that state and it appears this is going to be the same for NYC if this guy gets elected. But I shouldn’t leave out NY state for the people there continuously elect a democratic governor.

New York should return their copy of the Declaration of Independence to Philadelphia and petition to leave the U. S. The majority of the people in New York do not share American values. Maybe we can trade New York to Canada for Alberta? Trade all of New England for Manitoba? Just a suggestion.

Please…mamdani is nothing but an old school communist, parading around in a pink tutu, telling people he’s a “democratic” socialist…LOL There is no such thing as a “democratic” socialist. There is nothing democratic about socialism, and everything this cretin is spouting off was implemented by the Soviet Union, and they started dismantling it all in 1999. If you think NYC is bad now, go ahead and elect this guy as mayor. You’ll see what bad truly is.

NYC residents have the “left wing loon” Council BECAUSE THE VOTERS VOTED THEM into city office. Albany is controlled by “left wing loons” BECAUSE THE VOTERS VOTED THEM into state offices. The theme…NYC Residents and NY state residents have EXACTLY THE GOVT THEY WANT. That is why I could care less about them and the mess they made themselves.

Get ready for “Escape From New York”. And I mean New York City being walled and turned into a prison, like the movie. I think Mamdani will be elected. That may be the beginning of the end for New York City, maybe for the entire state.

Voters of every district and precinct in the U.S. had best begin paying strict attention to the ideologies, philosophies, education and training of the people who constantly campaign for high public office. Very few these days are concerned about actually representing the people of the political divisions in which they compete. Rather, they are activists with a personal agenda to create conformity to their particular ideas and intentions. If they want Sharia to be imposed upon them, or to become a significant factor where none existed before, elect people like this person.

Think about it, they would have to move the finance capital of the world out of New York? All those millionaires that own apartments in New York would have to sell and how many buyers would there be? Landlords with apartment building get stuck with rent control and then THEY can’t sell their properties either? This guy being elected would upend New York and I would HOPE that the voters do NOT fall for this!! Unfortunately I don’t see Sliwa winning.

There are plenty of red states that will welcome these businesses that will escape New York City and this Islamic communist mayor-to-be. But PLEASE leave the United Nations in New York City.

There is actually a GOP candidate as well. His name is Silwa. Why doesn’t the media that is NOT run by our evil, radical liberals…like Fox, interview him and let the people know there is a choice and he is not a Communist? If the Jewish community continues to vote for the radical liberals, this Commie nut-job may actually win.

I can’t believe that people are so sick of AMERICA that they would vote for these far out”LOONY LEFTISTS”,but then, look at Chicago and what they elected. Most of Illinois and many people not in Chicago or New York city would look at these two entities and many more as total disasters.

Can anyone explain why the predominately Jewish population of New York keep voting blue. Not just there but in California and other states? It can not be Trump Derangement Syndrome as no one with an IQ over 40 would vote to disanfrancise themselves by high taxes: make criminals your warlords: give free everything to illegals; bankrupt your selves… all to keep one with middfle of the road approach…Eric Adams in power?

If Mamdani wins it will be worse than 1975 for New Yorkers. With all of Mamdani’s attacks against the Trump administration it is likely Trump would go the route Gerald Ford did and not bail out the city. If Mamdani wins it will be the end of New York City.

  1. America is truly reaching a level of absurdity that is indescribable! The Rats are taking over in spite of all proof of the absurdity of the paths they follow! It has never been more important than it is now to vote Republican! The evidence is screaming of the absurdity of adopting any sort of Islamic influence. Naturally, it is the blue cities working to destroy American independence! https://ibaconi.com/2024/09/03/cruel-and-evil/
