Democrat Minnesota State Rep. Kaohly Vang Her claimed Monday that she was in the United States illegally and has remained in the country illegally since her family fled the Vietnam War. Although Her later alleged that both she and her parents are now citizens, her comments drew criticism for misrepresenting her immigration status and muddying the debate over taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens.
Her’s comments came after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called a special session of the legislature on Monday to debate a bill that would make illegal aliens ineligible for the state’s Medicaid program. During the debate over the legislation, Her claimed that her father worked for a U.S. consulate in Vietnam and was responsible for processing refugee paperwork. Despite her father’s position, Her’s family missed three opportunities to come to the U.S.
She then explained how her father broke the law to finally get them into the country.
“What my father did was, one of our uncles worked for USAID, and because his mother had died, my father, as the one processing the paperwork, put my grandmother down as his mother,” she said. “And so, I am illegal in this country. My parents are illegal here in this country.”
Her told this story of her father breaking the law in an attempt to garner sympathy from Republicans in the Minnesota Legislature for illegal aliens.
In an interview later that day with the Minnesota Reformer, Her partially backtracked the story and claimed that she and her family were legal residents of the U.S.
The Minnesota Reformer reported that Her’s father still “technically broke the law when he filled out paperwork for the family to come to the U.S. as refugees” in an attempt to “expedite the process to come to the U.S.” Potential refugees were processed quicker “if they had family connections to the military, CIA or USAID.”
When Her explained that her “uncle” had worked for USAID, she was referring to a “family friend” not actually related to her family. Her’s father reportedly lied in his paperwork by claiming to have a familial connection to this family friend.
The legislation to prohibit illegal aliens from having access to the state’s Medicaid program passed both the state House and Senate with help from some Democrats. Walz has promised to sign the legislation into law, which is expected to save the state $57 million over the course of two years – just the latest admission from Democrats that the math doesn’t work on taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens.
The Minnesota State House is split evenly between Republicans and Democrats with 67 seats each. If Democrats lose one seat, Republicans will be in the majority. If Her’s claim that her father broke the law to move to the U.S. is investigated, Democrats could lose a seat if she is determined ineligible to hold office.
Republicans and conservative influencers have called for the Trump administration to take action against Her’s family for potentially committing immigration fraud. Social media personality Bo Loudon called for the administration to “deport, deport, deport.” Chaya Raichik of Libs of TikTok stated on X that Her “is here illegally,” “ran for office despite not being a U.S. citizen,” and “voted in our elections.” She called for Her to be “arrested and deported.”

Well, I say, Lets take Ms. Vang Her at her word. Deportation time Ms. Vang Her. You may really like Viet Nam now that it is a communist country. I’m sure it fits right into your left wing ideology as so many of your colleagues in the Dem. party. Please Mr. Tom Homan, get here butt and send her home. She doesn’t belong here.
To debate a bill which would make illegal alien ineligible for Medicaid benefits? Does that mean that right now they are unless the bill stops it? Who is responsible for this fraud, how much more can taxpayer bear, where is his justice?
You can’t be living in the country illegally and also a citizen of the country you are living in illegally.
People in the country illegally should have never gotten any government benefits to start with any they are getting need to be stripped as they are NOT citizens they are illegal invaders.
How about Ilhan Omar, she committed fraud in her immigration application? When can she be deported?
Wow. The lies just keep coming from Minnesota lawmakers.
Just doesn’t stop
Well throw this trash out, when is this country gonna wake up and grow some gonads!!???
I am not familiar with the laws of Minnesota, but at what point do you need to be a legal citizen to serve in a political office, and to vote? You can not run for president without being a naturalized citizen, born in America. (Without having the democrats behind you cheating and lying and allowing a forged birth certificate to be accepted Barrack Obama …) but it is illegal. For state politics, can you be a legal immigrant? Do you have to go through the process of becoming a citizen? In which case if the claim is true … she needs a boat back to Vietnam.
Send ice in to arrest her and deport her!!
Deport them immediately!
Deport HER, no pun intended!
DEPORT THIS ILLEGAL ALIEN DEMOCRAT!!!!!
I don’t see why she would lie about this. Send her back, but the Minnesota Democrat Party needs to also be investigates for helping her run.
One way ticket – gone, now!
I hope Tom and Kristi are on their way, shackles at the ready….
This example of our countries laws being broken is probably more common than known.
In the state where “Her” resides, Ilhan Omar resides also.
I feel pretty confident that Omar broke more laws, and still is if you note how prevalent fraud, is in Minnesota with mainly Somali.
It sounds like “Her” has had steady work, embraced America- but Omar and her native people who’ve moved have not.
Separately, “Her” has admitted the fraud her family committed to be able to escape Vietnam.
The law doesn’t know, you either broke laws or you didn’t.
I just wonder if consideration isn’t warranted to look at all the circumstances and work with that, and the current laws to rule what is appropriate in the problems surrounding status.
Deport her
That is how Careless Immigration Service is handling Cases? No Surprise Millions
are enjoying their ‘Get-away’ and laugh at America.
“What my father did was, one of our uncles worked for USAID, and because his mother had died, my father, as the one processing the paperwork, put my grandmother down as his mother,” she said. “And so, I am illegal in this country. My parents are illegal here in this country.” Really???
I think there needs to be an immediate investigation into Ms Vang and her family to get to the truth of this matter. If what she says is true, then they committed fraud, which negates their citizenship and eligibility to be in the USA. They must be deported, immediately, and she must be removed from office and deported right along with them.
ICE needs to deport him. TODAY!
Why does this article repeatedly have the word ‘her’ instead of she?
With our military spending one trillion dollars behind where it needs to be and entitlement spending is at a full 80% of our total tax intake, something seriously needs looking into!
Maybe her present position should be suspended without pay pending an investigation into he own story
Cry harder, comrade!!
