President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Thursday night cutting all federal funding to National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Both public broadcasting organizations, which are supposed to remain nonpartisan, have received criticism for blatant liberal bias and malicious attacks against conservatives.
NPR and PBS receive both federal and private funding. The executive order only targets the federal funding that the entities receive through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which was originally created when Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. Trump’s executive order instructs the CPB to “cease direct funding to NPR and PBS, consistent with my Administration’s policy to ensure that Federal funding does not support biased and partisan news coverage.”
CPB, which received $535 million for fiscal year 2025, will cancel current funding that NPR and PBS receive as well as decline to provide future funding.
Trump explained in his executive order that tax dollars should only fund “fair, accurate, unbiased, and nonpartisan news coverage” and that “no media outlet has a constitutional right to taxpayer subsidies.” He cites law that the CPB may not “contribute to or otherwise support any political party.”
“The CPB fails to abide by these principles to the extent it subsidizes NPR and PBS,” he said. “Which viewpoints NPR and PBS promote does not matter. What does matter is that neither entity presents a fair, accurate, or unbiased portrayal of current events to taxpaying citizens.”
The White House shared examples of biased reporting and news coverage from NPR and PBS on X. In the past few years, NPR published stories that called cannibalism “perfectly natural,” stated the Declaration of Independence was a document with “flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies,” and promoted “queer animals” with the idea that “some deer are nonbinary.”
Examples of biased coverage from PBS included the broadcaster showing a children’s program that featured a drag queen, hosting a panel on what it “mean[s] to be woke” and “white privilege,” and accusing Trump of “white resentment.”
The president is also instructing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to ensure that both broadcasters are complying with the statutory mandate that “no person shall be subjected to discrimination in employment… on the grounds of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex.” If the broadcasters are not compliant, Kennedy will take the “appropriate corrective action.”

This is beyond long overdue. I remember when our local NPR station’s programming consisted mostly of arts, entertainment, and music. It was a great way to listen to classical and jazz. PBS was similarly focused on the arts. Both outlets have become far left wing propaganda machines, and I cannot remember the last time I bothered to stop at either station. Planned Parenthood should undoubtedly be next, and I am keeping my hopes up that it happens soon. I have a strong aversion to having my tax dollars go to people who hate me.

“Public” outlets should be NEUTRAL and present both sides of issues. These 2 “news” stations are always totally one sided even in documentaries and entertainment programs. During begging week they might actually run some decent programming. DIMMs are schizophrenic on this defunding. On one hand they say the tax money used is minimal but then say that the outlets will fail if they don’t keep receiving taxpayer funds!
Bravo president Trump. None is more biased in their reporting than the dem propaganda outlet like PBS and NPR. Like MSM outlets they are the American Pravda. And since president Trump has been elected again by a landslide margin they have increased their one sided reporting. It’s time we tax payers stop paying for their woke propaganda. The division they create is destroying our country. Like VP JD Vance said the destruction of the world comes from within. And PBS and NPR are their propaganda outlets.
I’d prefer that the executive order simply states that neither system should be tax[payer funded, nor should the National council of the arts. These are worthy endeavors but should be supported by individuals not taxpayers.
All well and good, however, some Lefty activist “judge” will block it.
Congress needs to get off its do nothing and legitimize these EOs.

I remember WAY back when….when Mitch Romney during his campaign said he would defund PBS’ Sesame Street and the left went ballistic without even investigating the fact that Sesame Street made millions selling its characters products and so on, and didn’t need federal funding. That may have contributed somewhat to his loss as well. I traveled quite a bit years ago and even then it was a left-wing mascot of the democrat party and when obama was in office it couldn’t say enough good about every evil thing he did. It’s WAY past time for this move. Thank you President Trump for common sense moves.

Finally!! I listen to NPR on the weekends just to know what the enemy is up to. About the only show that doesn’t seem to be liberal is The Hidden Brain. The rest? Blatantly liberal. I can’t wait to listen tomorrow! ????????

Regardless of politics, NPR and PBS get less than 20% of their funding from the federal government, and can get along just fine without it. More important, the reason both were formed no longer exists.

With my eyesight giving me problems, when I read the headline in the newsletter, I thought it said Trump defends NPR & PBS. I thought Oh My Gosh!! This has got to be a weird article!
Finally! These two have been going Leftward for many years and always begging for money from their viewers. DOGE rules!
At the hearing, it was noted that there were 87 (from my memory) registered Democrats and zero registered Republicans. It would be hard to defend as an unbiased group of broadcasters.
