Are Driver’s Licenses for Illegals the ‘Prelude to a Kiss’ of Death for Our Democracy?

WASHINGTON, DC, June 13 — Surely, requiring motorists to have driver’s licenses make our roads safer. And that must be the reason Massachusetts last week decided to grant licenses to its growing numbers of resident non-citizens, becoming the 16th state in the U.S. to do so. However, the side effect of this policy allows non-citizens, including illegals, to gain the right to vote in certain local elections in some of those states. Are driver’s licenses a means of “acknowledging” illegal aliens and, ultimately, giving them the right to vote? And is the license scheme the “prelude to a kiss” of death for our democracy?

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, a Republican, vetoed the bill when it reached his desk, but his state’s House and Senate, both controlled by Democrats, voted to override his veto last week. He issued a statement saying that the bill could lead to non-citizens registering to vote. As he put it, “The RMV [the state’s Registry of Motor Vehicles] does not have the expertise or ability to verify the validity of many types of documents from other countries.”

In his Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States written by Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story in 1833, he stressed that “If aliens might be admitted indiscriminately to enjoy all the rights of citizens at the will of a single state, the Union might itself be endangered by an influx of foreigners, hostile to its institutions, ignorant of its powers, and incapable of a due estimate of its privileges.”

FAIR, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, uses that quote at the top of its webpage headlined Noncitizens, Voting Violations and U.S. Elections. It’s a good read — at least for the patriots among us. It points out that:

  • Voting by non-citizens, including illegal aliens, is expressly prohibited by law.
     
  • About a dozen jurisdictions now permit non-citizens, and even illegal aliens, to vote in local elections.
     
  • In 2014, a study estimated that approximately 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in the 2008 presidential election and that 2.2 percent voted in the 2010 midterm elections.
     
  • The U.S. and the United Kingdom are the only democracies that do not have voter identification requirements.
     
  • According to a 2018 survey, a large majority of Americans – including Republicans, independents, and Democrats – opposes voting by non-citizens and illegal aliens.

FAIR notes that the Real ID Act of 2005 “established standards for state-issued licenses and other identity documents – including verification of immigration status,” yet “many of the allegedly compliant states” are still handing out driver’s licenses to illegals. 

In the 18 months since President Biden took office, we’ve seen millions of illegals seeking his blessing to cross our borders. It’s cause for concern that future elections, locally and nationally, may eventually be rigged.

Not all non-citizens, legal or illegal, are part of some Leftist scheme to the destroy America’s electoral process. But the facts give cause for concern.

Jessica M. Vaughan is the Director of Policy Studies for the Center for Immigration Studies. She’s an expert on the impact of immigration. Prior to the Massachusetts vote last week that gave illegals a right to apply for driver’s licenses, she told the Boston Herald that the law was nonsense and that it is “asking for problems” in the future. “This will make it possible for more identity fraud, allow people to create new identities, and most importantly, allow people in this country illegally to obtain a document enabling them to live in the commonwealth as if they were there legally.”

Ironically, Mexico, whence come the hordes of illegal migrants crossing our border every day, requires voters to have an official photo ID to cast their ballots. No such identification is needed to cast a ballot in America. In fact, the U.S. and Great Britain are the only two of the world’s industrialized democracies that don’t require IDs to vote. An archived article published by the National Review just as the Donald Trump-Hillary Clinton Presidential Election campaign was getting started pointed out that “At a 2012 conference in Washington at which election officials from more than 60 countries met to observe the U.S. presidential election, most were astonished that so many U.S. states don’t require voter ID.”

As Massachusetts becomes the 16th state to provide official driver’s licenses to non-citizens, thus providing the ability to vote, it will eventually dilute the power of votes cast by eligible citizens legally entitled to vote. So, as the November elections become closer, remember your vote is either a birthright or earned by becoming a legal citizen of the United States. It’s time to demand voter ID laws to protect the power of your vote.

Democrat controlled states have been handing out driver licenses and all sorts of official identification to illegal aliens for years now. This article would have been timely maybe 10 years ago, but sadly today it is not only too late in many Democrat controlled states but we have an administration in Washington that is actively flooding the country with millions of illegal aliens each year.

All the driver’s licenses and other official identification handed out to illegals in Democrat controlled states is with the express purpose of making it almost impossible, unless the polling places were to ask for proof of citizenship which they are not allowed to do, to distinguish an American citizen, who has the right to vote, from an illegal alien who shoudn’t be allowed to vote and is breaking the law yet again but is routinely permitted to do so with the expressed understanding that a vote for Democrats, it is a vote for being allowed to stay here and get all kinds of “free stuff”.

The application for a drivers license ( just the license) should not include voter registration. But since our progressive liberals have included it as a “means to increase “ voter registration, then two additional steps have to occur. One— the DMV clerk who reviews the paperwork needs to note whether the drivers license application has all the necessary requirements for the specific license—only those who have provided the information of legal status gets to keep the voter registration or voter registration changes attached to be processed. Those applications that don’t will have the voter registration stamped void. Second—All of the voter registration forms must be processed by the Board of Election and the individual needs to understand that the first time they actually vote they will have vote in person and show identification. —drivers license, which should be not problematic since they have to show identification to get a drivers license.
There’s a very detailed list of information papers, that one has to provide to get a drivers license. Most DMVs in most states require identification to issue drivers licenses, plus to travel domestically, as of late 2022, most states require the driver license to be upgraded. Undocumented individuals will not be able to get the upgraded version without legal documentation which means their application should not include any voter registration forms. They will only get a drivers license which will enable them to drive, get tickets if they don’t follow the rules of the road, apply for legalizing their status ( start the process).

Migrant worker’s that decided to stay.
Now estimated 44 million people are not legally eligible to vote.
How many will??

I don’t believe non-citizens should have regular driver’s permits….have them use a separate kind of ID for driving, like the green card for work. Any time you legitimatize non-citizens position, you open the door to abuse by them and by the people want to use them for political ends. Non-citizens should not have the same rights as citizens….period.

ONE: We do NOT live in a “Democracy” we live in a Constitutional Republic of United States.
We have a Democratically elected form of representation but, we ARE a Constitutional Republic of United States.
TWO: ANY State validating and suborning illegal acts is criminal in and of itself. NO Benefit is to be awarded to criminals from another country here illegally. It’s a crime to do so.
THREE: Used to be we had the Rule of Law in this country. Now we are a Banana Republic run by the insane and criminals.

TAXACHUSETTES HAS PUSHED TO OPEN THIS CAN OF WORMS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! BLUE ON BLUE HEARTACHE ON HEARTACHE. WHAT A GREAT PLACE TO EXIST. THE DMV HAS PROVEN THE ORGANIZATION TO BE PROFICIENT AT BEING INEPT. THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAN BE HANDLED PROPERLY.

I’VE HAD A DRIVER’S LICENSE IN MA FOR 40 YEARS. AT MY LAST RENEWAL I HAD TO PROVIDE A PROOF OF PRESENCE AKA A BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND OTHER SUPPORT ITEMS.
THERE IS MANDATORY DRIVING TRAINING.
THERE IS A MANDATORY INSURANCE REQUIREMENT.
THE LIST JUST GOES ON. THIS CLUSTERXXXX IS A PATHETIC WAY TO GET VOTES.

So many folks – especially Democrats – harp on upholding “our Constitutional rights.” Have they read the parts that specify “citizens” have the right to vote? There are numerous references to the voting rights of citizens, but non-citizens are never mentioned as having a right to vote. “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside” (Constitution of the United States, Article XIV). Looks like those states that allow non-citizens to vote are in violation of the Constitution.

I had a friend here in Nevada that was here on a work Visa, who was automatically registered to vote when she got her driver’s license. She didn’t realize this had happened until she received a notice from the registrar confirming her registration. She had to tell them she was not a citizen before they would remove her registration. Am I to believe this was an isolated incident? When I moved a year ago, I checked the box on the postal change address form to update my voter registration. When I followed up a few months later, I found my party affiliation had been changed! And finally, the Demonrat controlled legislature passed a bill for permanent vote by mail, unless you opt out. Of course the Dem Governor signed that without hesitation, just more job security for him! Free and fair elections my A$$!!!!

I don’t see that we have a Democracy now. The present administration has ruined everything that Donald Trump did. So……c’mon Reps, you have to speak louder. I don’t hear you yet, I just get mail everyday from you asking for money. Sorry, due to inflation, etc. I cannot help you. So get to work and make things better.

“Drivers licenses make our roads safer”? Forget that one. #2, we do NOT have a Democracy, we have a democratic republic! As for illegals having a right to vote, I understand the dangers but our REAL threat to our republic is from the socialist/Marxist/democrats. If they aren’t stopped, it doesn’t matter how many “votes” they get from ANY source.
