If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably not an ostrich. If a leftist group cited by the FBI puts Christian nonprofits on a “hate map” and says Christian moral theology is evidence of “hate,” it’s probably anti-Christian—even if it swears to high heaven that’s not true.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which the FBI cited in its notorious memo on “radical traditional Catholics,” puts conservative Christian nonprofits on a “hate map” alongside chapters of the Ku Klux Klan, claiming they are part of the “infrastructure upholding white supremacy.”
For years, the SPLC claimed it was a “major misconception” that the SPLC is anti-Christian.
“A major misconception—one that is deliberately promoted by anti-LGBT hate groups in order to accuse the SPLC of being ‘anti-Christian’—is that the SPLC considers opposition to same-sex marriage or the belief that homosexuality is a sin as the sole basis for the hate group label,” the SPLC claimed. “This is false. There are many organizations, such as Focus on the Family, that oppose same-sex marriage or oppose homosexuality on strictly biblical grounds that the SPLC does not list as hate groups.”
Yet this year, the SPLC added Focus on the Family to the “hate map,” branding it—you guessed it—an “anti-LGBTQ+ hate group.” Meanwhile, the language about the “major misconception” no longer appears on the SPLC website. No matter, I have it archived here (the 2017 version) and here (the 2020 version).
Thanks, SPLC. I’m glad to have that “major misconception” cleared up.
It turns out the critics were right all along, and SPLC is anti-Christian, now by its own admission.
Evidence for the Anti-Christian Label
Remember when Colorado prosecuted a Christian baker because he refused to craft a custom cake to celebrate a same-sex wedding? Well, the SPLC represents an institutionalization of that anti-Christian animus—the kind that says, “You must celebrate the LGBTQ+ revolution, or else!”
Some Christian groups, like Alliance Defending Freedom, fight for Christians’ free speech to opt out of celebrating the rainbow, and—you guessed it—ADF is on the “hate map.”
Some groups, like Moms for Liberty, fight for parental rights in schools where activists push gender confusion on children, and they’re on the “hate map,” too.
Some organizations of doctors, like the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine and Do No Harm, oppose the grotesque “transgender” interventions on kids that the legacy media euphemistically calls “gender-affirming care,” and the SPLC has a spot for them, too.
Even gay and lesbian groups, such as Gays Against Groomers, who have problems with things such as “drag queen story hours” for kids, are on the “hate map” as “anti-LGBTQ+ hate groups” because they won’t get with 100% of the program.
Why is this anti-Christian? Well, both the Bible and Christian tradition teach that God made humans male and female (Genesis 1:27), that marriage is between one man and one woman (Matthew 19:5-6), that homosexual activity is sinful (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Romans 1), and that marriage is a symbol of the union between Jesus Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:22-32).
None of this means that people who struggle with gender confusion or same-sex attraction cannot be Christian. The Gospel is for everyone, and all Christians admit that we are redeemed sinners. However, there is an inherent contradiction between traditional Christianity and the demands of LGBTQ “Pride.”
The SPLC proved as much by branding the Ruth Institute, a Louisiana-based nonprofit dedicated to helping those who have been harmed by the Sexual Revolution, an “anti-LGBTQ+ hate group.” The organization maintains that the Sexual Revolution harmed men, women, and children by deemphasizing marriage and the family. As evidence of the Ruth Institute’s “hate,” the SPLC cites a quote from the institute’s founder, Jennifer Roback Morse.
“The church is very clear that same-sex sexual acts are intrinsically disordered and can never be morally acceptable,” Morse said. That’s not her opinion—it’s a quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a binding faith document for 1 billion Christians across the world.
The SPLC’s Statement of Faith
R.G. Cravens, manager of research and analysis at the SPLC arm that publishes the “hate map,” explained SPLC’s reasoning for including Focus on the Family last week. While he mentioned other issues, he also expressly stated that Focus’ position on human sexuality is harmful.
“Like other hate groups that SPLC lists, they weaponize Christian rhetoric against LGBTQ+ people,” Cravens said. “They sow division and ideas that tear families apart by perpetuating political notions that LGBTQ people can’t be, for example, truly Christian unless they deny who they are.”
“That’s just, one, patently false, and it’s, two, really dangerous,” he added.
This isn’t a dispassionate analysis of Focus on the Family’s harms for America. It’s a statement of faith that directly contradicts the Bible and Christian tradition.
This animus helps explain why an LGBTQ activist targeted the Family Research Council for a terrorist attack in 2012, using the SPLC “hate map.”
It also explains why it was such a big scandal for the FBI to cite the SPLC in its memo on “radical traditional Catholics”—and, according to documents unearthed by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, that wasn’t even close to the first time.
It’s long past time that law enforcement, corporate America, and the Democratic Party wake up to the fact that the SPLC is an extreme force for polarization and division in America—and distance themselves accordingly.

The Southern poverty law center has nothing to do with the South with poverty or with law. It is nothing but a domestic hate group. They actually are a domestic terrorist organization and should be classified as such
SPLC is one of Satan’s tools.
The SPLC is a terrorist organization. Anything that goes against what “they” deem as acceptable is targeted for downfall by them and their followers. That’s what terrorist organizations do. I do not advocate for racism in any way. But I do not support that I have to accept having someone else’s sexuality or sexual preferences shoved in my face every time I go out in public. Ethnic heritages and skin color are not the same as sexual identity politics and SPLC has been blending all of it together for decades. Part of the New World Order where if you dare have any traditional Western European (Christian) identity, they are determined to wipe you out.
The SPLC and ACLU are just far left hate groups. They only come to the defense of leftists. Neither are interested in actual law. They are front groups for the left. And both are anti-Christian.
SPLC and others of their ilk Worship THEMSELVES and the GOVERNMENT. SPLC has millions in off-shore bank accounts and has no conception of “poverty.” They have always been anti-Christian; protestations to the contrary. They, and most left-wingers, overlook Paul’s words on homosexuals: “some of you WERE” not are.
SPLC are modern slavers, using people to their own advantage, urging them to stay on plantation. to live off other people misery, what would that be called , without plantation they’d have to get a real job, Al Sharpton included.
And it’s probably the biggest hate group in the USA. Plus it’s the most amoral and of its father, the devil.
The Southern poverty hate center strikes again.
Exactly who’s calling who a hate group? The intolerance of any organization to demonize anyone who goes against their narrative is a clear display of their core values and negates any practical application or cause.
They have a right to their own Godless opinion, but I hope they aren’t getting any tax dollars.
Southern Poverty Law Center is an intriguing name. The monster with the smiley face. They love the poor so much that they try to make as many as possible.
As we get closer to the end times, hatred against Christians will ramp up substantially. No doubt His true Church will come under attack world wide. But when His own are taken out of the world only those who rejected Him will be left. They will have the mark of the Beast on them…and a hellish future.
SPLC is definitely a hate group and has been for many years.
No one knows when He will come back for His own…those who’re not His own best think what their future will be…it will be literal hell. Satan’s evil will also ramp up and I almost feel sorry for those left behind. What a shock that will stun so many when they realize Who they’ve denied.
I will add these to my prayer list, that they might come to TRUTH, and quickly so! May the Holy Spirit convict them.
Good, informative, well-written article. Thank you so very much for taking the time to inform us! Bravo Zulu!
Who made the SPLC god that they have the right to say what hate is and who is hateful?
My feeling is that the SPLC’s “hate map” is all the proof needed to label the SPLC as the biggest hate group in this nation. The natural follow-on to that then is prosecution and complete dismantling of the SPLC. Oh, and all of the principles involved within the SPLC go to jail for the rest of their natural lives since they clearly cannot be trusted to function as descent contributors to this society.
I know, it is all a pipe-dream. But I still would like to know if the DoJ and the FBI are not pursuing this end, why not?
The Progressive Left are very adept at using euphemisms to label their organizations of hate and policies. “BUILD BACK BETTER” etc is anything but.
Ironic how they believe that if you don’t believe like they do it is a hate crime, but I can’t call them a hater if they don’t agree with my beliefs. They are 100% a one way street.
Its A Duck
Has been day 1
When Morris Dees founded the SPLC decades ago it was primarily known as “Klan Watch” or “Hate Watch” under the SPLC umbrella. In the 70’s and 80’s this group would track the KKK or neo-Nazi groups, but even then they would not go after Communist or any other Radical Left lunatic organizations and label them as “hate.” I have always noted their hypocrisy, as if all Klan or neo-Nazis were somehow all the devil and the Left represented angels. There are good people on both sides who are sincere, and wish no harm to anyone. Time for SPLC be investigated for anti-Christian, anti-male, anti-America First behavior. They are the ones guilty of hate speech.
If it’s Leftist, IT’S A HATE GROUP.
And that is EXACTLY WHAT SPLC is. Nothing more than a CORRUPT, DECEITFUL, LIE-SPEWING ANTI-CHRISTIAN HATE GROUP.
Being the author of the Torah, Moses is perhaps the greatest of all Jews. Moses wrote that homosexuals should be executed. To disagree with a Jew of Moses’ status is, by definition, antisemitism. If one does not believe that homosexuals should be executed, he needs to explain his antisemitism.
May God have mercy on their souls
The SPLC was “ordained” by the mainstream media cabal years ago as an authority on racism etc just as they established Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as spokespersons for the black communities. None of these individuals or entities were elected or in any other way validated as legitimate representatives for anyone. They were simply selected by corrupt media outlets so they could cite alleged “authorities” who would parrot the lines preferred by the left lunging media.
The SPLC is too woke to wake up. Don’t hold your breath.
SPLC’s hate list is a list of who THEY HATE. SPLC is the hate group. Because Christianity teaches morality from the bible, there are many ‘world’ approved activities Christians generally forego. It is certainly within the churches right to reject homosexuality based on their ancient guide, the Holy Bible.
We live in a free country. There is NO REQUIREMENT to be Christian. There is even less requirement to like anyone who identified as christian. You all need to grow the eff up and get over yourselves. Stop acting like little crybaby victims because other do not like, follow, or believe in your religion.
Speaking of the Democratic Party, the author says “the SPLC is an extreme force for polarization and division in America—and distance themselves accordingly.” Let’s say that’s true. Using the same logic, the Republican Party should distance themselves from the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and Three Percenters.
