U.S. President Donald Trump recently delivered a rallying cry against socialism, in an impassioned speech given at Florida International University. He spoke to a Venezuelan-American audience, many of whom had experienced the absence of freedom and opportunities while living under a socialist regime. At one point during the February 18th speech, a voice is heard exclaiming, “God bless you!” to Trump, reflecting the anti-socialism sentiment in the room. In one of the most persuasive speeches of our time, Trump made his message clear. In America, socialism will not happen, for it delivers false promises and always gives rise to tyranny in the end.

People often have romanticized views of socialism, in part due to false narratives of the left and influences of the liberal media. However, the reality of socialism can be seen in what’s happening in Venezuela. Hungry kids rummage through trash for food due to widespread starvation, hospital patients are being operated on without anesthesia or are being left to die, babies and children are going without medical treatment and vaccinations, suicide and violence are rising, scores of people are unemployed, inflation has risen ten million percent, some of the military is beginning to defect, and their main oil industry is in shambles. People are fleeing the country in droves. Trump explains how people become hooked on the promises of socialism. “Socialism promises unity, but it delivers hatred and it delivers division. Socialism promises a better future, but it always returns to the darkest chapters of the past,” he said.

Trump explains, “For decades, the socialist dictatorships of Cuba and Venezuela have propped each other up in a very corrupt bargain. Venezuela gave Cuba oil. In return, Cuba gave Venezuela a police state run directly from Havana.” Trump continues. “But this is a much different day, and those days are over. The ugly alliance between the two dictatorships is coming to a rapid end.” Trump talks about a new future and explains, “We know that socialism is not about justice, it’s not about equality, it’s not about lifting up the poor. Socialism is about one thing only: power for the ruling class. And the more power they get, the more they crave.”

President Trump’s fierce stance against socialism is something people haven’t witnessed since the days of Ronald Reagan. Like Trump, the former U.S. president understood the negative consequences of government-controlled societies. Reagan famously shared, “Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they don’t need it and hell where they already have it.” Trump’s “give the people the truth” attitude is refreshing. Moreover, his stance against socialism demonstrates his commitment to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” as expressed in the United States Declaration of Independence. Had the former President been in the audience for Trump’s speech, undoubtedly, he would have given Trump a well-deserved standing ovation.

Yes, and as usual, the MSM refused to cover any portion of the speech or even mention it on their so-called “news” programs. The mainstream newspapers, almost all of which are owned by Progressives, of course did their part to ignore or distort what little mention they provided of the President’s speech. Still the speech was covered, in its entirety, by a number of on-line news services both here and aboard. So the President’s words continue to get out there, for those of us that look beyond the limited scope of the American MSM.

The left and the news media hate President Trump because he is a real American with Constitutionalist values for our country. Everything that he has done has been for the good of this country and for its people. The left and it’s leftist news media have lied to the people, passed immoral legislation even unto murder of innocents as a choice. All they have to offer is hatred, more taxes and a Socialist agenda all of which will hurt this country and it’s people and this all started because Hillary didn’t win the election. I pray for them because not only is this country at stake but also their souls. They have no conscience and lost their moral compass.

Great article. I only disagree with the statement that if Obama was in the audience he would have given a standing ovation. Obama gives nothing to anyone. He’s all about take. With him it’s look at me! I’m the one who saved the world. Lol
My feelings remain as TRUMP 2020????????

We do not just need words against socialism. We need Republicans in Congress and the Senate with spine, who represent those who voted them in and not the corpulent interests who think that they can continue to cut deals with the devil. We need senior bureaucrats to “do America a favor…” and be replaced with with genuine civil servants.

I read several comments & believe that they are all realizing the danger of socialism. I wanted to comment on Clifford’s “Little Red Hen” story that I do know .
I jest was told as a young girl a different Red Hen story .
The mother hen sat over her brood of chicks when the prairie fire came .
After the fire was gone , the farmer picked up the hem that gave her life and under
her wings was the living baby chicks .
We have to take a stand for our children & protect them , inform them

God bless President Trump. Would that so many deceived young people of our country take his speech seriously, seek out people who lived under socialism/communism and ask themselves is this really the future they wish for themselves. Thank you AMAC staff for presenting this article.
