For Once, Supreme Court Poised to Change America for the Better

According to a draft of the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that was obtained and circulated by Politico Monday evening, the United States Supreme Court stands on the cusp of overturning its notorious 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade. In terms of its legal implications, such a decision would end the recognition of abortion on demand as a right under the U.S. Constitution and allow voters in the various states to determine their own abortion laws through their elected state representatives.

But if the Court’s draft majority opinion accurately reflects the way it will officially rule later this spring or summer, Dobbs would represent far more than a mere Court decision and its magnitude would clearly extend far beyond the legal, constitutional, and political realms of American life. Dobbs would very likely pave the way for a great revival in American life that reasserts the sacred and enduring value of human life.

Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division,” Justice Samuel Alito writes on behalf of the Court in the leaked document. “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision.” Alito was joined in the draft opinion by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—the latter three of whom are appointees of former President Donald Trump. Together, the five would constitute a majority should the opinion be officially issued by the Court.

With Dobbs, the Court would be a significant catalyst in restoring the foundational American promise that all men and women are created equal, and made in the image of God, and that protecting life is one of government’s most fundamental duties. Dobbs could inspire Americans to forge a future rooted firmly in the timeless principles of the American Founding—a future that, in the words of Pope John Paul II, is “worthy of man.”

Should the Court move forward with this courageous decision, the sheer number of sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters whose lives would be spared by the Dobbs decision cannot be understated. Since Roe was authored nearly half a century ago, more than 62 million unborn children have been killed in the womb in the United States—nearly a fifth of the country’s current population.

But, thanks to state-level pro-life legislative initiatives in places like Texas, yearly abortion deaths are steadily beginning to drop—a trend that is all but guaranteed to continue in a post-Dobbs nation. According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, there was a 51 percent reduction in abortions performed in the state from September 2020 to September 2021 (the month the Texas Heartbeat Act went into effect)—culminating in the prevention of 75 abortions statewide every day.

With the overturning of Roe now a very real possibility, the United States is at a rare moment of national reckoning and fundamental course correction.  In the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation, President Abraham Lincoln freed all slaves in the states in rebellion at a time when the nation was engulfed in civil war. Lincoln wrote that the United States “will recognize and maintain the freedom of [these slaves], and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.”

Nearly three years later, the 13th Amendment, which abolished the practice of slavery entirely and is now rightly seen as being among the most important developments in American history and a great fulfilment of the American promise, was ratified.

Today, many tensions and divisions consume our land, including over the practice of abortion. But just as the practice of slavery is now universally seen as an egregious affront to America’s guarantee of equal justice for all, abortion too will someday be universally seen for what it truly is: the barbaric ending of innocent human life. And the Roe decision itself, much like the Court’s 1857 Dred Scott decision (which regarded African Americans as property and barred from citizenship), will one day similarly be seen as a heinous attack against the values and principles of the Founding.

In his 1863 Gettysburg Address, in the midst of the bloody Civil War, Lincoln powerfully stated his faith that American renewal would follow a recommitment to our most sacred principles:

It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

As the Supreme Court nears the end of its term in the coming weeks, let every American of good will boldly stand up in defense of life. With Dobbs, the Court has a rare opportunity to give our nation a “new birth of freedom” by empowering the American people to disavow the evils of abortion and to fulfill our hallowed mandate to safeguard life and liberty for all.

Roe v. Wade it’s not a constitutional issue in the first place it’s a personal issue between a woman and a doctor. It needs to be overturned so that it is no longer having tax dollars allocated so that all of America pays for some woman’s abortion.

I certainly don’t agree with RVW, but with the intentional slip by the almighty left of the court’s decision, it is allowing Biden to introduce doctrine that would actually nullify their decision; another damned if you do, damned if you don’t…..

IMHO: I don’t recall the word “abortion” being mentioned in the Constitution, so it would be one of the things left to the State or the People, since the Constitution didn’t specify it. The Constitution limits the Federal government, not the people. Abortion is something that should be left to the pregnant female, with advice from her doctor or her religious leader if needed. There are sound reasons to abort a fetus if it is a threat to the mothers’ life or it’s seriously defective. Some cry “Oh, you might be killing the next Einstein, but if you think about it, you might be killing the next Jack the Ripper, so it’s just a crap shoot. The argument is certainly not a Federal, or State, subject, and should be left to whoever is most affected, and that isn’t a bunch of politicians.

It’s past time for RVW to be repealed and should never have been made a law in the 1st place. even in 1973 there were enough preventions for a woman to keep from getting pregnant, today even more and if they don’t use them or take precautions to to keep from getting pregnant then that’s on them and tax dollars should not be spent for their carelessness. Certain cases abortion should be allowed but not for an inconvenient pregnancy. And if the Republicans regain the house the 1st thing they should do is impeach the Demented person in the WH, the obvious idiot for a VP and the drunk Pelosi. I’m not sure who would be in line next but would probably be better than those 3.

If SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade, the demo/Marxist left will go completely ape and stop at nothing to find some way to keep on killings babies. We are no longer just dealing with “bad” people. We are dealing with evil, Godless, Satanically driven people with no conscience who would kill anyone regardless of age or sex. Their wickedness cannot be compared with any persons in America’s past.

Hopefully, Roe v. Wade does actually get overturned. A woman’s right to chose should be left up to the states, not the Federal Government. The states will be more in line with the wishes of the people. If a state does not offer the options that are desired by an individual citizen, then that citizen can go to a state which will meet her needs. Whether one supports abortion or is against abortion, abortions are serious and sad.

For once the Supreme Court, (without the help of the low life Chief Justice John Roberts) will maybe get something right and the Loonies on the Left are screaming about losing Constitutional rights, there is not one thing even close to stating that Planned Parenthood has the right to Gut a Women for her un-born Child, and sell the little tikes body parts and give a kickback to the Democrats, if there is someone please show me, as I have read the Constitution at least 4 times in the last year, there is a part of the Bill of Rights called the 2nd Amendment that reads — A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. What is it about shall not be infringed is it you slime-balls on the left don’t understand, it a Constitutional right that is Equal to the other 9 amendments in the bill of rights, and cannot be changed without a vote of the people, but you Morons have no problem altering my Constitutional and God given rights? Every Gun control Law on the books should be ruled Un-Constitutional, but they won’t, because they would rather control the American Citizen than the Criminal’s, because we have a weak Chief Justice, appointed by a weak President Bush, who appointed him for political favor and not because Roberts was a good Judge.

I have studied the United States Constitution. I have never found the clause, paragraph, section, or amendment that guaranteed women (or men) the right to an abortion. If someone has found that guarantee, perhaps they can post it for everyone’s education.

This leak was done to alert the leftist groups! This overturn may not even happen if those leftist groups try to intimidate the justices and threaten their families!!! We will have to wait and see and I want the one who leaked this to go to jail!!! I heard what the leaker did is tantamount to theft of government property! Whichever it is, that clerk should lose their license to practice law in this country forever!!!! I pray the justices and their families don’t get hurt over this!

The big lie is spoken softly here. The author suggests that abortion rates are falling because of recently enacted abortion restrictions. He (interesting that this article was written by a man,with apparent Irish heritage, who speaks fondly of John Paul II. I was raised as an Irish-American Catholic myself, so I’m sensitive to these things) but, he fails to note that the abortion rate was falling steadily for forty years since Roe v. Wade was decided, and only started ticking up after justices were appointed to the Supreme Court whose sole purpose was to undermine abortion rights.

It is unprecedented to leak a SCOTUS draft.The first reaction of leftists such as Sen. Bernie Sanders was to call for either trying to stack the Court or circumvent the ruling.The person who did this is a traitor to the SCOTUS and therefore to the laws of this country. Not that many people have access to a Justice’s draft, so I expect to know the traitor by tomorrow! Call in the FBI get this done! Whoever did this knowingly created a threat putting SCOTUS in danger and that is a high crime.
