Freshman Bronx congresswoman and self-described democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently announced her plan to enact a program to decarbonize the United States economy. Dubbed the Green New Deal, the radical plan would ban the use of all fossil fuels from the American manufacturing, agriculture, and electricity sectors by 2030.
Ocasio-Cortez has described the plan as a way to address climate change, however there’s more to the Green New Deal than its proposed energy provisions.
The Green New Deal includes a number of radical programs that have nothing to do with “green” energy, and everything to do with increasing the power and scope of the federal government. Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal calls for creating a federal jobs guarantee that would “assure a living wage job to every person who wants one,” and would form “basic income programs” with newly-imposed workplace requirements and wage standards. The proposal also includes single-payer health care and provisions to “mitigate deeply entrenched racial, regional and gender-based inequalities in income and wealth.”
Supporters of the plan have kept quiet about these hidden — and more costly — details, advertising its energy mandates alone. But while Ocasio-Cortez insists the purpose of the proposal is to reduce the global temperature and prevent a rising climate in the future, her real intentions are clear: the ultimate goal of the Green New Deal is to enact a series of radical redistributionist programs and impose socialism on the American people.
And how would these socialist programs be funded? Just like the Democrat-proposed Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, too, has an enormous price tag. Economists estimate that a guaranteed minimum income (just one part of the plan) of $12,000 a year would cost $3.8 trillion alone. Ocasio-Cortez has proposed a 70% tax rate on the rich, saying the wealthy should pay their “fair share.” Democrats have also introduced a national carbon tax in Congress to fund their socialist plan. According to the Congressional Budget Office, a $25 per ton carbon tax would be approximately a $1.1 trillion per year increase in taxes. If enacted, it’s clear the Green New Deal would cause mass inefficiencies in our economy, lead to soaring federal spending, doubled taxes, and a rising national debt.
If this weren’t enough, the Green New Deal would destroy individual liberty as we know it, allowing the government to meddle in every aspect of each American’s personal life. When you centralize control of the economy and the people who work in it, you destroy individual freedom and autonomy. Just look at North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela.
Simply put, Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is about socialism and government expansion, not the environment. Younger voters may be fooled by the congresswomen’s idealism and lofty promises, but those of us who have witnessed the collapse of other countries after adopting similar socialist plans already know that the Green New Deal is nothing but a raw deal for Americans.
This plan is absurd.

I don’t know that the “Green New Deal” is a Trojan Horse at all. A Trojan Horse has to look like something good to everyone, or at least the overwhelming majority. This Green New Deal simply looks like (and is, of course) blatant socialism.
The real problem here is the number of people who want it so bad that they are diligently deceiving themselves into thinking that it will be anything other than the unmitigated disaster that anyone honest with themselves can easily see coming.
It is amazing to me that so many choose to reject any of the warning signs from so many who have gone down this road to disaster. Venezuela being the most recent and grievous example.
The democrats think their “dream” is about to come true. Full control of everything we do and think. I’m sure Nancy Pelosi will make sure she is exempted from the 70% tax rate just as they were exempt from the subpar Obamacare. That’s socialism!! Make all the citizens submit to the new rules and exempt the government officials!!
I think that is the reason people came here more than 200 years ago. If they don’t like our system of government, there are many miserable socialist countries they could move to. I’ve read AOC’s NGD Manifesto. It is thin, not well thought out, and demonstrates her (and her followers’) total ignorance of economics and the overwhelming benefits of capitalism to provide the most resources for the most people. If she were as politically astute as many believe, she could advocate for spending our bounties of capitalism to help repair the environment. She appears to believe government is the answer to everything, and as an example of that philosophy, she is frightening!

Haven’t any of these people screaming “global warming” ever studied the geological history of our world. There has been global warming since 13,000 years ago, when the ice sheet that covered Canada and some of the northern states, began to recede. It’s been receding ever since then a d we’ve been warming ever since then. At some point it will reverse and, 10,000 years from now, many of us in the northern states will be covered in a several hundred foot deep sheet of ice.

Sure, I want free money. Sure, I’ll take free solar on my roof. Sure, give free health care to everyone, including illegal immigrants. Sure, stick it to the greedy rich people. Sure, give me an electric car, even though the electricity it runs on was generated from fossil fuels. This is the same tired story that man can control the environment, weather and outcomes. The bigger issues is the movement of the true north magnetic point at the north pole. Historically, over thousands of years the pole has actually swapped places with the south pole becoming the north pole. The speed of moment of true north is now accelerating, suggesting a possible dynamic change. When, we don’t have a clue!
Of course all this is due the molten liquid iron core of the center of the earth. Man has has no affect upon this core, its movement or rotation.
The magnetic poles influence the weather patterns and intensity of storms we see on the earths surface.
Our knowledge of a pole swaps is not recorded in history as a testimonial, but we do have evidence of such have taken place over tens of thousand of years ago. We know that the magnetism of the earth causes change in weather patterns. As true north is a component of most all navigation system, this would also be disrupted.
The uniformed will remain in lock step with the green movement based on fake information, but the weather changes as noted by Gore misrepresent the true cause of weather changes being form mankind and carbon foot prints.
She should go visit Venezuela to see how things are under the kind of proposals she is pushing really work. People there are fleeing to Columbia where things are, believe it or not, better than in Venezuela.
