Do we need to have an HMO or PPO health plan if we have Medicare? Can we only have Medicare coverage?

Rosie

My mother’s HMO is going out of business and I need to get her into another HMO helthcare plan. Can I talk to an agent even if she is not an AMAC member?

What companies are you licensed with in the state of TN? What is the total annual out of pocket expense in each? What are the deductibles, not with Medicare but with the plans you are licensed with? How do I find out what the cost for my specific medications are with the plans you are promoting? I need a Prolia Shot twice yearly, what is my cost with your plans?

Thanks for the information. I will stick with the Medicare supplements plan. Question: Supplement plan changes are subjected to underwriting by an insurance company as to whether they will offer them insurance, are Advantage plans open enrollment with qualifying based on pre-existing conditions?

Hello Ken, Medicare Advantage plans are not medically underwritten, nor will they refuse an eligible applicant based on their pre-existing conditions. If you would like to discuss your plan options in more detail, our licensed Medicare Advisors are here to help you – give us a call at 1-800-334-9330 today!

I thought the podcast was very informative and did not push any of plan. They were very upfront about the Advantage Plan and how different it is from a supplemental plan. I would never get an Advantage Plan because I want my own doctor. I want to be covered wherever I go and not told I have to stay in-network. Some people prefer to give that option up to get the extremely low cost of an Advantage Plan, and that’s their prerogative. Good information, AMAC.

It offends me that Amac (who I thought could be trusted) is PUSHING the Medicare Advantage Plans. Everyone I have spoken to have said the Medicare Advantage Plans are not the best. Look at the supplements offered. Medicare is EXPENSIVE and the coverage SUCKS anyway you slice it. Medicare Advantage Plans are just another way the feds have sold out elders. I have delayed retirement just because of the cost of Medicare. This country ought to be ASHAMED of itself for how it treats its elders when it comes to health care.

I have had Medicare Advantage for 7 years and would never change. It’s an excellent insurance plan for my needs and many others I know agree. Amac is an upstanding company.

I’ve had an Advantage plan for 5 years with no problems. I can use any doctor/hospital in the US as long as they accept Medicare. You have flexibility to choose what works best for you….stay with the supplemental if you wish, but don’t disparage the Advantage plans if they are best choice for others.

Medicare is NOT expensive. You’ve obviously enjoyed an employer sponsored plan. You’re welcome. I and every other taxpayer subsidize the cost of your plan through your employer’s tax deduction of the cost of your insurance.
Why don’t you get in the real world of the cost of individual health insurance bought on the open market — $1000 per month, $10,000 deductible is not uncommon. Please don’t speak of what you know nothing about.

Hello Karen, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy our podcast. Our Medicare Advisory Service team works very hard to provide the most factual, unbiased information on all Medicare options; this podcast was meant to be an informative discussion on the plan types available for Medicare beneficiaries. We do not agree with steering towards one plan type because we know everyone’s individual needs are different. If you would like an individual Medicare analysis, we invite you to contact one of our licensed Medicare Advisors at 1-800-334-9330. Our services are complimentary to all and there is never any obligation to enroll. Thank you for your feedback.

Medicare Advantage is NOT a government policy. As a nurse I have seen them refuse to let a patient stay in the hospital to complete their care. I also had a lady die because they wouldn’t allow the proper level of care and time required to help her pneumonia. Then after the patient is released from the hospital their copay is outrageous

So, do you recommend regular Medicare and a supplemental plan, or what?

Hello Mark, you are right – Medicare Advantage plans are not Government policies, but they must follow rules set by the Medicare program. I am sorry to hear about your experiences as a nurse, and I know that certainly does not leave a good impression. It is worth mentioning that Medicare Advantage plans can vary greatly across the country. Some people find that an Advantage plan works well for them while others prefer to have a Medicare Supplement plan. Here at AMAC, we offer both options. If you or anyone you know would like assistance sorting through your plan options, we are here to help. Feel free to give us a call at 1-800-334-9330 today.

I definitely will be calling. I find the “Medicare Book” so confusing so just keep the plan I have. I am very healthy so that has not been a problem but as I get older, I know things might start falling apart! Nice to know there are folks I can talk to that have my best interest at their fingertips. Again, AMAC is amazing!!! Thank you!

I am going to be 63 shortly. I am planning to retire very soon. Is there anything like health insurance that I can get that will not be too expensive for the period between 63 and 65?

Hello Paul, I am glad you asked this question. Here at AMAC, we have another department that handles Individual Major Medical insurance for those who are not eligible for Medicare yet. Our carriers offer family plans for your spouse and dependents as well! Give us a call at 888-623-9595 and we would be happy to help you with your interim insurance.
