Democrats’ new rule: If you’re not a migrant, go to the back of the line.
Gary Moretti and his fiancee booked 30 rooms at The Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh, New York, for their bridesmaids and guests for a June 24 wedding. But New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ migrant-first policy demolished their plans.
Over the last two weeks, Adams has rolled out a scheme to bus hundreds of migrants to upscale motels in Newburgh, Orangetown and Yonkers, pleading that New York City is out of space. It didn’t matter that many of the motel rooms were already occupied or booked. Money talks. New York City pays above-market rates to house migrants, averaging $8,000 per room, per month, taxpayers be damned. The motels acted fast to clear their rooms.
“We had a legal contract to have those rooms,” Moretti said.
People staying at the Ramada Inn in Yonkers were told to clear out as well. Up to 100 migrant families are expected there within a week. Savannah Harp, who’s been living there with her 18-month-old son, resents that she’s had to pay for her room, while the migrants displacing her will get rooms for free.
Big city Democrats like Adams give migrants top priority. Protest and you’re called “racist” or “xenophobic.”
Even so, some local leaders are fighting back against Adams’ takeover of hotels and motels in their counties.
Rockland and Orange counties are in court, arguing that Adams doesn’t have the right to set up shelters outside New York City.
Other counties are putting Adams on notice to not even try it. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Republican, made it clear, “we are not a sanctuary county.”
The battle unfolding in New York will likely be repeated in many locales. Connecticut alerted towns to prepare for migrants.
The immigration industrial complex — a web of Democratic politicians, immigration lawyers and nonprofits that survive on public funding — pushes relentlessly for more money and more “rights” for migrants.
Adams plans to house migrants in upstate hotels and motels for up to four months, with shuttle service provided three times a day to wherever they want to go. What a deal.
Democrats promised migrants sanctuary from immigration law enforcement, luxury accommodations, three meals a day, and health and legal services. Now they express surprise at the deluge of people heading to New York City, and insist all counties share the burden.
The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing Rockland and Orange counties, claiming the counties’ resistance amounts to “xenophobic harassment and discrimination.” That’s a cheap shot and untrue.
It’s not about race. It’s about money. Caring for migrants will force counties to cut services to their own residents.
Adams’ city budget for the coming fiscal year is proof. It cuts every department, including police protection and education, to offset spending on migrants.
The generous handouts to migrants are also causing resentment.
A Hispanic American woman from Port Chester who has three kids and works cleaning houses said she’s furious to see migrants getting free housing. Why not her family, she asks.
Where is New York’s governor, Kathy Hochul? Mostly MIA. Her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, says Hochul should “come down here and pick up these people and disperse them across the state.” That’s ridiculous.
The answer isn’t to foist the problem on other communities. It’s to stop making New York a magnet for migrants.
Democrats don’t get that. Last week, Adams announced that the landmark Roosevelt Hotel on 45th Street and Vanderbilt Avenue will become the city’s migrant welcoming center and large shelter. Movies such as “The French Connection” and “Wall Street” were filmed there. The lobby is exquisite. A security guard told the New York Post, “the migrants are going to think they came to like Hollywood or something.”
Upscale lodging — whether it’s in Manhattan or along the Hudson — encourages migrants to make New York their destination. Worse, it sends a message to the rest of us, including Gary Moretti and his bride, that we’re saps.
Tell Adams to house migrants in barracks and tents and provide only bare necessities. Be humane, but not stupid.

Hey, ever since the Democrats passed the 1965 immigration reform bill, the clear intent of the Democrat Party was to flood the country with as many people from other socialist nations as fast as possible. Changing the demographics of the nation to more accurately reflect other 3rd world socialist nations was key to the Democrat Party creating a permanent voting majority in this country forever. Simply promoting legal immigration wasn’t going to get it done, because those coming here legally tended to be more conservative and did not want to replicate the countries they were fleeing. With Team Biden in place, the left has a unique opportunity to increase the in-flow of illegals drastically. Just in the 2 and 1/2 years Biden has occupied the White House, all immigration laws have gone by the wayside and we have taken in over 6.5 million additional illegal aliens. Bringing the current total of illegal aliens in this country to more than 45 million. Biden and his administration constantly claim there is no border crisis and the border is being managed well. All while 8,000 to 10,000 illegals flood into our country each and every day. The American people are NOT stupid and see what is going on, but sadly that is where it ends.
Yes, we are now transforming hotels and even public school facilities into permanent housing for illegal aliens. That is what happens when the American people just sit back and throw up their hands and say “woe is me” instead of making it crystal clear to those in Washington and other Democrat strongholds that this has to stop. From talking with relatives in other countries who see what is happening here in the United States on their own nightly news, I am constantly asked why there are no mass protests against the invasion occurring each day? The answer I give them is one that would be censored by the AMAC moderator immediately. However, some of you may be able to accurately guess what it is.
In 2015, Angela Merkel of Germany allowed over a million illegals from the Middle East to flood into Germany and the rest of Europe. That flood ended up being 3 million illegals by the time Europe got its act together to put a stop to it. Unfortunately, the mass in-flow of what were completely illiterate people permanently altered all of Western Europe forever. Crime quickly escalated and the entire EU was forced to pay for millions of people that will never integrate into western society nor ever be productive members of society. Today, Europe is still suffering the fallout from Merkel’s decision, and she was recently given an award by the United Nations for her actions in 2015. That speaks volumes as to what the U.N. really values.
In just 2.5 years, Biden has managed to flood the United States with an additional 6.5 million illegals, most of whom are completely illiterate and will be a permanent drain on society. Thousands more are pouring in 7 days a week and we will soon have close to 50 million illegals in this country by the time the 2024 elections roll around. Those that ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat the consequences.
It’s all part of the big plan ,just like the “plandemic”, to destroy our nation. to divide us as a country, and to bankrupt us both morally and financially. Today people want something for nothing- rights without responsibilities. But all will answer to God some day. Yes, we need to show compassion on the less fortunate- but they can come here through a legal process. When I lived in SE Asia during the Viet Nam War as a “ tourist” because I had to give up most rights as a military dependent on an unaccompanied tour, I had to follow all immigration laws under threat of imprisonment – and I did, including crossing the Mekong into Laos 6 days before the Communist takeover with 2 toddlers in order to renew my visa to re-enter the country. ( God protected me. Never was I robbed there like I was in Austin, nor was my young son threatened like he was at gunpoint as an adult in San Antonio. Asian people were kind to my children and I. They did not want to be under communism! ) But if I had not followed all immigration laws , not only would I have been in prison, I was told they would not feed me! Someone from my country would have had to bring me food! They had laws to protect their nation, and I had to follow them. The only reason that Democrats don’t have similar laws for foreigners is because they want votes-period.

considering what is going on with this strange, unusual and unnecessary strategy regarding housing for migrants , those ideas are truth and balance. Truth has a way of helping to put things in balance. As you mentioned Rockland County and Orange County
( State of New York ) are concerned about being able to provide services Tor their residents, that is normal , that is what any honest, responsible county officials should have as a priority. Very good article. They are trying to destroy our patriotism and they are succeeding. When immigrants are cared for above our vets and our people we need to remember this when elections come up again. Send them back where they came from. I’m sure we are above the limits set by immigration for this many coming at once.

Article Two, section 8, clause 5 reads To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and three is about bankruptcies. If I were an immigration attorney representing present naturalized citizens, I would submit that any changes to the current laws would be unconstitutional, INCLUDING amnesty.
I would like to know where the American Legion is on this matter concerning displacing veterans? I have heard nothing from them, and I live in Indianapolis where their national headquarters are. We were once all foreigners but had a desire to live in a free country, to learn the language and to learn the new ways but still keeping who we were. Hey, we got a Mayoral candidate in Yonkers, Corizan, who is using the demographic numbers of rising Hispanic residents as the reason she should be the new mayor, totally ignoring that the city is a multicultural mix, besides being a mix of private homeowners and renters across all lines. There is no need to prioritize one over another if we all have the same goals. In Yonkers, we have been demanding that quality of life issues, eliminate the crime occurring in all areas, stop illegal sales of unregulated recreational cannabis by unlicensed smoke shops, remove illegal gun usage from our streets, etc. All law-abiding residents of Yonkers, no matter what denomination want this, and no word-salad solutions from the Democrats will be acceptable. Right now, they are trying to show on the public forum as “welcoming” for the new migrants being pass-on from NYC for “housing purposes” but the reality is we need long-term solutions for the assimilation of these new arrivals in Yonkers, now that they have arrived in town. One thing is for sure, we, residents of Yonkers, will not tolerate the honor system assimilation but will have all identified with documented photo ID verification. Everywhere in the USA, we need to make sure the Democrats understand that we aren’t listening to word salad reprimands, accusing us of their version of bias.
Hotels should think twice and then think again about accepting contracts to house the illegals (NOT migrants). All news reports describe how the rooms were trashed as well as the common areas of hotels where they were staying. It will cost the hotels much more to get the hotel back to livability for future guests.
When they run out of hotels, then what happens? I guess the taxpayers will pay for apartment buildings to house people who should not be here in the first place. We have immigration laws but as we all know, the dems ignore the laws of the United States if it doesn’t suit their agendas. If people continue to vote for democrats, our laws will meaningless and they will keep on destroying our country.

It is of great importance to understand the difference between people who are refugees, those who are asylum seekers, and the difference between migrants and immigrants. All indications are that this complex matter of causing an imbalance in the economic structure of housing for this emergency that started at the border will continue to get even more complex until good sense is used and respect for the truth of what is going on with this issue is established.
Until that happens thinking about the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights of the Constitution will be time well spent. Especially for those who are in decision making positions involving this issue.

This matter of people crossing the border without going through the proper procedure in order to enter the country legally, it is an invasion, it is a national security issue. I am not involved in the field of immigration and naturalization , however I listen to Michael Cutler on a Conservative radio station , Michael Cutler is a retired Immigration and Naturalization Service agent and has many years experience advocating for improvements in dealing with border related matters. I am thinking that this matter is made complicated by some, as a political strategy, the matter of using the right terms to describe who is who , that is, the status of people who enter the country in an unauthorized manner is an example. There are those who are part of the criminal element , and there are those who are decent, respectable , law abiding people who are in a very dangerous situation because of the criminal element where they live. Comparing the situation to being in an area that is being flooded , if a decent, respectable , law abiding family is in danger of flood waters and their only way to safety so as to not drown is to cross onto the private property of someone who has property out of the flood threatened area , I do not believe they should be considered part of a criminal element. The terminology used is important, there are refugees , there are asylum seekers, and there is a difference between migrants and immigrants and there are illegal aliens. There are many circumstances involved that determine what the correct, accurate description would be to understand the truth of matter. This whole matter is complex in many ways because of a limited way of considering solutions. I am thinking that state parks that have facilities for camping would be a possibility. And the matter of why there are not enough people , not enough authorities in order to handle this national security emergency — really needs to be addressed. There is an enemy element crossing the border, and they need to be stopped . And there are people who are unfortunately in very bad situations that are not an enemy element and they should be considered worthy of some help since they want to be good citizens , and are decent, law abiding, and respectable. Respect for the truth is at the foundation of dealing with these matters.
