Trump Expands Access to Retirement Savings for American Workers

Thanks to a new executive order from President Donald Trump, millions of American workers could have greater access to retirement savings that empower them to thrive as they age – and some could even receive matching contributions from the federal government.

Currently, about 54 million Americans don’t have access to an employer-based retirement plan like a 401(k), which often includes an employer match on contributions. Trump’s order aims to change that by instructing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to create a new website called TrumpIRA.gov which will “allow workers to filter and compare IRAs based on cost, quality, and investment options.”

The website is set to be operational by January 1, 2027, with a goal to “connect American workers who do not have access to employer‑sponsored retirement plans with high-quality, low-cost IRAs offered by private-sector financial institutions.”

Trump’s order comes at a critical time as some workers who do not have access to employer-sponsored retirement accounts will be able to receive $1,000 per year in matching funds from the federal government beginning next year through a program known as “Saver’s Match.”

Americans are eligible for the full $1,000 Saver’s Match if they make less than $20,500 per year as an individual or less than $41,000 per year as a couple. Smaller matches are available to workers making up to $35,500 as an individual or $71,000 as a couple.

The $1,000 match was made possible through the SECURE 2.0 Act, which Congress passed in 2022, and former President Joe Biden signed into law. Trump’s executive order ensures that as many Americans as possible have access to those matching funds by creating the website to expand awareness and increase the number of workers enrolled in eligible accounts.

The White House explained that the new website will “maximize public awareness of the Saver’s Match, ensuring that it reaches its full potential and boosting participation, particularly among workers who historically had no clear path to retirement savings and wealth building.”

The president explained why the executive order is so important during the signing ceremony.

“The great thing for millions of Americans who lack employer-sponsored plans, this will be really revolutionary because they’ll be covered,” Trump said. “Nobody thought that was possible. For example, if a 25-year-old who is eligible for a Saver’s Match program invests just $165 a month under the matching federal contributions, they will have an estimated $465,000 in their account by the time they’re 65 years old. In other words, they’ll be rich. And there’s something awfully nice about that.”

The order also directs the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service to issue guidance clarifying “the tax treatment of contributions made by philanthropic and charitable tax-exempt organizations to IRAs on behalf of eligible workers.”

Bessent is likewise directed to “prepare legislative recommendations to codify and build upon the TrumpIRA.gov framework.” While Trump’s order is a momentous step forward, some retirement advocates are pushing for a larger federal match and automatic enrollment for workers.

Still, the order is yet another promise kept for the President. Trump pledged to give “often-forgotten American workers — great people, the people that built our country — access to the same type of retirement plan offered to every federal worker” during his State of the Union Address in February. The new program marks a major step toward fulfilling that commitment.

This is only a troll to gain votes for the mid term. Trump needs to realize that the majority of Americans cannot afford to save anything, because they can barely survive paying for the hish costs of housing, energy, food, and almost everything. The stock market is the last thing on the minds of a family trying to make ends meet. Wake up & realize what is happening to average Americans!

Why is it called TrumpIRA? President Trump has done some great things for Americans, but he talks and brags too much. Even I’m tired of him.

As a couple, at 69 and 70, who together, built 80 years of IRAs and Roth IRAs in addition to managing our 401ks, we paid off all debts before retiring and before touching any of that retirement money. When we began to have serious knee problems, we bought another property and began to build a one-story home. We used our liquid savings to start. As this was in 2024, Biden’s admin’s inflation had building materials at an all-time high. We ran out of cash and drew on our IRAs and had to pay the IRS $60,000 (30%) that year. Because that was considered income with no exceptions for building a home, they also raised our medicare gap and drug coverage this year, 2 years later, assuming we are still earning $180k more than we do for the past 2 years. To help seniors, who worked every day of their latter teen and adult lives, I wish President Trump would address the exorbitant tax on IRA withdrawals. 30% is a kick in the behind for saving and never ever taking government money in our lifetimes.

How about eliminating the property taxes on the primary residences? Also, eliminate taxing social security benefits for all. Eliminate the IRS and impose a Flat Tax. This will save a lot for tax filers who uses tax preparers whose fees keep rising tremendously every year.

I still believe in our President Trump and he has my trust and support. I don’t claim to fully understand and agree with everything he’s doing regarding the Iran situation but I’m willing to extend my trust that he’s doing what must be done and is right for the long term security of the United States of America and it’s allies for that matter.
I have two grandsons that I love dearly and will come of age in the next couple of years. I don’t want to see them go off to war and I pray they won’t have to.

What a president. Looking out 24/7 for the hardworking citizens of this country including those voting against him
and are calling him Hitler. Don’t take this offering democrats. You shouldn’t benefit from President Trump’s policies and incentives. But then again being satanic bidders you will take the money from anyone as long as you don’t have to work. How do you sleep at night. Once in your miserable life will you acknowledge that President Trump is working for the average Joe and Jane in this country not for his base and certainly not for the billionaires like Bernie, Pocahontas, AOC or the Squad. They are beholden to all of these billionaires while screaming we are for you the people. No they are not. They are for power. Absolute power. And that is creating chaos and thereby destroying America.
Trump takes a few soldiers out of Germany and Italy and all of Europe collapses. We always knew America was the one that protected them and now that we are pulling out they scream please President Trump stay. They have been riding the gravy train long enough. America liberated them and rebuilt their countries after WW II. NATO came into being in 1949 and still America paid the lions share in money and troops and military equipment. The Europeans lived the life of Riley and when it was time to step up to eradicate evil Iranian leaders and others in the Middle East they said no. We should pull every base out of Europe once Iran has been eradicated as a nuclear threat. And put our troops in Greenland and at the borders in this country. Help ICE with deporting every illegal in this country. Make America America again.

Trump is bouncing around like a rubber ball this month. Rubio said today that Strait of Hormuz was international water & it is against laws to charge people to cross. Trump said a couple of weeks ago that he might go for joint venture with Iran to charge tolls. You people are our leaders & I suggest you act like adults.
