2026 Medicare plan information was just released to the public, giving you a chance to preview plans and see what’s new next year! Learn why early planning is important and when you can start making changes.

Why Compare Medicare Plans Early?

Now, most people cannot make plan changes until the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) begins on October 15th, unless they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). However, comparing plans now gives you a two-week head start to see what’s out there. Get started today to determine your next steps, whether that means changing plans or staying put.

Here’s how:

  1. Get a Medicare review from your AMAC Medicare Advisor
  2. Preview 2026 Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug plans
  3. Compare plans, benefits, and costs side by side
  4. Decide whether you need to change plans, gather more information, or keep your coverage

Even if you’re happy with your plan, premium increases, formulary, and/or provider network changes could affect you next year. A quick review now can save you money and give you peace of mind. By reviewing early, you’ll also avoid the rush when phone lines are busiest!

Keeping Your Current Medicare Plan

A frequently asked question is “Do I need to do anything if I want to keep my Medicare plan?” The answer is no. If you decide to stick with your current Medicare plan, you do not need to take any action. Your plan will passively renew for the upcoming year.

However, it is still highly advisable that you review your plan’s changes to ensure there are no surprises down the road. In the event that your plan is discontinued or crosswalked, you may get stuck with a different plan or no plan at all next year.

When Can I Change My Medicare Plan?

Remember, you cannot switch or enroll in a new plan until October 15th, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. You may qualify for an SEP if you experience specific situations like moving, losing insurance, or certain life events. Be sure to consult with a trusted AMAC Medicare Advisor to check your eligibility.

Key Dates to Remember:

  • October 1st: New Medicare plan information is released. It’s time to review your options!
  • October 15 to December 7: The Annual Enrollment Period—you can now make plan changes.
  • January 1: Your new plan begins.

During the Annual Enrollment Period, you can make unlimited plan changes. The last change you make before the December 7th deadline will take effect on January 1st, 2026.

This assumes one already has or will be receiving Medicare when he hits 65. It’d be nice to have info for those of us who opted out of Medicare at age 65 but now want to enroll (unless I’m the only one!)
