DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Chicago resident Jedidiah Brown stated on Tuesday that people throughout his city live in “fear” of crime on a daily basis.
Brown told NewsNation that residents are not experiencing a supposed decrease in crime, but rather they fear being “kidnapped” or “hurt” by criminals on the streets.
Democrat Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Democrat Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have both insisted that crime is dropping in Chicago as President Donald Trump has floated the idea of deploying the National Guard there.
“My children can’t walk around the community without fear of being hurt or kidnapped or having a drive-by. So, what these numbers that they’re expressing, we don’t feel it in our quality of life,” Brown said.
Trump said on Friday that he is eyeing Chicago as the next city to crack down on once he is finished cleaning up Washington, D.C. Since Aug. 7, more than 1,000 arrests have been made in the nation’s capital as a result of Trump’s crackdown, including members of the MS-13 and Tren de Aragua gangs.
The number of homicides in Chicago reached a 25-year high in 2021 and has remained significantly higher than the numbers recorded in the past decade, The Chicago Tribune reported. There have been 262 homicides in Chicago as of Tuesday, which is 117 fewer incidents in comparison to 2024, according to the Tribune.
Aside from June 2014, no other single month of June has had fewer than 40 homicides in Chicago since at least 1970, according to WTTW, a PBS affiliate.
Pritzker and Johnson said Trump would be violating the U.S. Constitution by deploying the National Guard to Chicago. Johnson repeatedly claimed that crime has significantly gone down and accused Trump of spreading misinformation about the city’s crime statistics.
Trump said on Friday that Chicago is a “mess” and stated that the residents are “screaming” for federal assistance.
“Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough. And the people in Chicago, Mr. Vice President, are screaming for us to come,” Trump said.
Pritzker took a video from one of the nicest parts of the city on Monday in an attempt to dispute that Chicago has a crime problem.
The governor and Johnson begged Trump during a press conference on Monday to not send the National Guard to Chicago. Pritzker argued that Trump is not “wanted” or “needed” in Chicago, while the mayor stated that residents do not want the president to “dictate” what they need.

It is a shame that the President has to threaten to deploy troops to those cities with Democratic leadership in charge because of high crime that these Demo leaders have allowed to fester during their tenure as they reduced their law enforcement forces. Then the Demos come out with bold face lies and false facts while their citizens state the side. This will continue until the Democrats are ousted from their strongholds.
Illinois’s slob governor and Chicago’s racist mayor keep telling citizens not to believe what they see. Just another example of liberals wearing the emperor’s new clothes and saying all is well, while citizens voice their fears about their lives being in danger on a daily basis. This is harsh, but if voters keep putting failures in power, they deserve what they voted for.
Much of the fear in Chicago is of gang activity on the West and South sides.
My concern is that the the Guard will spend most of its time patrolling the Mag Mile, Grant Park and other areas in the Loop rather than patrolling areas of the city that have serious gang activity.
What we really need is more cops in the neighborhoods.
Chicago needs the Presidents intervention! No one cares what Pritzker or Johnson says, the citizens of the city want and need it.
Here are the “facts”:
One method democrats use to hide crime rates is via unanswered calls, i.e. if police never show up to a 911 call, no report is ever filed … no report = no crime.
In Chicago, from 1/1/23 thru 7/25/23 (the latest dates data is available for), at least, AT LEAST 514,885 calls to 911 went unanswered … thus no reports were ever filed and the crime never happened.
What do you figure THAT did for crime statistics???
These are the same people who swore that Biden was sharp as a tack. They lied to us then and they’re lying to us now. Crime is not down, the data they are using to claim this has been manipulated.
Take away their “armed” security, their “armed” limo drivers, and “armed” staffers, force them to live like a regular citizen, then we’ll see what they have to say.
Let America be clear on this matter.

No crime in Chicago. In the billionaire neighborhood of Pritzker. Gated and security guards all around him. Go down to the slums of Chicago. Crime always has been bad in Chicago. The average Chicago residents has to deal with crime or the odds of encountering crime every day. But Pritzker and Johnson defunded the police in order for crime to flourish. You know DEI has to invade every facet of our lives. Why not eauity and inclusion for the criminals. Look how much money they are putting into gang member Garcia. Just to obstruct Trump. They don’t care for Garcia he is just today’s cause celebre. Today it’s Chicago. Pritzker has things under control. Only the people live in fear every day. Does Pritzker care? Of course not. He has thousands of illegals to replace you with. Even black on black killings he doesn’t care about. His neighborhood is safe. Pritzker needs to clean up Chicago, not just saying crime is down. 1 murder is one too many. With his stance he is putting the city open for criminals to go to. It’s a sad state of affairs when the democrats in charge are so pro crime. They only have themselves to blame. Because they opposed everything Trump implemented and then when his fight against crime in DC was a success but they already had protested against it they became know as the Pro Crime Party. Pritzker can’t very well now welcome Trump to clean up Chicago. He stiffened just to prove a point? What point would that be? Being pro crime, no resident in Chicago is on his side. He even got an evil idea to take down all the names of a Chicago resident who agreed with Trump. Just another dictatorial action by the communists.
Does this mayor and governor have no shame? We hear all about the violent crimes and even the less than violent ones, how can these two men show their face, let alone argue with what President Trump is doing, its beyond belief.

Putting a spotlight on crime in US cities is one thing Trump is doing right, but threatening sending NG in is unconstitutional! Democrats are correct calling out Trump on this. DC is under federal jurisdiction but Chicago is not!

“Crime” will be down if true crimes are mislabeled downward as has been alleged in DC and elsewhere. Also, some victims don’t call the cops because they figure nothing will happen even if the perp is arrested. Soros prosecutors will either not charge or arrange friendly plea deals to spare the “sorrowful” perps from losing their “freedom.”
It is only natural that when the perps are not arrested and charged, but just set free, the “crime numbers will drop”…..Way to go Chicago and Illinois, your bad voting is reaping what you asked for.

That averages almost 1.1 murders EVERY day in Chicago! And that’s good? Everyone knows that the murder rate in Chicago is worse per day than the war in Afghanistan was for the last few years! I live an hour away from Chicago but won’t ever go there unless it’s a life or death situation!
Amazing all the crime is in Democrat cities with majority Black populations. Black mayors, Black police chiefs, Black council members, Black D A’s. Quality of life seems not to be a priority for this who insist on emphasizing that the individuals who are doing criminal behaviors are victims of misfortune and the real victims of their actions are to be ignored if they have suffered any damages.
What happened to the “elected” or “appointed” Democrats? Are they no longer capable of telling the truth or are they just stupid? I read that there were 6 killed in Chicago the past weekend. The people of Chicago have to be concerned about their loved ones safety and well being? I don’t want to insinuate that all Democrats are stupid, but the ones with the microphones certainly have a problem speaking for the people that put them in office.
