The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday in a 6-3 decision that the Trump administration can continue to enforce a ban on transgender-identifying individuals in the military while court cases against the ban proceed. The ruling is a victory for President Donald Trump, who promised to eliminate radical gender ideology from the federal government and armed forces during his campaign last year.
The ruling fell along ideological lines, with Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson voting against the ban. Trump originally banned transgender individuals from the military in an executive order on January 27. That order was blocked by a federal judge two months later, but the Court’s decision has overturned that judge’s ruling.
“Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life,” Trump said in the executive order. “A man’s assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.”
The president explained in the executive order that “military service must be reserved for those mentally and physically fit for duty.”
Judge Benjamin H. Settle blocked the administration from enforcing the ban on March 27. He wrote at the time that any claimed hardship that the military “may face in the meantime pales in comparison to the hardships imposed on transgender service members and otherwise qualified transgender accession candidates.” He was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington by George W. Bush in 2007.
The Trump administration appealed the decision, but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the emergency motion in April. The Supreme Court then ruled Wednesday that the ban could go into effect as litigation proceeds.
Judge Ana Reyes made an earlier attempt to block the transgender ban on March 18, but the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals paused her ruling shortly after on March 28. She was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2023 by Joe Biden.
The Department of Defense shared a clip on X from Secretary Pete Hegseth explaining that the administration is moving forward with its plans to eliminate left-wing ideology from the military.
“We are leaving wokeness and weakness behind,” Hegseth said in the clip shared on X. “No more pronouns, no more climate change obsession, no more emergency vaccine mandates, no more dudes in dresses. We’re done with that s***.”
Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt praised the Supreme Court’s decision on X.
“An activist judge tried to block President Trump’s commonsense policy to ban transgender people from serving in the military,” he said. “Luckily, sanity prevailed. If you can be disqualified for asthma or a peanut allergy, the military shouldn’t have to indulge a man who thinks he’s a woman.”

Thankful for the Supreme Court decision, how very wise. Can you imagine for a split second what the military would be like if our service people had man on hormonal medication throughout their military careers/ What a time we’re living in that someone who wants to serve in the defense of our country, cannot decide on the obvious, that gender he/she was born with.

If they are confused of what gender they were born with, how can any soldier depend on them when their safety is at stake? There is a sense of rebellion against God with these people, and that defines their true character, if they can defy God, they can defy any authority & that doesn’t set well needed in the military. When in Gods name did all this trans get to be a case to be championed. School teachers teaching kids they are not the sex they are born with. And had surgical procedures done. I don’t think in grandpas time there ever was a man wanting to be a woman, if there was there weren’t many. I remember in the 1960‘s one person went to Sweden to have surgery done. That was great news then but never heard any follow up news stories about that. Till Biden came into power. They were treated to a party at the White House but the women who were killed by criminals illegally in this country were forgotten. This ban shouldn’t have never been litigated. Common sense should tell people trans people have no place in the military. They are mentally unstable. Why don’t we allow rapist and killers and mentally challenged people in the military. The three liberals sure don’t understand much about how a military fighting organization needs to function. There are a number of physical conditions that will cause one to be EXCLUDED from serving in the military. As a former military officer who spent 12 months in Vietnam in 1967-68, I can’t see how we could have used someone getting meds to support their gender transition. A high school friend from that era was not drafted because he had asthma. I can understand how people going through transition might be able to serve in non-combat situations, but the purpose of the military is to have units combat ready.
This is why they want to pack the court. Demonicrat is more than a humorous invective.
The Military is on the rebound since Transgender Policies have been banned. Hopefully we’ll have a fully functional strong Military and Leadership front and center soon. Thank you to the Supreme Court for its decision on Transgender Banning. I thought that you had to be honest to join the Military. The people that are demanding to be allowed in as a transgender of whatever have to lying about themselves, which is dishonest. It also means that the Military will have to provide all the medications needed by that person, all the time off required by surgery if not done before joining the branch of the Military, and would cause great disruption to any unit they are assigned to.
Yes! The SC has been very questionable about their adherence to our Constitution and its natural and obvious interpretation–and the Democrat appointees have been intentionally undermining it, but that is expected.

Well. On the down side, now if you don’t wanna risk your life serving in the military (and most people don’t), there will be thousands of possible draftees going trans…just what we don’t need.
This is an important victory for the military and Veterans. Transgenderism is a self-imposed condition. If allowed into the military, the already overloaded VA Healthcare system would then most likely be tasked with providing lifelong hormonal therapy to these individuals for a NON-military related condition, draining resources needed for combat and service-related conditions.
