Bill Aims to ‘Save’ Elections From Noncitizen Voting

noncitizen voting; vote button on american flag

Pointing to the combination of an open border and declining confidence in elections, congressional Republicans are backing legislation to require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.

“Due to the wide-open border that the Biden administration has refused to close, practically engineered to open, we now have so many noncitizens in the country that if only one out of 100 voted, they would cast hundreds of thousands of votes,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Wednesday during a press conference in front of the Capitol.

“Since our elections are so razor thin these days—just a few precincts in a few states decide the makeup of Congress and who is elected to the White House—this is a dangerously high number and it is a great concern to millions and millions of Americans. It could actually change the outcome of our elections,” Johnson said.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, is sponsored in the House by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, in the Senate.

The House speaker noted that about 16 million illegal aliens have entered the United States since Joe Biden took office as president.

Although it’s already illegal for these illegal immigrants to vote in federal elections, Johnson said, election officials have no mechanism to deter them from registering to vote.

“If a nefarious actor wants to intervene in our elections, all they have to do is check a box on a form and sign their name. That’s it,” Johnson said.

The legislation would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, better known as the “motor voter law,” to require that states obtain documentary proof of citizenship from someone before he or she may register to vote. It also would require states to remove noncitizens from existing voter rolls.

“The most fundamental thing you can do to destroy the rule of law and to destroy our republic is to undermine faith in elections and undermine integrity of elections by making it unclear as to who is voting and limiting our ability to know that only citizens are voting,” Roy told reporters, adding:

We are here for the proposition supported by the vast majority of the American people: that only citizens of the United States should vote, that we should have documentary proof, that we should have a system to guarantee that only citizens of the United States vote in federal elections where we have the clear authority under the Constitution of the United States, under our laws as Congress, to set the terms of those elections.

For his part, Lee argued that the one-citizen-one-vote measure should have lawmakers’ unanimous support.

“When federal law has been interpreted as precluding in many ways the voter registration officials in various states from even inquiring into someone’s citizenship when addressing voter roll issues, we have a problem,” Lee said.

“It’s legislation that really ought to pass unanimously in both houses of Congress because the only reason to oppose this—that I can think of—would be if you are comfortable with or somehow want noncitizens to vote and noncitizens in some instances to influence the outcome of elections,” the Utah Republican continued.

However, there is opposition. It’s “not true” that noncitizens are voting, Michael Waldman, president of the Brennan Center for Justice, a liberal advocacy group that opposes voter ID and other election security measures, posted on X.

Johnson announced the legislation last month while visiting former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

The press conference featuring Johnson, Lee, and Roy came one day after House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., sent a letter demanding answers from the District of Columbia Board of Elections, which allows noncitizen voting in local races. Steil’s letter inquires how the District will ensure that noncitizens can’t vote in federal elections.

“Not only is D.C. allowing noncitizens to vote, but the board is actively encouraging it,” Steil writes. “In addition to board staff hosting a virtual town hall focused on the ability of noncitizen D.C. residents to vote, the committee has received notice regarding a postcard mailed by the board to ‘residential customers’ advocating for noncitizens to register to vote in D.C. elections.”

During his remarks Wednesday, Johnson also raised the issue of jurisdictions that allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.

“A growing number of localities are blurring the lines by allowing noncitizens to vote in municipal local elections,” the House speaker said. “In cities and towns in California, Maryland, and Vermont, and even right here in D.C., you might not know this, but noncitizens are voting.”

But Jenny Beth Martin, honorary chairwoman of Tea Party Patriots Action, said at the Capitol press conference that just because it’s already illegal doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

“It’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote, but just because something is illegal doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. If you’re not a citizen, it’s illegal to enter our country without authorization. but that happens multiple millions of times every year,” Martin said. “We’re trying to get ahead of the curve here.”

Just because someone says “it’s not true” that non citizens are voting does not mean they’re correct. Hell, in Oregon our DMV gives out licenses to anybody that can fog a mirror and they are automatically registered to vote. It’s so bad that the Department of Homeland Security WON’T accept an Oregon drivers license (postponed a few times) to get on an airplane because they’re basically useless! You have to pay extra for a ‘real ID’ drivers license if you don’t possess a passport.

All those non citizen that register to vote should be deported. Everyone registering to vote should have to bring documentation to proof they are qualified to register to vote. You have to show documentation to qualify for a loan. Rent a place. Get utilities turned on. And the most important of them all to vote for president for this country allows every one in, no proof of who you are, where you live, just vote. Every person gets a certificate of citizenship when they become a naturalized citizen. They can bring that if they go to register to vote, if they don’t have a passport. There is no problem with getting ID’s for anyone in this country. Ole Joe did away with ID’s in hospitals and banks. Just to justify that minorities couldn’t get ID’s. Of course if you make a mandate like that you have created the problem, to the advantage of the dems. Buying votes is next. Win an election at all cost. With money, lies, and obstructing opponents. Any opponent. Sham trials a fifth grader can see it is a sham. And still there are people out there that vote for this man and the one behind the scene. O. He who has hated America when he was just a grasshopper at his father’s knee.

Of course it is true. I hope the bill has wording in it that any government official that promotes illegals to vote is committing an act of treason against the United States of American.
We are a country of aliens that came here legally. To allow their/our vote to become diluted is a crying shame.

Michael Stevens is correct. California is the same way. When I lived there I would talk to the staff at my election station and they said they knew of many many times per election cycle that people would come in and vote using someone else’s voting creds and would even come in more than one time per day to vote. To say it doesn’t happen is willful ignorance and not to have to produce a passport or birth certificate is election engineering, plain and simple. THe Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for trying to steal elections and using lawfare against candidates. Their dishonesty knows no bounds.

That is exactly why the Democrats have been flooding the country with illegal aliens. They are going to force that through one way or another! They cannot win unless they cheat and lie. If illegal immigrants are allowed to vote there will never be another election Republicans can win. The next step is going to have to going to have to be a violent Revolution. If illegal immigrants are allowed to vote heard about 75 million Americans that will vote with their guns

Question. How many years are these people leading from behind, knowing that this will not happen unless we replace the whole diaper load of them?
Think back to the Motor Voters deal with Obama and then WE WARNED THEM THEN THAT IT’S HAPPENING. BUT NNOOOO. THEY WERE SILENT AND COMPROMISED.

Non-citizens should NEVER be allowed to vote in our elections. It makes no sense at all to allow people who are not citizens to have a say in the future direction of our nation, and never has. Those here illegally are even worse! Frankly, I never realized that non-citizens were not barred from voting until the last few years, and reading our Constitution it seems that each state is permitted to make that determination. In today’s world, that is madness and a constitutional amendment is seriously needed to ensure only citizens are allowed to vote.

Everyone connected to permitting open borders are traitors…and deserve the fate of traitors. There have been many instances, where the current administration and Congress have acted against the best interests of American Citizens…and have not adhered to the Constitution, which is the Law of the Land. Ignorance of the Law is no excuse…and they must be punished!

For years, the warnings against Motor Voter efforts have fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps now, in the face of the current illegal alien crisis, such ears might become unclogged.

This voting by illegals is criminal, and no less so than “President” Biden’s “no-chain-of-ballot-custody-election-fraud” of 2020. Biden is nothing but an incorrigible degenerate who should spend the rest of his days in a prison cell, accompanied by a “frisky-promiscuous” cell-mate named “Bubba”.

It’s difficult to say this but since Jan 2020 I have not trusted anything said or done by this puppet commie administration, it’s justice system, it’s fbi and cia, military leaders, homeland security, transportation or any/all of it’s departments. My faith in our congressional members to fulfill their duties according to the Constitution and the taxpayer’s wishes has also been shaken, partly due to all the infighting and support/influence of lobbyists. I pray this bill passes unanimously in both houses but obidenama will surely veto it to assure his re-election. We do NOT need illegal aliens voting for ANY political office, state or federal, and we do NOT need obidenama granting immediate citizenship to ANY illegal aliens who crossed our border or who he flew into the USA!!! As a citizen of Illinois where there is only one party rule, Democrats know they are only one step away from complete dictatorship of the USA. This is fueled by the apathy of Republican/Conservative voters, ignorance, and the reality that once there is one party rule, that party no longer needs the approval of voters.

Everyone born in America has a birth certificate and everyone who legally goes through the process to become a citizen has a certificate. Maybe until we know election voting is back to just citizens voting, this should be considered our ID. Also, paper ballots should be used in every state with in person voting. The only citizens that would use an absentee ballot would be those unable to make vote in person due to being incapacitated in some way, not allowing them to leave their homes. Also, those who are deployed for the military should be allowed an absentee ballot. There also needs to be verification that an absentee ballot is required. It’s time to get rid of the expanded criteria for absentee voting “no-excuse absentee voting”, the pandemic is over.

Only a true American would vote for this legislation. Those that oppose it have an ulterior motive of allowing them to vote. If you notice that only the liberal people want open borders but not in their back yards. They have no problem with the illegals coming in as long as they stay away from them. Vote for America. The land of the free because of the brave. I love The LORD and the USA……..

There is a lot of Malarky floating around the requiring a photo ID to vote is racist. Do you know anyone without a picture ID? You need one to fly, open a bank account, get medical care, get a passport , and on and on. If you don’t have one, most DMV locations offer one for little or no cost. To oppose this bill is un AMERICAN!

They’re already allowed to vote in local elections in several states and cities. Wiggle them in at that level and we’re lost already….just as we have been lost by allowing the infiltration of foreign enemy nationals into our school boards, township and county boards, state jobs, and into our federal House of Rep and Senate and the White House. It’s like the frog in the boiling water. We have stood aside and allowed this to happen and have no one to blame but ourselves. Though I like millions of other patriots, simply don’t know what to do when contacting your elected ‘leaders’ fails miserably because they have failed us miserably.

Considering the fact that Speaker Johnson has sided with the progressive socialist Democrats on every major piece of legislation since being given the Speaker’s gavel, why should we believe him when he says he’s concerned about integrity in voting and the need to pass a bill that would insure non-citizens don’t vote? We now know that he will promise one thing and then turn around and betray that promise in favor of siding with the opposition. This new bill, the SAVE Act, is a necessary one as the political left continues to ignore all the other voting laws that are already on the books. The trick here will be getting the bill passed in either the House or the Senate as McConnell will cave to Schumer and that will kill it in the Senate and Speaker Johnson, who is cozy with the Democrat majority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, will probably cave when push comes to shove.
