The Restrict Act is legislation that would limit national security risks by empowering the Department of Commerce to block transactions involving foreign information and communications technology. The Act would make it easier for the U.S. government to ban or force the sale of specific software or equipment from certain countries if they pose an espionage threat. The bill’s proponents cite TikTok as an example of this threat.

What are your thoughts on this Act?

Kudos AMAC for providing a poll that requires a little research before voting.

I believe it’s a lie that TicTok is a threat to our government. The threat is the information we share that the news sensors.

A poll on a proposed bill should provide a link to the bill so it can easily be read before voting.

Why not just ban Tik-Tok? This bill would give the government power that would not conform to the constitution. There are too many concerns with this bill that sounds like it is being sold on us that it’s needed to control foreign adversaries but it leaves the decisions open to be political.

My thought is Tik Toc should be banned. It is another method used by the CCP to gather information.

Did you know that not once is tiktok mentioned in the bill? It will open the door to massive censorship of Americans.

The POWER HUNGRY GOVERNMENT has lied to us and abused the power and trust that we gave them to the extent that I wouldn’t let any GOVERNMENT official walk me across the street! I want to take power back from such self serving degenerates.

China’s Tik Tok should be forced to be sold to an American run person or corporation or shut down if not. The restrict act gives too much power to the government. Vote no to this bill. Create a bill for TikTok only to force a sale or terminate. The rest should not be involved in this bill.

If I believed that the US government was truly concerned about the welfare and safety of the American people, then I would likely support the bill. But our government is far more interested in finding new ways to restrict our Constitutional liberties. They’re actively working to stifle our 1A and 2A rights, so why not screw us by messing with our 4A right? Remember, the Marxist goal isn’t interested in protecting freedom … it’s interesting in enslaving nations.

Don’t fall for the smoke and mirrors.

TikTok is bad for many reasons, not just spying. Specific legislation may be reasonable. General legislation such as this gives nearly unlimited power to bureaucrats. The terrible, mis-named patriot act is an example of such terrible legislation.

Masks, vaccines, gas stoves, tail-pipe exhaust, electric vehicles, water allowance in clothes washers, subsidize poor-credit homebuyers, and now …. software. What’s next? A limit on number of children per family? Food and fuel Rations? It’s all in the plan … keep saying “yes” and keep losing your freedoms. Look at the intrusive mess we have now. Just think how your children and grandchildren will live. They won’t believe that grandma and grandpa actually owned their own home. Wake up.

This bill reminds me of the bills that were passed after 911 that allowed them to invade our privacy. The Government told us that unless we were doing something illegal we had nothing to worry about.
Then 22years later we find that the government uses that bill to spy on us, their political enemies whenever they want to. The safety net was that they would have to go to a judge first. They just lie to them.
DON’T TRUST THE GOVERNMENT!! THEY ONLY WANT TO STAY IN POWER

After Covid, the stolen 2020 election, the way January 6, 2021 was handled, Hunter Biden’s laptop, spying on Trump, the Steele dossier, the Biden crime family, continuous harassment of Trump and his family, the totally corrupt alphabet agencies, Democraps in general, and the incompetent freak show of an administration, just to name a few. Why would anyone believe the government could possibly make the Restrict Act work correctly?

How can anyone support anything that this joke of an administration puts out? Anything that the current government puts out lacks common sense, and continues to weaken our status a world power. Biden and his gang of idiots continue to lie, and destroy this country daily. If you like Socialism this is a taste of what you are in for if these jackasses stay in power. Republicans must unify and fight back and stop taking this crap..

My experience w/ gov’t: Give them an inch & the steal a mile. The Un-Patriot Act is an example. Was to be a temporary measure but its invasive anti-privacy measures have become permanent, giving gov’t too much power to bash our privacy in violation of the Privavy Act of 1974

This appears to say our NSA prefers to do surveillance of Americans and want to take over TikTok because they threaten their monopoly on collecting data on Americans. Where are the so-called cyber security experts on this issue? Not that their assessment is accurate because they claim 2020 was the safest most secure election ever! ????

Ditto the other comments. I do think we need to be careful about “national cybersecurity” but is this “act” the right way to go about it? I don’t think so. I don’t trust our current administration one bit. I believe their overall goal is to silence their critics.

Blunting China’s penetration of our society is always a good idea, but the devil is in the detail and the limitations. The Inflation Reduction Act sounded good, until we learned it was just another climate change bill. The Patriot Act was a good idea, until it was abused by bad actors to spy on American citizens who do not agree with a prevailing narrative. Our federal institutions are now too corrupted to give more power to the central government. TikTok is an obvious threat that could be neutralized by an informed public without government intrusion. Unfortunately, too many people are too underinformed and willfully ignorant.

A larger, more intrusive, addition to an already bloated and inefficient government bureaucracy is NOT what America needs.
America needs to THROW OUT the marxist democrat party,ALL politicians and bureaucrats who despise and destroy Our Country.
The politicians DO NOT rule over Citizens, they are merely government employees working FOR Us.
They DO NOT give or take away Our God given Rights or Freedom!

It doesn’t take laws and massive corrupt bureaucracies to stop these “over the counter” threats. The companies selling them (apple, google, android, and others) don’t need government orders to remove them from their stores and phones, if they actually cared.

This bill should be specific to TikTok….and that is it.

NO MORE 4000 page bills. AND only attack the threat at hand TIK TOK

If the federal government has proved anything in the last ten years it’s that they will abuse any power given to them. Corruption, fraud; and criminality are the hallmarks of our elected officials. There is no accountability and true justice doesn’t exist. No, this is a path to electronic disarmament of the people and unprecedented financial oppression of political opponents.

Unfortunately, I remember when George W. Bush pushed the Patriot Act which exposed Americans personal information to hackers as we were forced to share our mother’s maiden name, social security number, and driver’s license to banks! This was an invasion of privacy and the government has used this Act to spy on everyday Americans! It seems as though everything they do is done for a devious intent upon the citizens of this Nation. Personally, I am opposed to giving our government more power. In typical fashion, they keep trying to fix the problem on the wrong end. Stop the foreign invasion; stop allowing Communist Countries to purchase American soil and companies; stop allowing Communist Countries to have control over our drugs, food and other products! Our government has set us up to be held hostage by these foreign countries!! And I’m opposed!!

This is basically the Patriot Act on steroids–the entire act needs read to fully understand just how invasive it is to American rights. Answers 4 and 5 are basically the same. Nice to see the majority of folks actually getting it! The government is no longer trusted as it used to be and that is probably a good thing!
