A Senate report “What’s Working for Older Workers” was released this week. Americans are “unretiring” and increasingly turning to the “gig” economy to get by. Which comes closest to your situation?

It appears most of us conservative retirees planned well enough to make it in a bad economy. But we should not be suffering with a bad economy at all. It’s only bad for devious the purposes of the dimorcat/communist party in charge at this time. They’re quest for absolute and forever power has gotten so out of hand, they don;t even care who knows what they are doing and how they’re doing it! I pray daily for God’s people to join together and retake this once great country and MAGA!

I’m retired living off of a military retirement and social security. But I moved overseas where the dollar is worth more. Finding and buying American food here is more expensive, however, the overall cost of living is much cheaper. In the US would be very difficult. It’s sad that old soldiers have to move to third world countries to live.

Many “older” Americans are FORCED to UNRETIRE because Jackass Joe is RUNNING THE ECONOMY into the ground! It’s NOT A PREFERENTIAL CHOICE, it’s more of a NECESSARY CHOICE!!!

We are returning to s similar economy we experienced in the 1970s, that was enhanced by Jimmy Carter. All the hallmarks are present today. You can expect, along with escalating higher inflation, the following: increased interest rates, increased government spending, difficult to obtain credit, high unemployment, high taxes, stock market flatlining (that is, trading within a narrow range like it did from 1973 to 1981), and various commodity shortages (remember the gas lines?). Since the far left controls the news media (print & broadcast), the education system (K through graduate school), social media, the “administrative state,” most of the court system, The Presidency, and The US Senate, there is very little chance that the public can be educated to the fact that this country is deteriorating. Couple that with the upcoming 2024 Pre-ordained Presidential Selection Confirmation year, where Biden WILL win re-election (that is, if he gets the Democratic nomination), and you have the formula for the continued destruction of our free republic. Yes, I’ll say it: The 2020 presidential election was rigged. I watched the legislative hearings on the internet for 14+ hours and saw the evidence. Notice that it was NEVER broadcasted ANYWHERE on mainstream media!! The America we once knew is disappearing. Sad… very sad…

I am one of those “older workers” who has returned to work via contract and gig labor. I had always intended to work part-time, just to stay mentally active. However, now that the Biden policies have quite literally robbed me of 3 years of income (the reduction in my IRA account), work is more of a “have to” instead of a “want to.” Technology has allowed me to work from my home, which is great, but needing to work at least 30 hours a week is far different than wanting to work 30 hours a week.

I am 78- retired 9 years and was doing great under Trump administration. Still hanging in there despite Jackass Joey’s version of How to Destroy the Economy. Feel very sorry for anyone who voted for this trainwreck, and it will not get better until he and minions are voted out. Disgusting situation.

I am not yet retired but plan to this year regardless of my financial situation. I no longer like my current company where I have worked for over 37 years because they have become woke. I may have to find a part time job closer to home but they will not be woke.

Retired from healthcare in 2018, after almost 50 years in radiography. Seeing what they’ve done to the field in the name of covid, I’ll NEVER go back. I’d be too ashamed to be part of that sh*t show and my tolerance for administrative stupidity is exhausted. Even let my certs expire. Not spending money on the “continuing education credits” money grab just to maintain them.
Instead, my “other job” is gigging with a classic rock band on the weekends. Downsized all my equipment, so it’s minimal “heavy” lifting.
“Work smarter, not harder”…avoid the bs…live longer.
Who wants pie?

Yes recently retired, but we will need to watch from here to see where things go. Inflationary pressures unchecked could necessitate adjustments or a lot of PB&J’s in our later years.

I’m a self-employed commercial photographer of 38 years. I created my own “401K” with some rental units. I love what I do (I’m 67) and don’t have any plans to quit in the immediate future. That said, we do need the work to offset the skyrocketing prices making this more expensive and the rampant “gubment” spending by the idiots who have no concept of work, have devaluated our dollar so it is worth less… or say it really fast… worthless! Things were good for us when Trump was president and went downhill fast with the idiot biden.

I want to retire next year at age 67. The stress from work and lack of time off are wearing me down. Who knows if I can afford it or not but would rather retire than drop dead from a heart attack.

I was laid off 4 months before my 61st birthday (5 years ago) and have not been able to find suitable employment since. The age discrimination in Upstate NY is ridiculous! Only work anyone my age can get is in a grocery store or other retail store.

Been retired for 18 years. Was doing well until Biden. Cost of living has skyrocketed and SS and pension are not keeping up. Have really had to hit my IRAs hard to be able to keep the bills paid.
We could really use some adult leadership in Washington.

My option was not listed. I WAS retired and doing ok. I had gone back to school to finish getting my degree. My plan was to work from home for some income and was looking forward to finally being free to devote some time to my garden. I wanted to set up a “farmers market” and enjoy the deliciousness of home grown veggies.

Then my lying-cheating-husband thought that was a good time to leave. My retirement funds from my 25-year career was just about cut in half because I was in no position to sell and buy another house as I had no job and I have a credit card that is my “student loan”, and I needed to buy a vehicle. So, I HAD to return to the workforce.

School was, once again, put on hold. So was the garden, the farmers market, and my dream to have my own company. I just had to survive. I worked three jobs to keep afloat until I was able to get ssdi. Because the jerk was on the deed to my home I had to refinance it which increases the mortgage amount. This plan was “functioning” for 4 years until the virus furloughed me from two of those jobs. The third job is working the elections which is only on even years, so not steady income.

All this was “functioning” (not living) until dementia-joe lied and cheated his way to the White House. We all know what happened when he took over and destroyed all the good President Trump had done.

Now I work at a library with many “was retired” people. This is the trend now. Everyone knows ssdi/ssi does not afford people with a livable income and it must be supplemented because it never keeps up with the inflation rate or the whims of a maniacal-dementia-riddled-idiot who is “president”. With the (not so) “great reset” threat looming large, I really have to prepare in advance for a lot of that destruction of America that is coming.

None of this was my plan for retirement. I am sure I am not alone in this. I, and many others, will most likely have to keep working well into our later years just to keep food on the table and the lights on. This is a very sad time for Americans. I just pray people wake up and vote intelligently in 2024. Some impeachments in the very near future would be a wonderful thing as well!

Retired and ‘OK’… for now, but investment strength is key to how long that remains true. Unfortunately, under the current administration’s economic and foreign policy guidance(?), I don’t foresee a substantial recovery anytime soon.

Therefore, I have chosen to take on a part time ‘gig’ at a local golf course with a side benefit of free golf in addition to a few extra spending dollars for the monthly budget. NOT because I must, but because it provides a few more desirable options.

And by the way, when will it cease to be popular to discriminate on the basis of age in the workplace?

In my opinion and in conversations with others of a similar age, it seems clear that HR departments across the country have excelled at redefining jobs held by highly experienced, senior associates such that performance reviews have become highly subjective. This has opened the door for an inordinate number of ‘performance plans’ for senior associates that often leads to demotion, forced early retirement, or termination based primarily on an opinion, not facts.

From the corporate perspective, it seems this has become a favored form of labor reduction that provides the CFO’s with improved (if short lived) ‘profits’. This then allows them to hire a greater number of inexperienced people for the same or lower total labor costs.

But conversely, perhaps they’ve also alienated their most productive resource at a time when the political environment has rubber-stamped NOT working among the target demographics for new hiring efforts.

My husband and I are retired and doing so, so thus far. This is definitely not the country we grew up in and we feel sorry for those who have grandchildren and also the younger generation of today. If we don’t get rid of Biden and Harris and many other Democrats real soon, we won’t have a country to save and the children and the younger generation will have to pay the consequences for the rest of their lives. As I have stated many times before, we need to Impeach Biden and Harris, and make McCarthy president until 2024 until President Trump can get back in the WH. Mr. Trump is the only true choice to get us back to America First, Secure Borders, a Great Economy, Lowest Gas Prices by being Energy Independent (Drill, Baby Drill!!!!! – Pipe lines, etc.), Fair Trade Deals, Making China pay, keeping other countries in check and so much more!!!! Putin behaved, China behaved, even “Little Rocket Man” behaved while Mr. Trump was president and all the other countries had to start paying their fair share in the United Nations, remember all these things? America was respected, none of the other countries wanted to cross President Trump, they knew he said what he meant, and he did what he said, period!!!!!!! Let’s get him back quick!!!! Get rid of Biden and Harris quick; IMPEACH, IMPEACH, IMPEACH. Actually, if we were looking at the truth, the Biden family, and the Obama’s and the Clinton’s should all be in jail, for sure!!!!!! Let’s get real people!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan on retirement next year at age 61. 36 years with State retirement (Public Employee), savings and a small 401K. My unused PT (1200 hours) will roll into VEBA tax free and pay insurance premiums tax free with more than enough in account to get me to age 65

As a couple we are both ‘retired’, however through disability and unable to work at all. We live with our children who are also our care-givers, being adults. They earn an income from our state for the efforts to keep us inside the home and out of other managed care situations. I am hopeful this continues for some time to come, even though the kids and their spouses hold real jobs as well.

I suspect the pain will be worse for those on the cusp of retirement. Inflation has already impacted their IRAs. The Biden Admin talking about tapping into SS/medicare for thr illegal immigrants could blow up plans for retirement and the nations economic health.

My husband and I both retired at the age of 62, he was 3 years older than I. We were both working on an as needed basis as Rehab Therapists. In 2019, we took out a large Home Equity Loan. The plan was dir both of us to continue to work and pay the loan off. He passed away from cancer 10/21, which we only found out put about 10/20. Now, I have lost his income, and social security and I will need to work until I’m 90. I don’t think widows should loose their spouse’s SS. I’ll probably need to sell my house that my husband and his father built. ????

My husband and I own a small wedding business – we do have a decent stock portfolio, but with the current administration’s total disregard for seniors and our future, I feel that our savings are very unstable. The possibility of moving to a digital dollar terrifies me. I am 71 and my husband is 68 – retirement doesn’t feel like an option at this point. I would really like to volunteer more instead of being on the hamster wheel.
