WASHINGTON — As President Biden continues to lead America into fiscal insolvency, the Members of the House Freedom Caucus have adopted an official position to chart a path forward on the debt ceiling. The HFC “Shrink Washington, Grow America” framework entails significant cuts to current spending, long-term caps on future spending, and major policy changes and reforms to the wasteful, woke, and weaponized federal bureaucracy.
“The Members of the House Freedom Caucus will consider voting to raise the debt ceiling contingent upon the enactment of legislation to:
Cut current spending by ending President Biden’s $400 billion student loan bailout; rescinding all unobligated, unspent COVID-19 funds; recouping the $80 billion in IRS expansion funds, as well as billions of wasteful climate change spending in the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act;” and finding every dollar spent by Democrats that can be reclaimed for the American taxpayer.
Cap future spending by setting topline discretionary spending at the FY2022 level for 10 years, allowing for 1% annual growth. Doing so will cut $131 billion in FY2024 and save roughly $3 trillion over the long term by cutting the wasteful, woke, and weaponized federal bureaucracy. Furthermore, this enables Congress to use the appropriations process to address the many abuses and disasters caused by the Biden Administration, such as the chaos on the southern border, COVID vaccine mandates and discrimination policies, and the unconstitutional “pistol brace” ATF rule. Importantly, 10-year spending caps at the FY2022 level puts our budget on the path to balance while protecting Social Security retirement and Medicare benefits.
Grow the economy by enacting major policy changes and reforms to the wasteful, woke, and weaponized federal bureaucracy, including but not limited to:
- Curtailing burdensome regulations by requiring congressional approval under the REINS Act;
- Unleashing the production of reliable domestic energy by ending federal regulations and subsidies;
- Restoring Clinton-era work requirements on welfare programs; and
- Passing a pre-emptive Continuing Resolution with non-defense discretionary spending restored to the pre-COVID FY2019 level to force Congress to pass appropriations in a timely manner.”

The house freedom caucus is a bunch of hateful thugs who hate freedom.
Hallelujah!! Go HFC! Stop the idiotic spending of our money and get our budget balance! And please continue to help us seniors! Stop with all the freebies for illegal aliens!
This direction sounds darn good to me!
And my prayers go with you! It is this kind of thing that gives me hope we’ll someday have a sane Congress, White House.
totally agree! just hope it’s within my lifetime!
Where was the GOP outrage when Trump exploded the debt and deficit? Or the Sainted Reagan did?
We had 3 1/2 of the best years this country has had in a long time under Trump. Right up until the leftists killed it with their assinine extended lock-downs and uncontrolled spending. The last two+ years have been one major disaster after another. The Freedom Caucus’ approach is about the only thing that can save this country.
We had 4 rotten years under Trump.
The last good dem president was JFK for that he was murdered
Where are you living? Under a rock?!
In 2008 Obama declared that $8 trillion in national debt was unpatriotic but it doubled on his watch. The Trump administration raised that again to 26.9 trillion while contesting with a Democratic led Congress and a new pandemic. That doesn’t mean we should continue to float the inflation/debt balloon.
You only are about the debt when a democrat is president.
You don’t have a clue. Typical Demonrat.
The GOP was probably just fine with it, but the conservative base was not. But since we generally are ignored and censored, not much of our displeasure got heard. (This is also why conservative support for the GOP is tepid.) Second, Trump still had to work with congress, including Democrats and Rinos, so even he had to compromise on some issues. But you are right about one thing, there is little appetite for buget restraint in Washington on either side of the isle.
You’ve got a point but Washington DC isn’t going to do it by themselves. We need to vote these people out of office so in a way we’re responsible when they get re-elected. Term limits is sounding better every day. Only sad part is that there are some decent politicians who would get hurt by term limits. I’d be willing to go for it though.
They raise the spending because the Dems cut National Defense to dangerous levels, as a result they were playing catch-up for the previous (4years of Jimmy Carter, 8 years of Barry O’dumma) where they spent on social welfare, and cow ‘fart’ testing, and art work consisting of piss and poop on a canvas…. So, the 2 past presidents you site, were trying to make up for those years plus there own budget to keep the USA safe, strong and ‘Special’ among all nations.
Karl, you have just demonstrated your extreme ignorance.
About time! Stand firm! Make it happen.
The GOP was always for small government but now with Trump and DeSantis dominating everything is for as big a government as the democrats. The old school small government GOP members are now being accused of being RINOs. Are Trump and DeSantis trying to hand the country over to liberal democrats?
GOP small government? Please provide examples?
Excellent article.
Nothing wrong with what is being proposed. However, Team Biden has NO INTEREST in enacting any sort of pro-growth agenda that entails shrinking the size and scope of the federal government. That is just reality. Socialists and Marxists view an expansive, all powerful and unrestricted government as an absolute “must have” for the formation of the sort of Marxist Utopia the left seeks to create in this country. Until the American people understand that there is no middle ground between a free market orientated economy, where the government fears the people, and one based on total control by a select, small group of leftist ideologues, who rule by edicts, we will just be keep repeating this same dialogue expecting the left to “be reasonable” and meet us halfway. They won’t, because by ignoring us, they are simply ramming through whatever they want and face no real resistance or consequences from us on the other side.
Last year’s $1.7 trillion dollar omnibus bill, that was passed with the assistance of Mitch McConnell and other Globalist RINOs in the Senate, established a new baseline budget for the United States based on the insane spending levels over the last 2 years. We went from a normal baseline of $4.4 trillion dollars a year to now $6.3 trillion as the new baseline from which all future budgets will be calculated. That’s a permanent uplift in federal spending going forward for those of you that don’t understand how the federal budget process works. Biden’s just released proposed federal budget and associated new taxes and regulations reflects our new fiscal reality. Which is an anti-growth agenda where the Democrats just want to spend more and more on all manner of “progressive” programs and societal changes until they completely confiscate the total accumulated private wealth of the nation. We will be running trillion-dollar deficits each and every year going forward, with our national debt exploding upward until our economy finally collapses by 2034 or 2035.
Agree.
Amen, Amen!
