Back in the early 80’s, late one night I was in a Walgreens and i turned a corner and ran into this guy. I looked up…..and up….and up….and it was Joe Green. He started apologizing, as did I, and then we just laughed. We chatted for a few minutes. He was there looking for some Christmas decorations.
He was so nice, just a regular kind of guy, much gentler than I expected. Super nice guy!

I had to guess on all but one question and got three answers right. The one I knew was the commercial where the little boy gave Mean Joe Green his Coke – and got Joe’s jersey in return.

I skipped the quiz this week. I have no interest in the Super Bowl. Who’s playing this year? Is it Portland State and Gonzaga again?

1/10 – no hints – 1 more than what I expected. I stopped watching football when they got rid of the REAL 1/2 time entertainment. I’m also against grown ups getting paid tons of $$$ for a game that kids play in school better than they do, so they can do a stupid dance in the end zone.

“Mean” Joe Green was a pushover for little kids, just like me. Jack Lambert was known for throwing a Cliff Harris down the field about 15 yards, after a missed field goal (it was ruled NECESSARY ROUGHNESS). That sparked the Steelers to rally from behind and to VICTORY. After Apollo 13 NASA temporarily forbade the use of the number 13, using 41 Charlie instead. When they told the score to the astronauts coming back from the moon in 1971, they told the crew, and the world, it was Baltimore 16, Dallas 41…….Charlie.

I beat Steve M. and got only 1 right. I’d make the same comment. Lost interest in professional sports years ago when it became all about show biz and players weren’t accountable for behavior off field. I got the one about the frogs croaking the commercial for Bud! Not even about the Super Bowl question.

This was a first, I got none right! I do watch some football, but don’t get into the historical statistics and don’t care. I enjoy watching the plays, it’s fairly new to me.

I got three right, and one of those was a guess. I remember the Mean Joe Green Coke commercial, and the only reason I knew which team had a perfect season and won the Super Bowl in 1973 is that one of their quarterbacks was the brother to one of my high school teachers.

The only commercials I remembered were the Clydesdales horses playing football, with the horse kicking the extra point, and the cowboys saying “they normally go for two”.

Surprised I got even 4 right since I don’t watch football. The only one I was sure of was the one with the Buffalo Bills as an answer. I’m from Buffalo originally, and anyone who lives there or still has family there knows what the Bills are doing.
