I thought their state motto was “Slip me a hundred and I’ll approve your request” John Bass 5 months ago 7/10 Not so good. I avoid the state of Illinois like the plague, I don’t care too much for their liberal policies. J. Oh no 5 months ago Vote early and often in chicago Julia 5 months ago Lived in IL most of my life, then moved to MO in 2017. Can’t believe I missed three of these. Illinois is all about Lincoln, had no idea Ronald Reagan was born there. I can’t find the humor is Chicago being the meat packing place. Jim 5 months ago Maybe I’m being a little picky, but on question number 7, I-55 is an interstate, not a highway. Other than that question, I did terrible, LOL. SUSAN R 5 months ago I really don’t know Illinois Mike L 5 months ago No questions on whose cow started the Chicago fire? or about St Valentine’s Day Massacre? Or that both airports in Chicago (Midway & O’Hare) are based on World War II Events? Sam 5 months ago 9/10. Illinois. Who cares…? Dan 5 months ago 50/50.. govt. leaves a lot to be desired. Just stay away from Chi-Town at all costs! Paul Lubell 5 months ago Basically, to know the motto of a state, you have to have gone to elementary school there. Like many others, I missed only that one. Narrowed it down to two and selected the wrong one. As for who was born in Illinois, most of know that Lincoln was born in Kentucky, but if you answer quickly . . . Truth Manhattan 5 months ago 9/10. I thought the state motto was a trick question so I chose “Liberty & Independence” for the obvious irony. It should be “Live Free Or Stay Here.” ROBERT 5 months ago Incredible!!!!! 10 of 10, with a lucky guess on the motto. Lana 5 months ago I missed the state motto. jimmy 5 months ago 10 Out Of 10 Claydog 5 months ago 8/10 I could kick myself for answering Lincoln because I knew he was born in Kentucky. Goforth 5 months ago 10 out of 10, & I don’t live in Ill., never have Kreu 5 months ago tzzzable’s comment was the best! I got all 10, a rarity, and have only driven through the state a few times, never stopped, or wanted to; can’t stand Chicago. I credit it to my reading and love of American history, as once long ago, Chicago was “the (real) wild west,” a cowboy town that came to be because of the railway head for herding cattle to slaughterhouses there for shipment east. Beca 5 months ago Thinking as I guessed ‘what’ the motto could be since I didn’t learn it in history class – but considered the impact of the Civil War, date Illinois entered statehood, etc. Just didn’t consider the temperature of the Madison vs State Rights battle at its time of statehood The official state motto of Illinois is “State Sovereignty, National Union.” This motto was controversial after the Civil War when national unity was of prime importance. However, the Illinois legislature commanded that the motto remain the same, but the new design for the state seal and flag positioned the scroll so that “National Unity” is at the top. It remains unchanged and appears on the Illinois state seal and state flag lilly 5 months ago 5/10 Thomasz 3 months ago 10 out of 10 as an Illinois native, I hadn’t heard of that motto, but took a guess and got it right Cynthia 5 months ago This is my 3rd quiz today and I finally got 10 out of 10 and one of them was a pure guess that I got right which was the state motto. I had no idea what it was and I picked the right answer! State sovereignty, national union. Finally I guessed right! I lived in Illinois for the first 19 years of my life so I’m glad I did myself proud! Melinda 5 months ago Only 7/10. Don’t know much about that side of the country, especially the highways.
