RVs are recreational vehicles that people use for transportation and accommodations. These fun vehicles are generally outfitted with comfortable amenities such as kitchen and dining spaces, bathrooms, living and sleeping areas and more. Whether you’re headed on a long trip, or a short vacation, RVing offers a unique way to travel America. While RV life is well suited for some, it takes adventurous souls to embark on this fun journey.

Today’s retirees often enjoy life on the road and the freedom to travel around the country or stay put in a favorite spot or campground. Buying an RV and planning time on the road is a big commitment. However, there are many benefits to RVing including seeing new destinations or meeting up with friends, family, or fellow RVers with whom they have much in common. There is a big camaraderie among RVers and many get to know one another socially. RVing also grants people time to enjoy in nature and the great outdoors, from Colorado’s Rocky Mountains to the flatter Outerbanks of North Carolina’s shore.

RVs come in a variety of styles and sizes and are divided into classes, A, B and C. Let’s examine the differences. Class A motorhomes range in size from 29 to 45 feet in length and offer some luxuries including full kitchens and multiple sleeping quarters. Class B is a smaller body size and are built on a van chassis to navigate small roads. Most feature kitchenettes as opposed to larger kitchen spaces. Class C is between the other two classes. Per Transwest RVs, these are usually the same size as a moving truck and offer a blend of the luxury Class A with the maneuverability of Class B.

Rather than buy an RV outright, it’s important to know that you’ll enjoy the experience. Consider renting one along with some basic equipment such as dishes and cooking equipment, a grill to prepare food outdoors, weather resistant tables and chairs, and an outdoor canopy as examples. You may also seek out an RV with a water-filtration system. Before you go, do your homework by reading RV articles such as weigh station protocols for RVs, terms, and rules you should know, heating tips to stay warm, traveling with pets and more. Also read guides on RV brands and manufacturers to gain insight into pricing, value, reliability, durability, handling, unique amenities, floor plans and more.

RVs are a huge investment in fun and in price. They typically cost between $35,000 on the low end for an older used model to $300,000 for a newer luxury model. With the price of gas up, this can affect one’s travel budget and how much time is spent on the road. Despite the cost, most people who RV describe the experience as one unlike any other. RV trips offer freedom on the highway and the chance of a lifetime to visit nearly all U.S. states and enjoy exciting destinations such as National Parks and hidden spots across America – from Alaska to Maine.
