The Pantone Color of the Year was introduced in the year 2000 as a trendsetting concept for branding. Over time, it evolved into the huge annual color trends we see in products on the market today. New colors are inspiring; thus, consumers often wish to incorporate them into their homes. However, most people cannot afford to redecorate annually. For those seeking color change without a huge expense, pops of vibrancy can easily be incorporated with minimal paint changes and by adding art and accessories to the home’s interior.
1) Interior paint – choose a neutral base (white, ivory, cream, tan, gray) and add color via an accent wall, one that is different from the others and acts as a focal point. Should one wish to change the color every year or two, only the accent wall needs to be repainted.
2) Artwork – paintings, drawings, tapestries, murals, stained glass, and other wall hangings are great ways to introduce color into a home. Whether you choose to display a large collection or just a few small pieces, art can largely impact a room, especially one with an otherwise neutral décor scheme. Consider buying pieces of art that you can rotate seasonally or swap from one room to another to change your space’s colors and mood.
3) Home accessories – If you wish to make color changes while avoiding the high cost, home accessories are the best way to go. These are the simple little touches that add warmth and small pops of color throughout a home. When staged correctly, these special trimmings can make a huge impact on a space. To keep costs down, consider using neutral walls and furnishings as the room’s base. Then, begin adding color via inexpensive and changeable accessories such as throw pillows, blankets, rugs, window treatments, and more. In a dining room, display coordinating placemats, plates, and glassware in your new color theme.
Pantone’s 2021 Colors of the Year are entitled Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. One is a perfect pale gray neutral, and the other is an uplifting, vibrant yellow. The use of the two colors is a great way to update an interior space, stay on-trend, and add warmth to home décor. Not a fan of gray and yellow? Don’t fret, for it won’t be long before the new hues for 2022 hit the scene!
