Wish to welcome the fall season with some fun autumnal-themed decorations? Here are five fun fall decorating ideas that will make friends believe you’ve transformed into an expert decorator!

These crafts can be made easily and inexpensively. Most products can be found at a local craft or hobby store – or even in your home or yard.

  1. Homemade floral pumpkins – Buy several plastic pumpkins from a local craft or hobby store. Also get a large bag of artificial flowers in fall colors. Cut off the plastic stems. Using hot glue, attach the flowers to the pumpkin in an eye-pleasing design. Be as creative as you wish, gluing other items like pretty ribbons or artificial butterflies to your creation. Or go the spooky route by hot gluing plastic bats or spiders to your pumpkins. Place your finished pumpkins on windowsills to welcome (or spook) guests!
  2. Colorful leaf arrangements – Purchase several inexpensive vases from a craft store (or use ones you already own or find at yard sales). Also buy a large bag of fake autumn leaves. Search your yard for a handful of long, thin, and clean twigs. Cut them to the proper length to fit your vase and serve as stems. Paint the twigs with a clear stain (or paint) and let them dry. Then, hot glue the leaves randomly toward the middle and top of the twigs. Place them into your vase (undecorated side down) and display leaf arrangements on the mantle for autumn cheer!
  3. Fall themed burlap table runner – Buy a burlap runner or create your own using fabric. Be sure it is long enough to extend down the sides of the table. Buy several strands of fall garland (enough to match the length of the burlap).  Using a sturdy needle and heavy-duty thread, sew the garland strand down the center of the garland lengthwise from end to end. Top tips: Measure and mark beforehand. Take care to hand sew it in a straight line down the middle. Guests at your fall table will be amazed at your table runner centerpiece!
  4. Paint a sunflower – Using acrylic paints, a paintbrush, and a small canvas, paint a sunflower to remind you of fall. First paint the background light blue. Once it dries, break out the yellow paint and paint a giant sunflower. Need a little direction? Check out this YouTube video: Painting for Beginners, Paint a Sunflower. Once complete, hang it on your wall or lean it up on your shelf. Or, if you’re in the giving spirit, gift it to a friend or relative.
  5. Pinecone picture frame – Search for tiny pinecones or purchase them by the bag at a craft store.  Hot glue them to an inexpensive brown or black wooden photo frame. (Check your dollar store for deals!) For a natural look, make sure that the pinecones are glued close together to cover the frame. These make excellent host/hostess or holiday gifts.

Being fun & festive!

These five fun fall decorating ideas show that crafting doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. All it requires is a little time, effort, and creativity. Whether you keep and display what you make, or decide to gift it, your friends and family are sure to marvel at your talent.
