This bill reduces the tax burden on federal benefits for millions of seniors and allows them to receive the full compensation they were promised.

The Honorable Thomas Massie
Kentucky 4th Congressional District
2453 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Massie:

On behalf of the 2.3 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), I am writing in support of the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act. This legislation will help millions of seniors nationwide by eliminating tier I railroad retirement benefits and Social Security benefits when calculating annual gross income.

Every year, millions of seniors become eligible for either Social Security or tier I railroad retirement benefits. After working for decades, paying taxes on their hard-earned income to fund these federal programs, some seniors are forced to pay income tax on the benefits they receive from the federal government. Taxing benefits which were created from already taxed funds is nonsensical and curtails retirement benefits seniors have been promised. Seniors deserve to reap the full benefits of their hard work from career-long contributions to Social Security and the Railroad Retirement Plan.

The Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act will amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to remove the inclusion of tier I railroad retirement benefits and Social Security benefits in an individual’s gross income. As this legislation takes effect, seniors will notice their tax liability is significantly reduced. Seniors will no longer be burdened with the “double tax” on their federally earned benefits.

As an organization committed to representing seniors, AMAC supports efforts to protect our members. We applaud you, Congressman Massie, and your attentive staff, for providing a timely solution to help cash-strapped seniors receive the full federal benefits they were promised. AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s full support to the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom

President, AMAC Action

Double taxation is double taxation regardless of the subterfuge to justify it. Note the common name on the two times it was first introduced and then increased is Joe Biden. We need this legislation now to correct a gross injustice in a huge double tax being collected.

Retired teachers in Texas who qualify for SS are penalized if they get TRS . It is supposedly a windfall . Not all states have this problem. It creates a hardship for my husband and I.

Retirees have suffered for years under burdensome double taxation. Further, seniors SSA cola’s have fallen further and further behind inflation. Since May of ‘20 till now gas prices have shot up over 100%. Driving prices of food, medicine and other necessities up accordingly. We don’t want to be a burden on society and simply want to pay our own way. Please help us do that by eliminating this tax.

It’s has become so hard to survive with the amount of taxes we havetopay. I’ve had to get a part time job tp make ends meet. If I hadn’t I wouldn’t be able to pay for my Medicare advantage plan or my meds or food.

The act is common sense to everyone, except in Washington.

As a retired (twice!) senior citizen I fully support the Senior Citizen Tax Elimination Act. It is unconscionable that those of us who’ve worked at 1, 2, even 3 careers in some cases, should be required to continue to pay taxes to a government that refuses to reign in unchecked irresponsible spending. Government should stop giving our tax dollars to illegal aliens and countries that hate us! Take care of American citizens FIRST!

Biden’s government is a disaster for seniors!! We can’t keep up with increases on a fixed income! Many will lose their homes!

When I was growing up some 60 years I remember learning in school that double taxation was illegal but thanks to liberals that has changed. They just want to line their own pockets so seniors be damned
