The Honorable Andrew R. Garbarino
2nd Congressional District of New York
2344 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Congressman Garbarino,
On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens,
and our more than 2 million members, I am writing to express our strong support for the Protect Our
Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2023, which ensures that
assaulting a law enforcement officer becomes a deportable offense under the Immigration and
Nationality Act. This legislation is not only timely but also necessary to address the growing risks faced
by our brave law enforcement officers due to the ongoing border crisis.
Our law enforcement officers, whether patrolling Long Island or the southern border, are the first line of
defense in maintaining the safety and security of our communities. The POLICE Act sends a powerful
message that violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated. It ensures that non-citizens who
assault officers face swift and decisive consequences, including deportation. This measure is critical to
supporting our law enforcement officers, who risk their lives daily to uphold the law and protect our
neighborhoods from threats such as human traffickers, gang members, and other dangerous criminals
exploiting the border crisis.
I am encouraged by the bipartisan support your bill has received and by the commitment of your
colleagues, including Representatives Malliotakis, Smith, Cammack, Miller-Meeks, Bishop, and Meuser,
to prioritize the safety of our communities and the well-being of our law enforcement officers.
I urge Congress to act quickly to pass the POLICE Act. Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to law
enforcement, and this legislation is an important step in ensuring their safety and holding violent
offenders accountable.
Thank you for your dedication to this critical issue and for your steadfast support of our law enforcement
officers.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Weber
