Dear Senators Hawley, Hassan, and Scott,
On behalf of the 2.2 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, we are pleased to support enactment of S 4158, the “PPE Supply Chain Transparency Act of 2020.”
AMAC and its members have been passionately involved in the effort to make healthcare in America as transparent as possible. As an organization and like you, we believe that freemarket competition will drive down costs and give healthcare consumers many more choices. It has worked to ensure the development needed supplies and equipment for the current pandemic – and will work for future ones.
Given the national rapid mobilization that has had to occur to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, S 4158 is very appropriate and important legislation towards ensuring continued preparedness for not only this virus-based pandemic, but future ones, as well. Certainly, requiring the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to address this need and provide
a public report to the Congress on the security and resilience of the supply chain for personal protective equipment (PPE) during is needed to assure the American people, and indeed seniors that our government is now on top of this.
We also agree that appropriate legislation might be needed, as a result of the current experience, to secure the supply chain of PPE, including to (i) improve resiliency in the supply chain of PPE; (ii) increase domestic production of PPE; and (iii) reduce the reliance of the United States on foreign producers of PPE.
I am pleased to offer our organization’s full support for enactment of S.4158, the “PPE Supply Chain Transparency Act of 2020.”
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President,
