This legislation grants the ability to apply an affirmative defense when one is charged with any of sixteen named accusations including treason and murder in the case of self-defense or defense of another person when fear of non-lethal, or lethal consequences are present.

The Honorable Markwayne Mullin
Senator from Oklahoma
330 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Mullin,

On behalf of the over 2.1 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 33,700 residing in the great state of Oklahoma, I write to offer our support for S. 1445, the “Stand Your Ground Act.”

There is no deliberation of the Supreme Court, the Congress of any nation, united or otherwise, nor action of an executive hand that can diminish the human rights granted by God upon his people. At the core of this legislation is the protection of life, and by such, our liberties. At a minimum, the natural rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness exist as documented in the Declaration of Independence and are therefore recognized under the ninth amendment, under which rights not listed in the Constitution shall not be disparaged but retained by the People. The right to life is well established and therefore it is not only necessary, but proper that Congress recognizes the right to life, and the right to defend it. Indeed, James Wilson, a framer of our Constitution and an original Supreme Court Justice noted a lecture on law:

“… it is the great natural law of self-preservation, which, as we have seen, cannot be repealed, or superseded, or suspended by any human institution… ” and, “Homicide is enjoined when it is necessary for the defense of one’s person or house.” because “Every man’s house is his castle … and if anyone be robbed in it, it shall be esteemed his own default and negligence.”

This legislation grants the ability to apply an affirmative defense when one is charged with any of sixteen named accusations including treason and murder in the case of self defense or defense of another person when fear of non-lethal, or lethal consequences are present. It is of vital importance to the stability of our nation that we do everything we can to protect and defend life, and this bill is a wholesome answer that is aligned with conservative values, Constitutional principles, and good historical jurisprudence.

Thank you, Senator Mullin. Your leadership here will go a long way to ensure every American can defend their lives, families, and property in our great nation. AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for your efforts.

Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President
