These bills provide actionable solutions to guide veterans as they leave the structure and stability of military culture. They will also ensure that outreach efforts are followed-up with care to improve the lives of our brave volunteers who have completed their honorable service to our nation.

Dear Representative Levin and Senator Baldwin,

On behalf of the more than 2.2 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens – AMAC, including more than 4,300 residing in CA-49 and 49,800 residing in Wisconsin, we were pleased to see that H.R. 4601, the “Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act” passed in the House of Representatives. We are supportive of this bill and its Senate companion, S. 2405.

The struggle of transition from military to civilian culture is well documented. A common thread for servicemembers when leaving the military is the experience of disconnecting with the structure and stability that military culture provides. Often a profound sense of loneliness, disenfranchisement, uncertainty about the future, and bewilderment about managing these transition challenges can be overwhelming. Many feel abandoned and, although our veterans are not helpless, they may not know how or where to turn for help.

Your bills acknowledge this challenge head on, and they provide real, actionable solutions to connect with veterans who feel otherwise lost, especially ones in underserved communities. Not only will this bill, should it become law, “improve outreach and assistance” to veterans and their families, it will ensure that the outreach effort is followed-up with care to improve the lives of our brave volunteers who have completed their honorable service to our nation. It is notable that these bills include a measure of accountability assigned to the administrators charged with reaching out to our veterans, and that the authorized expenses are specific, such that the American taxpayer investment really does go where it is intended.

AMAC thanks you, Representative Levin, and Senator Baldwin, for your demonstrable care for America’s veterans by advancing the “Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act”. We are pleased to offer our organization’s full support for this legislation.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom
President

D.” A plan for how the grant will be used to meet the unique needs of American Indian or Alaska Native veterans, elderly veterans, women veterans, and veterans from other underserved communities.”
The wording of these bills always seems to be purposely confusing as to exactly who will benefit from these services. This group (of which I am a member) is certainly entitled to all the assistance that can be provided to them as well as are all veterans who have served our country. When discussing these bills in general, I would appreciate a little more transparency.
