The Honorable Mike Braun
Senator from Indiana
374 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Cc: Senators Joni Ernst (IA), Mike Enzi (WY), Chuck Grassley (IA), John Kennedy (LA), Kelly Loeffler (GA)

Dear Senator Braun,

On behalf of the 2.18 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 51,000 residing in the state of Indiana, I write to offer our support for S. 4106, the Healthcare PRICE Transparency Act.

AMAC and its members have been passionately involved in the effort to make healthcare in America as transparent as possible. As an organization, we believe that free-market competition will drive down costs and give healthcare consumers many more choices, which is something that pricing transparency accomplishes.

S. 4106 codifies two healthcare price transparency rules requiring hospitals and insurers to disclose their discounted cash rates and negotiated rates to consumers before they receive medical care. These changes are fully consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order for Improving Price and Quality Transparency in American Healthcare.

Your bill will provide patients with clear, accessible information about medical services charges that will make it easier for consumers to shop and compare prices across hospitals. It will also make public all hospital standard charges, including the amount a hospital is willing to accept in cash, for all items and services on the internet in an easily readable format.

S. 4106 also requires insurers to provide access to cost-sharing information, including an estimate of a patient’s costsharing liability, for all covered healthcare services. This information will be available online or in paper form so patients can shop specific healthcare providers prior to receiving care.

Thank you, Senator Braun, and your Senate cosponsors, for introducing legislation that greatly empowers patients and gives them more control over their own healthcare while reducing their costs. AMAC recognizes this game-changing legislation as making American healthcare significantly more consumer-friendly and is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for S. 4106, the Healthcare PRICE Transparency Act.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom
President,
AMAC Action

Of course this is the way health care should work. Unfortunately, the bottom feeders in Congress get too much money from the medical lobbies so don’t expect to see this any time soon.
