AMAC members have long demanded better security at our nation’s southern border. H.R. 5828 provides the necessary funding to strengthen Customs and Border Protection resources to fight cross-border tunnel trafficking.

The Honorable Debbie Lesko
8th Congressional District of Arizona

Cc: Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small
Dear Congresswoman Lesko,
On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including nearly 10,000 residing in AZ-08, I write to offer our support for H.R. 5828, the DHS Illicit Cross-Border Tunnel Defense Act.
One of the top concerns for AMAC’s membership is the United States’ broken border policy. We have frequently heard from our members residing in southern border states of dangerous drug cartels and other nefarious people exploiting weak links in our defense, including the use of a system of tunnels, to gain illegal entry into the United States.
Earlier this year, a lengthy tunnel was discovered to have a rail cart system, ventilation, high voltage electrical cables and an elevator underneath our international border with Mexico. H.R. 5828 provides the necessary funding to direct Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to remediate these illicit, cross-border tunnels when they are discovered and also create a strategic plan to improve and expand upon tunnel interdiction operations at our nation’s southern border.
H.R. 5828 authorizes one million dollars for fiscal years 2021 and 2022 expressly to remediate unlawful cross-border tunnels and directs the CBP Commissioner to develop a strategic plan that includes risk-based criteria for tunnel operations; innovative technologies to limit the impact illegal crossings have on local communities; the sharing of tunnel-related information; and a resource assessment of training and personnel needed to execute the strategic plan. The bill also requires CBP to report to Congress upon implementation of the strategic plan.
Thank you, Congresswoman Lesko, and your bipartisan cosponsor, Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small, for working to combat cross-border tunnel trafficking by strengthening CBP resources. As an organization that actively advocates for stronger security at our southern border, AMAC appreciates your efforts and is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for H.R. 5828, the DHS Illicit Cross-Border Tunnel Defense Act.
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President, AMAC Action
Perhaps the reason Looney Democrats want to defund and do away with the Police is since they don’t believe in Law and Order anyways since they have always kept the Police from arresting illegals and turning them over to ICE for deportation. Which is partly why I have lost respect for the Police. These are the people paid to protect us and yet they don’t arrest illegals and now we see them standing aside as 100’s of businesses get looted and burned while they ignore their oath to protect us! They should have told these Communist Mayors and Governors to go to Hell BECAUSE it was their oath to protect the American people! … Shame on them all!
