Suicide among America’s veterans is a tragedy. Senator Cassidy’s bill would provide the necessary tools to provide our nation’s service members at risk of suicide more support at a time when they need it most.

Dear Senator Cassidy,
On behalf of the 2.2 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 29,498 residing in the state of Louisiana, I write to offer our support for S. 3195, the Promoting Coordination for Veteran Suicide Prevention Act of 2020.
Many AMAC members have selflessly served in America’s armed forces. They relate to us how their service on behalf of our nation represents a significant source of pride for themselves and their families. AMAC is on record as being passionate advocates for the mental health care America’s service members receive when they return home from their duties.
S. 3195 directs both the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) to conduct a five-year review of veteran suicides within the first year after a veteran leaves military, to better identify risk factors and improve their respective suicide prevention efforts. Your bill would give both DoD and the VA the critical tools they need to conduct a complete analysis of why veteran suicide continues to occur following military service, and provide our nation’s service members at risk of suicide more support at a time when they need it most.
Thank you, Senator Cassidy, for sponsoring bipartisan legislation that prioritizes essential mental health care services veterans need as they make the transition back to civilian life and works to deliver them in a more efficient manner. I recommend any veteran to reach out to they’re local Vet Center. It is a life saver for me and they call to check in on me to see how I’m doing. All the counselors are veteran’s, which made it easier for me to open up and express my emotions, because I could relate to them. I am in a better place mentally because of them, they brought me in from the dark and kept me from pulling the trigger.
